I'm curious about HP fanfic- can folks use the characters and settings that JKR created to capture my imagination the way she does? Can I?
I've been working on my first piece of fic- ever- so I guess I'll find out the answer to that last question soon. I do some editing for a living, so the challenge will be keeping the same high standards in canon (not to mention grammar... spelling... and that whole "having to discard something because it doesn't fit the story/ring true for the character/etc.).

Summary: It is just after Dumbledore's funeral. Harry has parted ways with Ginny, Hermione and Ron seem to have finally gotten together and everyone is getting ready to leave Hogwarts for possibly the last time.
