I'm Janice McCready, I live in the North of England with my lovely family; one husband and two delightful (most of the time) kids.I'm a buyer for a UK retailer, but spend my spare time reading and writing. And then any other spare time I spend online! I'm a moderator here at MNFF and have been known to beta read occasionally!.
I have one novel-length fic up (The Daughter of Light) and am currently working on its sequel, The Severed Souls. It wasn't supposed to be about my OC and Snape, but they ended up taking over! I've also got a few one-shots up and copious amounts of poetry.
Summary: Only one at the moment, but I will add more.
Summary: A short poem set at the time of Dumbledore's funeral.
Written for the poetical devices assignment over on the beta boards.
Summary: Salazar Slytherin is old and weary, but still working his own brand of magic. He finds himself in a tavern in the northern town of Alnwick, reflecting on what was, and on what could have been.
Summary: A short poem about the connection between Voldermort and Nagini. There's a light rhyme scheme, but I wasn't being too constrained by metre. ;-)
Summary: A short one-shot set just before the Yule Ball in GoF. Severus Snape has to get out his dress robes for the event, and in that drawer is a small piece of his past.
Originally written as a drabble over on the Beta Help forums and expanded for submission.
Summary: This was written as an assignment for the Beta Forum's spring term. It is based on the Irish myth Dierdre of the Sorrows but with Rowena Ravenclaw the one being prophesied about. It is retold in the mythic style, without great detail but as a plot driven piece of writing.
Summary: Another birthday, another present from his mother, and another year gone. Severus Snape would like birthdays to be cancelled, or at least put into a large void that was a million miles away from him.
This is AU and based on the characters that I created for Snape in Daughter of Light. That fiction was written before HBP so I had to create Snape's family. Unsurprisingly, Jo had different ideas to me. ;-)
Summary: This is set in the Founders Era and follows Rowena Ravenclaw as she is shown her destiny by several strange visitors to her village. She discovers her magical ancestry and meets her fellow Founders. This includes much mention of Irish Mythology and the Sidhe. There is a little Yule magic and hints at romance.
Written for Celestial Melody for Ravenclaw House's Secret Santa exchange. Her wonderful prompt asked for a Founder, fairies and imagery.
Summary: Remus has fallen, and he finds Tonks sinking in her misery on their first Christmas parted by death. His words bring happiness back to her.
Summary: I wanted to write a cheerful Christmas poem... and then Myrtle took over!
Summary: Remus reflects on Sirius' Death.
Summary: When did it go wrong for Tom Riddle?
Thanks to the Cranberries for the title.
Summary: Maeve O'Malley realises what she has lost. Connects to the Daughter of Light series.
Summary: Ginny reflects on Harry
Summary: An Irish witch languishes in the darkness of her family home, confined by her father and circumstances. What will it take to bring her out of this exile? The chance to return to Hogwarts? The opportunity to participate in the fight against Voldemort and his Death Eaters? Or will it be Severus Snape, a man she did not expect to see again in her lifetime?
This is canon compliant to OoTP but written pre-HBP.
Reviews and constructive criticism are most welcome, and thanks go to Ashwinder who kindly beta read the chapters for me. :-)
Summary: A poem ispired by the poetry of the First World War, but with a magical twist.
Summary: A short poem about the Grey Lady of Ravenclaw.
Summary: Severus Snape is a young Slytherin with a lot of homework and expectations. He has no idea that his world is about to be changed irrevocably. This is a Maeve/Severus short fic that details their time at Hogwarts.
Summary: In Borgin and Burkes, there sits a Cabinet with a history. A young, wealthy wizard wants someone he cannot have, and is prepared to go to any lengths to have her. But at what cost to her? This is a challenge entry for the one-shot challenge:Borgin and Burkes. Written by Magical Maeve of Ravenclaw.
Summary: Severus Snape finds himself a resident of Azkaban for his deeds and misdeeds during Voldemort's reign. A broken man, he is struggling merely to stay alive when one of the guards takes an interest in him. This is an interest that could get her into serious trouble as she tries to save the life of a man who may not want to be saved.
And I must credit the wonderful Poultrygeist for the title and Anne for her sterling beta work! Thank 'ee. :-)
