Summary: Three years post-Hogwarts. The final battle has started on the night of Harry's twenty-first birthday and he and Voldemort finally face off -- but Voldemort still has to play his last card to get rid of Harry -- by sending him and three of his 'friends' into the past exactly twenty-one years. The four of them now have to struggle to be accepted, keep their identities from certain persons and find a way home.
This story will contain some romance -- if you don't accept certain couples or just desperately want to know who's going to pair up, just e-mail me, and I'll tell you.
Great story you've got here! I know I've really enjoyed reading it over the past 2 or 3 days.
You've done great characterizations, first of all. I can easily imagine the kids in canon growing up to become the young adults you've painted here.
I also enjoy reading your Dumbledore, and I'm glad that your fic isn't riddled with distrust for him. Granted, they're being careful with how they handle him (and everyone else), but for the most part it's good to see them trusting each other. I think I agree with Harry about the idea of not changing anything though... Bah. ;)
You've also handled the time travel aspect very well. They're keeping secrets, but the secret keeping isn't the primary plot. That always gets old.
Also, it's a bit hard to imagine that Harry isn't taking the fight more to Voldemort. You've explained that though, by having him realize the dangers of changing the time-line. Kudos.
Kind of hard to see that Ron and Hermione are playing Quidditch and Teaching in their "real" time instead of putting all their energies into the war effort. I wouldn't have thought Harry would join the Aurors so soon either, but it does make some sense. Still, these things aren't vital to the story, so they work out just fine.
Kudos for a great story, and I know I'm not the only one waiting anxiously for an update, so please keep up the awesome work!
Summary: Harry Potter and Tom Riddle are strangely alike. And yet their choices are so different - what made the difference? A story that explores the possibility of Tom Riddle's soul within Harry and a journey behind the Veil to find Sirius. AU as of HPB, contains no spoilers.
Main Characters: HP, TR, AD, Sirius, Ollivander, Alphard Black, Aberforth Dumbledore, Voldemort.
First of all, I want to say that I've only just discovered your story tonite, and that it is BRILLIANT.
Albus is my favorite Harry Potter character, and having him in a fic is always a plus for me. I'm also very fond of including Aberforth and Ollivander, though the personalities they have in fics varies widely due to the little canon we have about them. You write them wonderfully.
I'm also very impressed by your job idea for Hermione... I think that is the BEST idea I've read in fanfic for Hermione's job. It's important, hard to do, requires a good bit of intuition and intelligence, and isn't very common. It fits her perfectly I think, and even if it doesn't pan out in your story, I wanted to thank you for giving me the idea to think about.
Great story, and thanks much for writing. I look forward to reading the rest. Kudos.
“Dumbledore?” Alphard looked up and down the corridor. Their Transfigurations professor often appeared in the most unexpected of places.
Haha, I love that line. *smiles happily at above quoted line*
I also really liked the last paragraph here, where Alphard finally got a real taste of just who "Lord Voldemort" really was, and what that might mean.
Kudos! *continues reading*
I love the way your write Aberforth. Since all we really have to go on from canon is that Aberforth is the bartender at the Hog's Head, a member of the Order, and generally considered to bit a off his rocker... well, it just means that anything else goes.
I like your version. He's a good guy, but he's also dangerous and more than a bit scary.
Brilliant story. Very poignant ending. I left a few reviews on previous chapters, and I'm not sure what else to say.
The ending was certainly original, and it seemed to fit well with your story. I really enjoyed it. I'd have liked to have got into Aberforth's and Ollivander's heads a bit more, but no big deal there.
I really loved your flashback scenes with Albus, where he saw Grindelwald creating the original dementors. The scene with his friend's heart and the feelings that accompanied it were quite powerful. One of the more powerful scenes I've read in Fanfic.
Kudos for a really great story. Thanks for writing.
Summary: Sequel to A Stolen Past. Please read that story first, as this one really won’t make sense if you don’t.
Harry Potter has rejoined the Wizarding world after a year-long absence, but still has no memory of his time at Hogwarts. Will he ever get his memory back? Will he be able to pass his classes without it? And most importantly, will he ever be able to defeat Lord Voldemort? Read on as the last of the mysteries introduced in A Stolen Past are finally revealed.
This is a story of friendship and mystery, with a healthy dose of H/G thrown in for good measure.
I would have reviewed the prequel as well, and a few specific chapters of this one, but it took me a while to figure out how to leave a Review. Silly me, didn't realize I had to make an account first.
Anyway, I really enjoyed reading your story. Tyler is a great original character, and you've used him perfectly. One problem most authors run into with OCs is that they try to use them to be everything, all the time. You didn't get lost in that with Tyler, you made a niche for him and he fit right in.
I also enjoyed reading your Dumbledore. You wrote him very well, and I think he's often one of the most difficult characters for people to write. I do wish we had seen his reaction to Harry, Remus, and Sirius being alive there at the very end, but I guess it was more important to your story to show the others instead. I'm just biased because Albus is by far my favorite character. =)
You also did a fine job with the others. Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna, Neville, and Hagrid. Some things, like Harry suddenly being in Ginny's classes, seemed a bit weird, but since you did not dwell on it and had a decent explanation, that worked out too. Over explaining things like that rarely comes off well, so Kudos once again.
I really liked how Neville just went to the Ministry with everyone. I loved how you had Hagrid perform the memory reversal. I enjoyed how well you handled Ron, Hermione, and Dumbledore once they realized Harry had lost his memory.
You tied up all of the loose ends quite well, so there aren't any plot lines left lying around, but it does seem a bit like you didn't revisit some things. What is Snape like now that Voldemort is dead? Will the war between him and Harry lighten up? What was Albus' reaction to seeing Harry alive? Will Harry ever run into Mrs. Davies from St. Brutus's again? What will become of Tyler?
Granted, there wasn't a REASON to revisit any of those things, since they aren't crucial to the story. They're just little things I kept wondering about in the back of my head.
KUDOS for two brilliant stories. You write very well, and this fic is certainly in the top tier as far as quality goes.
Thanks for writing.
Author's Response: Thank you very much for the kind and well thought-out review. I really appreciate it. This story was a lot of fun to write, and I\'m glad it\'s proven to be fun for you to read as well.
It\'s possible that I might revisit one or more of those little plot ideas in one or more one-shots at some point, but for the moment I\'m working on three chaptered stories, all of which I\'m very excited about. Once again, thank you very much for reviewing.
Sometimes, there is little else to hold onto except dreams and moments.
Because sometimes, when all else is lost, they are all we have left.
I owe infinite thanks to Alex/welshdevondragon, who took the time to beta and primp this story and is also just a wonderful person.
Winner of the 2012 Quicksilver Quill Award - Best General Story, along with Julia/theopaleye's fabulous fic Maps
Neat story! Very out there, and it's nice to read something a little different.
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad to know that taking a risk here paid off :). Thank you again, so much, for this review. xx Ariana
