Seventh grader Alexandra Quick returns to Charmbridge Academy. This year she faces bullies from another wizarding school, a secret Dark Arts club, and the machinations of her father, but her greatest trial yet awaits her in the dangerous Lands Below.
This is the second book in the Alexandra Quick series.
I have a suspicion that Alex hearing Hagar flapping around her window was not totally accidental. In fact I could almost vow 'Daddy' knew all along how convicing Alex could be with Max.
That Machiavelian man was actually trying to coerce Max into letting Alex know... and then, Ooopsy! Look, she found out herself and even did HIS dirty job herself!!
Plus, there's the 'he did not look quite as surprized as she expected him to be'... Don't like it one bit.
Anyway, mistrut towards Abe Thorn included, loved the chap!!
I like this subtle change in Alex, her reasoning and her 'dark side' as well. She might make a fine lawyer... those were quite on the spot arguments!!
As usual, can't wait to read more!! Kuddos!!!
Masterpiece as usual...
Bewi... eerie creature! Lagaru's kind-of-cuteness was a bad omen!
And Alex saved the freaking day! Without her Max would have been rabbit food!!! Yikes!!
And now we meet the generous ones and they look suspiciously like elves. I hope they are as friendly as they seem, but I guess there'd be no point to the story if hey were, right?
Well, at least I supose loosing the tent is fixed for the time being at leas!
I'm thrilled Charlie is back!!
I only wonder what's going on back at Charmbridge now they're missing. And with Manuelito and Darla Damnborn, I mean Dearborn... did they tell on our heroes? Or did the elf tell the Dean?
Have they been reported missing?
Geesh! A lot of stuff is on hiatus and there is also an awful lot of stuff going on!!! I'm going nuts!!
Gapping like a little godfish out of water here. Looking dumbr here, actually.
Max King's Alex's big bro??
I'm sooo speechless I can't even muster the strenght to curse the MMS properly!! And they deserve it!
That bloke's mission better be good, not telling on someone who casted Unforgivables on a person!!!!
BTW, still don't like King at all! He allowed that creep to cast Cruciatus on Alex THREE times!!! I think that was a bit excessive, wasn't it?
As a matter of fact, i think, knowing he's her brother makes me even more angry for the way he acted!! He soo needs a hell of an excuse!!
Standing ovation to this chap! Even thought it's Alex's nightmare night... It's a wonder-chapter!! Absolutely unexpected twists! I was half expecting him to try to kiss Alex, rather than confess brotherhood!!!
"Don't you have any homework?"
That phrase alone just proves he's a geniune big Bro. Most of his jerkish attitude in the JROC sort of contributes to that as well. Personal experience, big brothers are more protective, but also have a tendency to take over parental roles when those are vacant... Such as 'bullying' and pushing younger siblings, demanding more of them.
You've created a superb character in Maximilian King. His story, as well as the whole battalion of half-sis Alex now has was higly interesting. And we are also suddently introduced to his fears, weaknesses and learning of things that bugg him as well... (like the talk around his parent's wedding) Kudos!
BTW, was Abe trying to father a Quidditch team or something? My compliments if he did! He seems to have archieved his purposes.
I enjoyed particularly the walk'n'talk of the sibblings in this chap! Both for all we learn of Max, and for all the new information on Abe Thron. And first hand, too! *smiles*
To be completely honest when you first introduced the half-brother twist a skeptical vein stroke me. I was afraid the Alex/Max realtionship might come out far fetched, too cliché or soap opera-ish.
I am thrilled to announce such a faithless vein is currently dead, dry, burned and burried!! You made it absolutely believable. Everything, from his explanations to Alex's unsuereness... perfect!
Kudos for incredible characterisation!
On a side note, I really, really, really what to see what on Earth is going on with that brainless punk of Darla!! I got a half mind that she might be under blackmail from the MMS. If they rat on her she'll be sooo dead, after all. Still, I think she's awful. Kidnapping her roomate, her friend's pet, knowing they'd curse her with it!
I wonder how would she react if her famniliar was to say, get lost for a day or two? *wicked smile*
Anyway, I must know what transpired between those two when Honey came back. You left us with a conversation pending!
Allrighty, I leave this neverending review here. I'll just say it once more; AWESOME CHAPTER!!
It was a nice, not to mention smart touch (to silence pestering reviewers), to mention Martin's curse breaker habilities!
Yeepee! Sequel to AQATTC is up!! And there are three chaps in already! Sooo happy to hear its finished and we just need to wait for the chaps to get posted! You're a role model writer for that only!
Let's see, I have a question reggarding this very intriguing new character that's Grimm's twin...
It's a tinny detail really, but still, you, like JKR don't seem one to put little things there without a reason. Diana Alecto Grimm. Isn't her middle name the same of one of the hateful Carrow brothers, torment of Howarts during DH? Is it just a coincidence? You just liked the name and forgot about it? (and I'm a bored little HPfan with a lot of spare time, of course)
That being said, I'd also like to point out, as Alex said, Martin's a jerk. Pobably used Darla when he was by himself and bored on the cruise and, if he really enjoyed her company, he's too much of a coward to admit it and bare his friend's (whom shall be considered jerks, too unless they demonstrate the contrary) teasing. Stupid teens and their useless, superficial, cruel and pointless peer-pressure. I'm hell-bent against it, but you portray it most skillfully.
I'm more intrigued about this Max bloke, who seemed to be in charge and puzzled about Alex.
I really liked the detail of Alex's dirty look towards David. It was funny!
Can't wait till the next chap!
Thanks for the review! You will definitely see more of the Stormcrows.
As for Diana Grimm, I can assure you, I choose names with great care. ;)
(The Carrows weren't brothers, btw -- they were brother and sister, Alecto being the sister.)
Max lead her to Abe!!!!
Alex's meeting her Dad!!!
Will she kick him in the shin!!!??? THrow a fit??? Listen politely what he has to say???
Please, update sooon!!!!!
Yickes!! It's like gift-poker isn't it? Let's see woh makes the better gift!!
I do hope the kiddoes find a way out of this!!
Anyway, be rude and be done with it Alex! Since when has that stoped her, uh?
Quimley is puzzling... He gave the Generous ones a gift? What could that be and why is he the one forced to stay if he made the gift...? Can't wait to read more!!!
“Maximilian can be a bit... overbearing, can't he?” Maximilian flushed.
Julia giggled. “And gorgons can be a bit ugly!”
I'm goning to print it, put it in a canvass and hang it up in my room!! Honest!
As it was to be expected... the feud of the oriental girls started quite stupidly. What's a chink, BTW?
It was interesting to se Alex of all people mediating between both girls!
The MMs is definitely rotten, they use their new members like little pawns to fullfil their sick whims. They're disgusting. In every possible way at hand and out of it!
Speaking of disgusting, 'cute'-face King needs a major clarification for still being in that rotten secret society!!!
Nice name for Alex's snake, Nigel! Am I too wrong to think Charlie kind of likes him? He was standing over the cage somewhat protectively and kept squaking 'Alexandra' when she entered the room...
AWESOME chap! I just can't wait to see what happens next! Does Tomo gets a Marrieta treatment? Does Alex get herself into yet more trouble? Do we get to see the Lands Below now?
"Chink" is an extremely derogatory racial epithet used to insult Chinese people. (Do not use it unless you want to start a fight and be identified as a racist.) So, Anna's anger was understandable (though obviously, she wasn't exactly innocent either).
You'll get answers to some of your questions in the next chapter, but others will have to wait a while longer. ;) Thanks for the review!
Oh oh oh!!! I see what you're doing!! You're laying it down so that the school thinks Alex and Max are an item!!!
When they're brothers!!! That's wicked!!!!! Hehehe!! Darla, clearly will be livid, since Alex is once more getting the attention she wanted!! Wicked! Awesome!
Need I say once again I love your fic!!!???? I feel it's my obligation to do so! Love it!!! :)
First of all, thanks for answering my review. I just knew you hadn't chosen the name randomly! *victory dance*
Now, Diana's middle name being Alecto, makes her all the more siniester.
And speaking of siniester, we have a Black teacher this year. Suspicious, highly suspicious. A long lost realtive of dearest Sirius, perhaps? I really want to know who he is and what's his part in the coming year!!
Now, this fiesty side of our darling bookworm is really unexpected! And, Alex ends up getting into trouble because she's trying to help! I mean, David really could have made a little effort, right?
I think Alex's right to feel a little sympathy for the japanese girl. Though, IF what Anna says is true (that Tomo started it, and even hexed her) she deserves it! I mean why do you do around calling someone names without even knowing her?? That's riddiculus!
It's funny, thought. Last year, it was Alex the one fighting her nemesis everytime she crossed paths in the hallways, now she's the one separating Anna and her arch-enemy.
As for the mystery boy.. Maximilian King! What a strong name! I fear he's going to be anything but friendly with Alex from now on, right?
As usual I'm left wanting more chaps!
This is reaaaaally juicy... Why, oh, why did you have to make a cliffie here!!!????
That's just too damn close to torture!!!
I'm agonizing to read more!
Allright! Alex's a genious for telling that jerk just a teny wensy part of what he deserved!! I understand why you kept it short, thought! You needed an entirre chapter to properly do it. It was beyond the point, really.
For a starter, he's not just toying with some non-school approved hexes. He's doing UNfreakingFORGIVABLES!! What is he mental, or just Tom Riddle's unrecognized spawn?
Wait I got it! Bella LeStrange had a non marital son and sent it to USA!!
And I bet the reason Darla ever did that idiocy was because 'John' told her to!! That's why he did not say anything to her and she skipped initiation!!
I repeat, Alex's a genious!! Standing ovation to rescuing that poor snake. I do wonder were she's going to keep it... In case it doesn't vanish later on. Don't conjured things, eventually dissapear?
It was kind of strong the way King treated her, BTW. That boy has some serious anger management issues... I really can't wait to see how his story develops. I bet he'll be happy now. But Alex once again proved she's exponentially better than him.
Thankfully, Alex can proudly announce to her friends she's done with the Most Maniac Society.
Ok, Ileave this review here... Just want to add, Lands Below rocks so far!!!
“Winged horses?” This was like Christmas and Disneyland and hexing Larry Albo, all at once!
I'm thrilled Alex's finally getting a break! It's nice to see she has some good friends and that her father is starting to peak in and out of the picture once in a while...
Hugo doesn't remember the last time Aunt Muriel came to stay, but Rose does...
Heeheheheheheh!!! This one's even better than Auntie Murriel, carrion crow!!!!
Author's Response: This poem's definitely humour versus angst, so it was more fun to write, but the other shows Rose's adult feelings towards her "Auntie", and good therapy, lol, so to me they're apples and oranges to be enjoyed for different flavours.
At age fifteen, Regulus Black became sole heir to the largest fortune in Wizarding London. At sixteen, his abnormal intelligence won him entry into the most notorious cult of Dark wizards on earth. At seventeen he made a mistake – one that he would never be able to take back – and his entire world came crashing down.
Enter London, 1979. The story of a boy who managed to defy Voldemort at the height of his regime. But what price did he have to pay?
Wow!! I must say this fic is very interesting and incredibly well written!!
I addored the conversation between Reg and Sirius at the end, with the 'translations'... Very good detail.
I liked Regulus' appreciations of his brother and his steem of his character.
Adele seems like an interesting character as well. And Reg's brilliance as an awful good explanation of why Sirius might have initally needed to be outrageous and antaginist - he was jealous of his little brother. as he grew up, he realized one too many truths about purebloods I guess!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked my portrayal of the Regulus/Sirus dynamic. :D You're right, now that I think of it, about Sirius being outrageous and anatagonistic out of jealousy. Sirius had many things to be jealous of, I'm sure: Regulus' intelligence, his easy fit into the family, etc. But I think in many ways, Regulus was jealous of Sirius too. Thanks again for the lovely review, and I really hope you keep reading. :)
This story is soo amazingly sweet... my eyes are all teary!
Poor Sirius... and Regulus... and Andromeda...
Great one shot!
Author's Response: Oh, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
It was like a wizard tale. The clever Slytherin helps a hag who later repays the debt. Except that Rose Weasley wasn't a hag, and Scorpius didn't expect to call in the favour.

Merlin's twisted knickers!!!!
Honestly, men will be men. A cheating Teddy Lupin is not something I'd be stunned. As a cheating Harry Potter. Throw hexes and jinxes at me at will, people.
There's an ol' saying around here that goes: "De los cuernos y de la muerte nadie se escapa."
Translation: from being cheated on and death there's no possible escape.
I enjoyed the perspective of Rosie totally head over heals for a decent guy, however. And, course him being too obvlivious to notice when he shattered her heart to pieces.
I like the way Rosie and Scorpious understand each other and fit like the Ying Yang. They really are perfect for each other.
I missed what was it that Lily went 'Oh Merlin' about... Still wondering.
And of course, can't wait to see what has grandad Lucius ready for poor Scorps. Kuddos for an awesome chap, as usual!!!
Author's Response: Whoa, and I thought Ben Franklin's only things certain are death and taxes line was depressing! It'll be a couple of chapters before you find out what Lily went "Oh Merlin" about...but it's good. :D
O por las barbas de Merlin!!!!!!!!!!!
This next gen fiction is absolutely totally and pòsitively awesome!!
It's very Shakespearean, in the sense their families are going to WANT to kill them. Especially Scorpious'... And Rosie's might shoot a couple of nasty hexes towards him, that's for sure...
I AM SERIOUSLY DYING TO READ RON'S REACTION!!
The wya you write descriptive... It's going to be exctasy!!
I loooooooove the way you describe Rose and Scorpious. The way you characterized them. Rosie being a mini-Herms, Scorpious this brand-new version of Malfoy, minus the pure-blood supremacist crap, but still not giving too much for rules and moral...
Phineas Filch is also a very interesting character. And I suspect he might play a relevant part in this story... Or more like hope it. I liked him nearly as much as your Rosie and Scorpious.
I do trust you update soon. Or I might be forced to track you down and chain you to your computer... Jjus kidding, of course. But I honestly fell in love with this story!!! Keep the MARVELLOUS work!!!
BTW, that opening exclamation means: By Merlin's beard!
What's the translation for Merlin's twisted knickers? :D
Thank you for the Spanish and liking the story and characterizations! Rose is less like her mother than she wants people to know. I love writing, so no need to break out the chains, although I appreciate the threat for the compliment it is! :)
Scorpious rocks my socks!! He's an ace!! Honest!! And Lucy-Voldy-ass-kisser... That slimy... I loved the way you explained so meaningful details with such simple words and so clearly. Like Draco's rolled up sleeves and stuff like that. I only regret I did not get to see some Narcissa in this chapter. If she was a little bit more like say, Molly, she'd be spanking his white derriere raw until he begged to go on a muggleborn baby kissing spree!! That biased brat! One would think after certain amount of failures a supremacist would get destiny's hint, wouldn't he?
Ok, now, rant over. Where was I? Oh, right, Scorpious ROCKS!!! Totally addore him!! I wonder if Rose will ever find out about what happened in that house... all the crimes and stuff, thought I suppose there has to be some Rita Skeeter-ish torture history of the Second War, or something like that. Rose might have read it...
Anyway, I bloody well am teary eyed this story is about to end!! I enjoyed it soo much! I really wish there was much much more where it came from!!
IDNK, just imagine a love story between Hugo and Lavender's (and, maybe the her Rumanian date from the Yule Ball?) daughter... That would be a hillarious comedy fic, at the very least!! *giggles*
Anyway, it wa a marvellous ride, an addictive read and you're a terrific author. I do hope you keep writing once its over!!
I'm the one who should say Aw! I'm so happy you adore Scorpius. Rose won't find out everything--some things parents don't tell children--but she will give her mum a big hug when they go back to Diagon Alley!
You'd think supremacists would change, but they don't always. I'm sure there were a lot of Germans after the war who thought Hitler was a monster, but the Aryan race was still superior.
Hugo and the Hufflepuff would be a fun title, wouldn't it? ;)
