Author's Response: Well, yes, I figured you did, I'm not completely closed minded. There are a couple reasons I used this running gag.
1. The story is set in 1997, the fact that its seven years in the past made me think that this might work.
2. It was the most obvious source of comedy, and its one of the running themes of the story (American relating to another culture and visa versa)
Author's Response: Actually, I thought of another reason. Since most of the characters are wizards, they wouldn't have T.V. Granted, I didn't think of that before, but your review spurred me on to try and think of a plausible reason for it.
