Torn by Beth Brown

Summary: “You have no right Hermione,” he said in a broken whisper. “No right at all.” he repeated. “I know,” she said. “I’m sorry.” Harry shook his head. “No.” He ignored the silent question in her eyes. “I am.” And he kissed her. I'm not normally a Harry and Hermione shipper, but I love the way you've written this story between them (this chapter was particularly bittersweet), not to mention the idea of Voldemort peaking into Hermione's mind and controlling it. I've put it on my favourites list. Update as soon as you can, please!

I am really enjoying this story. I like your character interaction and the fact that Miranda is such a...Slytherin adds extra spice to the story.
As for the spelling that someone else mentioned, it's perfectly British so don't correct it, please!
Good job and I'm looking forward to reading more of this when you get the time to write it.

This story blew me away from the outset. Good Fan Fiction where Voldemort is the winner is rare, but you've written this wonderfully and, honestly, I think if you ended it in any other way, you would not have been faithful to your story. Yes, it was sad. Yes, it was dark, but that is life sometimes and there isn't always a happy ending. You captured that.
Well done. You truly have an amazing gift. - GB.

A Letter for My Love by Beth Brown

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • 84 Reviews
Summary: Harry is getting married, and it's to the woman he loves. Isn't it? Then why does he still look at Hermione and never want to turn away? Why does her presence leave him breathless and a mere touch send shivers of desire through him, leaving him wanting more? Surely this is just cold feet. Yet a single letter changes everything and Harry comes to discover that what his heart truly desires has been standing before his eyes all this time.

I started to read this story after reading what you've written on 'Torn' and I am really glad I did. It was beautiful in its digity and I'll certainly go back and read it again. You should be proud of what you've written. Gwen and Harry's break-up, in particular, stands out. Gwen was the epitome of gracousness in this scene and Harry, I think, knows how lucky he was to have been blessed with her in his life. By breaking up with each other, they showed, if not to each other then to us as readers, that they really did love each other but not in the way that needed to. A truly great story and I'm looking forward to updates on 'Torn'.

Author's Response: Best. Review. Ever. Seriously, I've never been so touched by a review in my life. I'm glad you like my work, and I'm surprised that this little story managed to affect you in such a way. I put a lot of effor to make it the way it is, so I'm glad that you're giving me an indication of how I'm doing. As for 'Torn', again I thank you. I have that story posted on portkey.org under the same name and chapter 10 is up there. So if you can't wait, go ahead and read that. Thanks again.

I am currently sitting at work, trying very hard to stop bluthering like an idiot before someone walks into my office and catches me out, not only crying, but reading fanfiction while I'm at work! Sorry, I digress. You've managed to capture both hope and despair in this fic: despair in losing Harry and the gaping hole he left in their lives and yet hope for the future full of continued happiness, even if Harry wouldn't be there to share it. Great work, and now I'm off to read more of your stuff...furtively of course...

Right, so you've covered brain tumours, illigitimate teen pregnancy, incest, infidelity and touched on homosexuality. All you need now is for Dumbledore to have a relationship with one of his students (eww, by the way), a murder, a wedding that gets stopped halfway through by the bride's secret lover, a 'defection' to the other side (because all good soaps have a good and a bad side) and then a birth and you're all set! Repeat ad nauseum and you have a soap that will last for maybe 20 years!
I loved it, by the way. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, I've been trying to get a second chapter on but they didn't like my first attempt. Be hoping for me that they like my second:)

I would like to echo the other reviews and say how much I like your portayal of Draco. I look forward to reading more, which I am about to do...on to chapter 2! I have a suspicion as to who the 'male protector' is, but I'll hold judgement until I read some more.

Ok, you had me going for someone completely different for Calley's father. Was I duped, or was I right and you're just doing what all good writers should and put lovely twists and turns into your story to cover the real plot? This story is really rather dark, but you've done it well and it all seems to fit. I did have a question about Harry's response to Calley and Draco being siblings... It seemed a bit, well, weak and inappropriate for a father figure when hearing that his former charge may be having relations with her brother. I'm sure you had your reasons and no doubt will enlighten me in a later chapter. Ok, on to the next chapter!

H'RAY! I can't wait to read the next chapter. I like your style and the way you've written Draco. (I'm a bit of a draco fan, myself) and look forward to reading more of your work.

One shot fanfiction

is the traditional
Draco/Hermione romance
story. All the basics (Head Boy
and Girl, shared common rooms, suddenly
and quite unexpectedly they're highly attracted to
each other etc. etc.), but how likely is this stuff anyway?
Realistic? Each their own mind. But read the fic
and tell me if you too want to see
Draco/Hermione fanfics with
more to the plot than
the basics.

Everyone is slightly - well, maybe very - OOC in this fic. You have been warned ;)

1st story in a series of Hermione/Draco one-shots (Check out my author page for more information)

This is going into my favourites list. You've given me a great start to my work day!

Author's Response: I'm pleased to hear that this story lingers like that ;) Thank you so much for the great review!

Broken by Huskers

Rated:247 Reviews
Summary: Nine years has passed since Harry defeated Voldemort. Nine years that he spent in a coma. He wakes, to find that life has passed him by. How do you go on, and can love be found after it has been destoryed?

This story was written pre HBP and takes none of that new cannon into account. Also, it might be better defined as a series of one shots than an ongoing story.

Firstly I'd like to echo the statements on how well you kept all the players in character throughout this scene. It was very well done. Secondly, would someone please get a saucer of milk for Hermione? I can see where she's coming from, but "'I promise you, Hermione, he will not regret his decision this time.'... 'We’ll see, Ginevra,'..." Meow! That response is so much like a woman, it's scary! Yes, we women have very long memories, especially when someone hurts the people we love. I can see that you're beginning to wrap things up. Dang! I really like this story!

Author's Response: Yes, Hermione is still very angry with Ginny. What Ginny did, hurt Hermione nearly as much as it hurt Harry. You can't expect her to get over it in 15 minutes. It took Harry 4 years after Ginny showed up to forgive her. Heck, it took him two years to really even talk to her the first time.

It's about time Harry got over himself and Ginny stopped punishing herself. What did I feel from this chapter? Amusement that Seamus was willing to be mistaken because there was no telltale scar and giving Harry the permission to 'flay' his son should he cause any problems; heart-wrenching, bittersweet pain when they finally forgive each other. I love this story, and I agree with another reviewer that you have definately evolved as a writer. I'm looking forawrd to reading the remaining chapters.

Author's Response: It was about time for Harry and Ginny to move on, and Seamus isn't the only one taken in by Harry's disguise. He fooled McGonagall and Pomfrey with it too. Not to mention any other witch or wizard he has run into in the last how many years. Thanks for telling me what you think and for your encouragement.

The only reason that I am not crying openly is that I read this at work. It takes a great writer to compose a piece that invokes such strong emotions when they have never been in that situation themselves. From one who knows (and has yet to work up the courage to say goodbye), this story left me shaking. Extremely well written, you should be proud of it.

Author's Response: I cried when I read this review. Thank you so much for your beautiful words - they mean so much. I know how hard it is to let go of someone you love; like Harry, you might not be aware of it yet, but you're already courageous. You'll be in my thoughts.

A SEQUAL TO LOVE IS PAIN: "If you love something, set it free; if it comes backs it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was." (Richard Bach)

Draco’s death hit Hermione like a steam engine. Since the day she found his casket delivered to her doorstep, her life has slowly been wilting. She now lives, as Harry Potters’ wife, in a life slowly turning into death. What she doesn't know is that Draco is not dead, although close to it. He wakes up to find himself locked in a dungeon with not but his father, the Cruciatus Curse and many others to keep him company. As Draco struggles to grasp onto life, so does Hermione. Can Draco find Hermione and recreate the love they used to share? Would she even forgive him if he did? And if he somehow found a way back to Hermione’s side, would he even want to be with her after finding her with “Saint Potter?” Through these pages, love’s secrets await…

Chapter 9: Validated!

“I want nothing less then to leave you here, destined for death,” she divulged in a hush. “I wish with all of my heart you could suffer the same pain I have.” Her feet concluded their progress across the room and she simply stood there, towering over his body.

“But I know you never could.”

See A/N for challenge info in chapter 9!

I cannot believe that I am the first to review! I'm really liking the intensity with which you are writing Hermione and Draco, and I really felt like I was with Hermione in her pit of despair while lying awake in bed. Please update soon!

Author's Response: Thank you SO much for the review! You have no idea how happy you've made me! lol. Yes, Hermione and Draco do seem to be in the same situation; one almost dead menally and one almost dead physically. Quite an interesting situation. Have you read Love Is Pain? Thanks again! I like the start of this. It's very clever! There is nowhere near enough aussie fic out there. We need more. Australians are vastly unrepresented!lol
One thing I did notice about your story was the use of house colours. I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but there rules regarding heraldry, which JKR actually follows. Colour (as in black, red, blue, green, red, purple) cannot be with another colour, for example you would never see a black gryffin on a red background. Metal (yellow/gold and white/silver) would always be on a colour as in substitute the back gryffin for a white/silver one and you've complied with the rules of heraldry. It probably makes no difference to your fic, but just in case you wanted to know! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing! I didn't realise you were an Aussie until I clicked on your web page, go Aussie! Thanks for the info on the colours, I had absolutely no idea as you can tell. I'll try and change them if I can make myself. I'm a very lazy person ^_^ Anyway, thanks for reviewing!

I'm sorry to hear that you've lost the muse for this story. I like the way you've created a believable Australian magical community and I would have liked to see it take off, but if the inspiration isn't there, it just isn't there! I especially liked the idea of kookaburras instead of owls for delivering messages. Very clever!

Author's Response: Thanks, I've tried to get back into it but I just don't know where it was going, and I just can't get back into it. I'm glad you liked the Kookaburras, I thought it might be a bit stereotypical of Australians. Thanks for reviewing. ^_^
