Honoring Sacrifice by Gmariam

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Harry Potter spent seven years hating Severus Snape. The enigmatic Potions master made life at Hogwarts miserable at times, yet was always acting in accordance with a much higher purpose than Harry could have possibly imagined. This is the story of how Harry came to understand, forgive, and honor the man who died to protect him.

Wow, this is such a great story. I'm always on the lookout for good after-the-Battle tales, and this one ranks pretty highly among what I've read. I know it was published quite some time ago, but it is also listed as incomplete. I hope you finish it!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it, thank you for the compliment. If you're looking for other post-Battle fics, I'm pretty sure ToBeOrNotToBeAGryffindor has several and she's a great writer! As for this one, at the time I had planned to explore a bit more of how Harry resolved things with Snape in his mind, but quickly decided that this was more of a one-shot. I should go change that-sorry! But thanks again for the review!! ~Gina :)

Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle by Inverarity

Rated: 1st-2nd Years • Past Featured Story

Winner of the 2008 Quick Silver Quills Award for Best General Story.

The first book in the Alexandra Quick series.

The war against Voldemort never reached America, but all is not well there. When 11-year-old Alexandra Quick learns she is a witch, she is plunged into a world of prejudices, intrigue, and danger. Who wants Alexandra dead, and why?

This story is canon-compliant with the Harry Potter universe, but the characters and settings are all original. I've put a lot of work into envisioning a world as detailed as the original series; I hope you enjoy it.

Remarkable! I really wasn't sure I would like this when I started, but a couple a chapters in and I was completely hooked. You've created a world that I would say is every bit as detailed and fantastic as JKR's, and I'm eagerly looking forward to reading the rest of the Quick stories! Bravo!

Chocolate Frog by L A Moody

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: Amid the desolation of Diagon Alley, a tiny ray of hope lay buried. Nothing more than a tidbit amid the sweeping despair of Deathly Hallows, yet it would not let go of my imagination. Had I found the casually inserted pivotal clue that would rise like Nicolas Flamel from the pages of the first book? Or had I stumbled upon another Mark Evans: nothing but filler detail in the opening pages of The Order of the Phoenix, JKR having overlooked that he bore the same last name as Harry’s mother?

So I waited for my little gem to bear fruit, to become one of those climactic surprises we should have seen coming, but somehow overlooked. Only it never came to pass. The death count mounted to a staggering high, the epic moments came and went, Snape’s back story was finally revealed, and still nothing.

So it has lain, bereft and unwanted, among the detritus of a Diagon Alley the Death Eaters had turned into a bully’s playground. But in the intervening years, this rough diamond has become the inspiration for this story, spreading its tentacles into new and intriguing territories.

Although Harry mentions Chocolate Frog as the title of Mad-Eye Moody’s autobiography at the end of my previous tale, The Dark Phoenix, this version of the story goes beyond that. Nonetheless, the sections representing Moody’s memoirs are clearly labeled.

This story begins with events recounted in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and continues beyond the end of the series. I have attempted to conform to canon as much as possible, elaborating only where the circumstances are vague or passed over. It is an interpretation of the events that happened behind the scenes, so to speak.

I just started reading this story, which I am enjoying greatly, and I wanted to say how beautiful I think this chapter is. Your description of at least the first stage of the afterlife based on what JKR imagined was really captivating for me, and I'm eager to read the rest of this story. Thanks!

Author's Response: Thanks for the compliments. I'm so pleased you discovered this story. I have to admit that one of the motivating factors is that I'm not shackled to our narrow view of reality. With that I could integrate many favorite characters who had been "written out" of canon. Even without having to resort to endless flashbacks, although I confess I use quire a few of those as it is. (Will someone please contact Mr. Rickman's agent?)

Just read through this story again while waiting for your next chapter - it's brilliant! I'm a recent discoverer of your work, but I'm a huge fan, and I can't wait for the continuation of this and your other stories.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review and the kind words. This is certainly my most popular story, at least in terms of reviews. You'll be pleased to know that I submitted the next chapter yesterday, so you should not have long to wait. -N-

Wonderful, as usual! It's so vastly entertaining to read your depictions of Muggles and wizards interacting, and the inevitable chaos that ensues!

Author's Response: Thank you. This particular interaction took a lot of getting right, hence the delay in updating. There is more chaos to come. -N-

Another great chapter! I really love the ending, it's not hard imagining George being really good with kids. I have to agree with a lot of the reviewers before me that this story is all the more fascinating for being told (mainly) from a Muggle's perspective. It's so ingenious! Keep up the great work!

Author's Response: Thank you.
The ending was improved by my long-term first beta Amelie. The jokes are mine, but she added the serious stuff. Writing from Jacqui's perspective is slow work. As she's my narrator, and she makes Harry and Ginny the focus of her reporting, it's essential that she is "real". I hope she is.

Another great chapter! I'm a big fan of the interludes, they're such a refreshing return to the wizarding world, and make really interesting counterpoints against the experiences the Charltons are having alongside the Potter/Weasley clan. I never really expected this to turn into a full blown mystery, but I'm really hooked! Can't wait for more

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.
When I plabbed this, the werewolf killings were supposed to take over. Instead, Jacqui took over. I can't, however, allow Jacqui to learn what's really going on, there will be at least two, and probably three more interludes before I finish this story.

Uh-oh! Looks like Ginny slipped up there. Can't wait to see what Jacqui makes getting from England to Sweden in an hour!

What a surprise to see this story updated! It's one of my favorites, and as usual you didn't disappoint!

Author's Response: It surprised me, too. After months of lying unfinished, I took a plook at it, and instead of tinkering at it and giving up (again) I finished it. -N-

I think my favorite writing of yours is when you're writing Harry/Ginny - you capture them so incredibly well, particularly their dry sense of humor (especially Harry's). It was one of my favorite things about the books, and is one of the many reasons why I love your fics!

Author's Response: Thank you
I try to keep Harry true to himself. He’s been through a lot, but he’s remarkably resilient and his humour helps to carry him through, and not simply in the face of adversity.

Fantastic, as usual! Tavistock is so slimy, and he seems to raise an unusual amount of suspicion by not wanting the girls to say anything at all - could he possibly have something to do with the Hellion's behavior? I suppose we'll have to wait and see! I'm glad that there doesn't seem to be a problem between Harry and Ginny!

Author's Response: Thanks.
Tavistock certainly has an agenda, he is employed by the Harpies. Is he eacting in the players best interest? Is he even acting in the club's best interest? Time will tell. There is no major problem between Harry and Ginny.

Wow, great chapter! This is the kind of suspenseful, exciting, and well-written action I've come to expect from you, Northumbrian. It's really interesting to see all the details of your epic tale slowly come together, and to learn where some of your original characters come from. Can't wait for more!

Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words. :-D
The two timelines are (as you've probably noticed) rapidly coming together. The next "Hunt" chapter will have a lot of action, too. Before that, Harry must deal with: Neville's revelations; remand prisoner G M Weasley; Augustus Tavistock; and Luna examining the contents of Ginny's knicker drawer. A diffeent sort of action.
More soon.

Author's Response: Thank you.
Next, we start with Lavender sitting in a tent, after that, well, you can probably guess some of it.

Faithfulness to JKR's world is what I strive for. This particular story will be no more than one (possibly two) more chapters, but there is other stuff in the works.

I've just read through this again and realized how much I really like it. Everyone loves the twins, but it always struck me that of the two of them George was the slightly more decent one. I can totally see him having trouble accepting Fred's faults after his death.

Very interesting seeing how you put Angelina and George together! Your post-DH timeline must be a thing of wonder!

I know you're swamped with lots of stories, but I hope you come back to this one some day, it's such a great cliffhanger!

Author's Response:
Thanks for the review.
When I started my timeline I looked at numbers (25 DA members) and couples (four canon – H/G, R/Hr, Neville/Hannah and George/Angelina) and decided that eight out of 25 getting together permanently was enough. I also decided that as H/G and R/Hr, were well (and cleverly) established by JKR that the other two canon couples would get together later. The idea for this has been floating around for a long time.
George would have trouble accepting Fred’s death, and Angelina tried (and failed) to move on. I had a lot of fun with this pairing and I’ll probably write more, but not soon.
