Summary: And there he was. The one boy she could not stand. His messy, jet black hair was ruffled and untidy and his glasses were sitting crooked on his nose. James Potter was here. With Lily. And all her Muggle friends. At a Muggle ski resort. Could things possibly be worse? Oh yeah, Sirius Black is there, too.
I really like this story. I think it has every thing a Lily and James story should have. Update soon.
Author's Response: Aw, thank you :) The next chapter is being written as we speak, so hopefully it will be up soon!
Summary: James Potter is Head Boy and Gryffindor Quidditch captain in his seventh year at Hogwarts. He has three best friends and his life seems perfect--except that Lily Evans, the only girl he's ever loved, can't stand him.
Lily Evans is Head Girl and top of their class. She's always been disgusted by James' arrogance, yet she can't seem to stop blushing when he's around.
As their Head Boy and Girl duties bring them together, can James find a way to win Lily's love?
A Different Kind of Magic has been nominated for the 2011 Quicksilver Quills: Best Canon Romance. Thank you!
I've temporarily changed the rating to 3rd-5th years due to site glitches. I don't think there is anything graphic in the story thus far, but please read at your discretion anyway.
I really liked how you wrote about Sirius's reaction to seeing James at the funeral. Update soon.
Author's Response: Thank you for the review! I've been trying to add more depth to James' relationships with his friends because, even though it is primarily a James/Lily story, the Marauders are really important to him too. Hopefully I'll get chapter 14 out with less of a wait this time. :)
Summary: Its the school year after their O.W.Ls and the Marauders are eager to start their N.E.W.Ts. But not all is well. Lord Voldermort and his supporters wreak havoc in the Wizarding World outisde of Hogwarts. It seems there is no place safe, except Hogwarts.
This is the year when the Marauders must turn their attitudes around. This is the year where they realise what is important in life - not pranks and wreaking havoc, but the bonds of friendship and love.
The trouble is, these bonds can be unravelled...
...This is The Turning Point.
That was great. Update again soon.
Author's Response: Thank you! :) Next chapter will be up soon, I hope!
Summary: "I don't wanna parachute into love,
No, I wanna skydive
And fall until we fly, live until we die together,
If heaven is my home, you could only make it better."
-Skydive, Jason Reeves
Seventh Year at Hogwarts is about much more than memorizing all the lessons for the upcoming N.E.W.Ts. It's about falling in love with someone you least expected to, about realizing who you are and what you want to do. It's about friendship, laughter, and the first steps towards a great betrayal. You strengthen the bonds already made and reconnect with someone you've had a fallout with.
Everyday Voldemort gets stronger, and the outside world becomes more real and more frightening. Lily, Marlene and the Marauders learn what it means to fall in love, what true friendship is, how to let go, and what is most important in life. Because not growing up is not an option. And some things are worth fighting for.
Why did you have to end it with a cliff-hanger? Anyways, I liked how Snape watched Lily and James through most of their date. It shows that he loves Lily and I really like that. I also like how you wrote about how James was feeling about holding Lily's hand and what not. I can relate to that about how I feel around my boyfriend. Update soon.
Author's Response: Haha i find it interesting that you saw Severus watching them as a sign of love. I was going for the creepy vibe. But, I guess I failed. I hate Snape, just so everyone knows.
He returned with a quiet sadness and a surprising new responsibility to keep him focused. She returned with a misplaced bitterness and the matching position that forced them to work with one another. Yet fear, resentment, and stubborn arrogance kept pushing them apart, even when they were meant to be together.
Winner, Quicksilver Quill for Best Canon Romance. Thank you!!
This is my favorite one so far too. I always love reading that moment when Lily figures out she is in love with James.
Severus was angry. Thoughts of Lily and James were still running through his head. His hatred of James for being everything that he was not pulsed through his veins. Severus let his thoughts consume him; he ignored his reserve and took the slip of paper from Avery, uttering the incantation as he unleashed his dark anger on the unsuspecting boy.
A story of desperation, fighting fate, love versus destiny. Friendship turning to enmity and enmity to friendship. This is the tragically beautiful story of Lily Evans, Severus Snape, and James Potter.
I think that was very good. As for getting Wormtail in there, I think he was a good person who just got scared. So you could get him in there by kinda being a bit immature, but still a good friend. And if you don't want to do that metion how he is studying or something, but your right in saying who cares about him anyways. Well, good job, again.
Author's Response: Thank you (: First fic, so it's nice to get a positive review. I definitely agree with what you are saying about Wormtail, he was spineless but not necessarily a bad person. I just didn't see how he would add to the dynamic of the story, or at least not without really working at it. So I guess it's mostly my laziness that's cut him out, but maybe if I finish I can go back and edit him in to be more "politically correct," if you will. Thanks again!
Summary: What if, on that fateful October night, it was not Lily's sacrifice that saved Harry, but James' sacrifice that saved them both? What if Lily is left to pick up the broken pieces of her life after its been shattered into a million pieces? Who would be there to rescue her? Who would get her through the night? This is a story of loss, of pain, of hopelessness, and ultimately, of healing.
After much deliberation and input from all you guys who have read thus far, I have officially decided to continue this story. It was initially supposed to be a one-shot, but I've decided I already have too much of my heart invested in it to quit now. :) Second chapter in progress. Thanks, all! Advice and reviews are still very welcome!
That was really good. It does leave me wondering how if Lily had lived how Harry's life would have been.
Author's Response: Well, I have decided after long thought to continue. Any suggestions or advice would be most welcome! :)
Summary: Lying to myself, lying to my friends, lying to Remus, to Sev . . . to James. I couldn't do it anymore. I had to suck it up . . . and fall in love.
In the midst of a war, Lily Evans, consumed by fear for her small family and her own identity as "Muggleborn", she finds herself turning to the least likely person for protection and companionship - James Potter. This is yet another story of that fateful seventh year, when two people came together, and gave birth to a saga.
I think that was written very well. I like how she thinks a lot about James. I also was very happy to see another James and Lily fic. Those are my favorite and the way Petunia's wedding was written in was nice, too. Update soon.
Author's Response: Thanks! And I may have drawn some personal feelings into this story :) I enjoy writing about Petunia's wedding in correlation to Lily's personal feelings .. . it's rather fun. -Joy
