Harry Potter and the Hero's Lament by L A Moody

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: With McGonagall firmly entrenched as Hogwarts’ new headmistress, Harry is enticed to return for his seventh year under unique conditions. Aided by Ron and Hermione, he embarks upon a Horcrux search-and-destroy mission using the school as the base of operations. Recognizing that saving the wizarding world from the ultimate evil is a rather daunting task for a seventeen-year old wizard, the Order of the Phoenix steps in to assist Harry on his journey. It soon becomes clear, however, that not everyone has the same lesson plan in mind for our hero. As the headmistress attempts to lay a clever trap to reveal hidden agendas, Voldemort waits in ambush at the one site that Harry is sure to visit.

But before Harry can face his nemesis, he must face down the inner demons that plague his own life and truly grow into adulthood. His activities are punctuated with school pranks, Quidditch, parties, and the requisite amount of rule-breaking that readers have come to expect from the trio.

I read through this one so fast, I had to go back and make sure I didn't miss anything! :)

Author's Response: There are definitely a lot of niggling little details in that chapter, some of which are poised to bite Harry right in the arse. The ride is not over, not by a long shot.

Bravo! I like how you are painting Trelawney!

Author's Response: Thereís definitely more to Sybill than meets the eye. Where does one draw the line between unbalanced/flaky and unbalanced/sinister? Lots more surprises to come.

Love it! I say that alot, but I do. Stevens was wonderful and the dance was great!

Author's Response: I tried to keep Harryís plan from not being too unbelievable by having him simply listen to what Ginny was telling him (verbally as well as non). I admit that I feel the most unsure when Iím writing anything that is remotely romantic. Luckily, Stevensí acidic presence was there to keep things from getting too sticky sweet.

That's some really great writing about the Conundrum!! Great imagination! I love how you have worked Neville in so he gets his due too!! Great!!

Author's Response: This was probably the biggest obstacle in this story: how to unravel the insurmountable Conundrum, especially since I had constructed a much different problem than JKR did. Hopefully by taking it step-by-step it made sense.

I knew from the moment the Prophecy was ambiguous enough to possibly refer to Harry as well as Neville, that my resolution would be that it actually involved them both. Add to that Dumbledoreís admission that by being a clever fellow heís not above making large mistakes, and there you have the very twist I was looking for.

BAHAHAHAHAHA!! Too funny!!!

Author's Response: A bit of mayhem to cheer up poor Remus. After all the students were just trying to make lessons fun like he always does. Also wanted to clearly establish that the interactions between Ginny and Remus outside of school were much different, especially for those who had not read the prequel.

BAHAHAHA! Love the ending of this chapter and the depth that you take all the characters is amazing! Can't wait to see how you play out Neville and Snape here. I've read what you have done of Dark Pheonix, so I know where they end up there, but this is amazing!

Author's Response: This was one of my favorite chapters to write. Besides juggling all the different points of view, it marked my first foray into writing from Snapeís point of view. Much to my surprise, being in his shoes did not feel as strange to me as I expected.

Hope you wonít be too disappointed that I donít go into detail about how Neville and Snape work things out between the end of this story and the sequel. I intended it to be a surprise akin to the one in the canon Epilogue where Neville (the slowest student of all) pursues a career in teaching.

As for the ending: every once in a while, Remus likes to grandstand, too.

I love McGonagall here! Spunky Grandma!

Author's Response: I always envisioned McGonagall as a rather feisty old bird. Just witness the scene where Umbridge attempts to inspect her Transfiguration lesson.

Wow. Very good! Very very good!

Author's Response: I know what you mean, this chapter was one long roller coaster ride. Glad you found the destruction of the first Horcrux satisfying. Could not bear to shortchange the readers in that respect.

Hate that Draco died, although it seemed odd he survived in JK's book anyway, but I love how he came out of the wand and helped Harry! Great Job!

Author's Response: I, too, was surprised that with the death toll in DH, Draco was among the survivors. I just canít imagine Voldemort not exacting revenge so I changed it in my version. This way, at least he redeems himself in the end.

So you turned it into Harry's own story of the way he wished it had happened? Very clever! Plus it sets up nicely for Dark Pheonix and where Teddy gets all his ideas for his story! Standing ovation to you! Job well done! Very true to cannon and I love it!

Author's Response: Iím absolutely thrilled that you liked the twist at the end. As you can see from the other comments, not everyone else was so open-minded. I just donít see the ending to DH being one of those happily ever after things; what can I say? Thanks for all the support along the way.

I loved the part where Harry was reminded about the wizard from Lupin's trip! You could totally see Dumbledore doing that!

Author's Response: I was worried that reference was too obscure. Thanks for the reassurance. Originally, I included the actual movie title in Hermioneís catalogue, but then read the Mugglenet warnings about copyright infringement and rewrote it to be a more oblique reference. As a direct result, I also added the Headmistressí comments about lawyers.

Cruel Moon for the Misbegotten by L A Moody

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: Remus Lupin is a man whose bÍte noir assumes very real proportions on the night of each full moon. It is a reality that he had accepted for most of his life; forced to reconcile to the limitations of his existence at an early age. Then out of the blue, Nymphadora Tonks waltzes into his life, throwing all his stoic principles into turmoil. But wizarding society’s prejudices against werewolves are so deeply ingrained that even specialized Healers have no choice but to admit that some of the most basic answers are just unavailable. As Remus undertakes a dangerous undercover mission that may help him to find answers among his own brothers, Tonks follows a convoluted trail that will uncover the true nature of hatred buried within the Ministry of Magic itself.

Follow this tale of despair and redemption as it weaves through the bustling boulevards of Rome to the carefree Bohemian sections of London to the austere bones of post-industrialized Britain to the majestic spires of Hogwarts castle. It is a story not presented as a romance, but rather as one man’s journey to hell and back as inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Serves as a prequel to my other story, Harry Potter and the Hero’s Lament, but either story can be read independently of the other.

I think I just read the last four chapters without stopping (that is in between making cookies and other chores!!) Just wow! !!!!! Aberforth's watch was true genious!

Author's Response: Men and their gadgets! If Dumbledore had all those spindly little silver things, I expected Aberforth to have something more substantial Ė but still silver. Glad the plot has swept you along. That is a writerís most important goal.

Just great!! I love it! I'm moving on Harry Potter and the Hero's Lament now! Can't wait!! These are great and I so wish I had discovered it before starting Pheonix!! Now it gives me the perfect excuse to start over reading it again too!! Love it!!

Author's Response: I think youíll really enjoy Heroís Lament. Itís a much more complicated story so donít let the more light-hearted tone fool you. Not having to wait for the chaptered updates, it will all fall into place without too much backtracking. I know it will enrich your reading of The Dark Phoenix. But the fact that you were able to go into the third installment and still make sense of the plot makes me feel like I gave enough information with having to summarize the two prior stories. Thanks again for all the encouragement!

Okay I jumped over to this story as I was waiting for more Dark Pheonix and this is the first time in days I have stopped long enough to leave a review! I love it and wow I wish I had read this before starting DP!! Totally fills in the blanks for me with DP and absolutely great and this is by far my favorite chapter! I love all the talk about what happened at Tonks dance and Snape and Dumbledore sticking it to her idiot date! too funny! I'm really enjoying getting into Remus's head as far as what his thoughts were about being with Tonks and it adds so much depth to the canon stories, but don't think for seconds that I mean your stories don't stand on their own, because you have done an excellent job creating the worlds in your stories and I can't wait to finish this one, move onto the next one and then finish up with your Dark Pheonix! Thank you for writing such great stories!!

Author's Response: Delighted that youíre enjoying the story! Unfortunately, it hasnít had as many reads as my other ones. It was great fun fleshing out the adult characters that seem to get passed over in the canon series. Dumbledore gets painted as such a Machiavellian character in Deathly Hallows that I wanted to weigh in by showing some of his more charismatic moments. By delving into Remusí head, he doesnít come across as being so weak and pathetic, either. Thanks for all the glowing compliments! (blushes)

If I wasn't a Snape fan before, you've certaintly made me a bigger one! :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much. Coming from a fellow Snape lover, that really means the world to me! Thereís more of him to look forward to in the upcoming chapters.

This is amazing!! You take the characters outside of JK's main ones to places JK never did! Not that hers wasn't great, but you do them fantastic justice here! Incredible!! This (and Dark Pheonix) are what define my requirements for a good story! That is they capture my attention, my imagination, and I am lost so much in the words that its as if I am a mere fly on the wall watching your story play out in a full IMAX experience!! BRAVO!

Author's Response: Thanks for all the glowing words! I can't help being energized. HBP is particularly rich in untold stories. JKRís characters are so well realized that itís not difficult imaging them having outside adventures that didnít make it into the books. After all, Harryís viewpoint is such a narrow wedge of the entire pie.

Iím currently working on a behind-the-pages treatment of DH with an unexpected twist. Consider that a preview of coming attractions!

LOVE IT. Just love it. Fred was my favorite hands down and I was pissed when JK chose to off him, but I would probably have been mad equally if she had done in the others! I was on the verge of tears through every chapter, but smiling at the same time and out right laughing by their ends!! Great job, great story telling. Again, I just love it!!
