Here's what the Guide to the Potterverse* has to say about Fanfiction Writers and their culture:

The Fanfiction Writer is a harmless creature that comes in many varieties and styles. However, most of them seem to be lacking in the way of name, some of the most common having 'skate', 'gurl', '4ever', and/or the name of a character from the fanfiction the writer likes to write in it.

The Fanfiction Writer is a semi-social creature, usually found in small groupings around forums. The younger ones tend to speak in an almost untranslatable language, some of the more common words being 'chappie' and 'kawaii' and one of the more common phrases being 'plz reveiw ppl!!!' Most of the elderly ones are more than happy to help the younger ones develop into fine writers, thus a strong bond is usually created in a Fanfiction Writer Community.

Most young Fanfiction Writers enjoy having a place to display useless facts about themselves, usually in the form of thousands of contradicting quiz results, on a place called an Author Page. While this display scares many away, a few patient elders will eventually discover, if they haven't been already advertised on every available surface on the forums, stories the young Fanfiction Writer has written.
