Fiction submissions are entered into a text box, removing formatting that you may have done in your word processing program. To add the formatting, you will use the HTML tags listed below. Each tag is listed with instructions for its use. If you are unsure of how to format your fiction, please contact a member of the staff.

| Paragraph <p></p> |
Paragraph tags are used to put a break between each paragraph, making your fiction easier to read. |
The <p></p> tag is unnecessary if you hit the Enter key twice at the end of each paragraph. If you prefer not to do so, you create a paragraph by doing the following: <p>text of paragraph</p> Notice how the second tag contains a slash--this directs the browser that the tag is now closed. |
| Bold <b></b> |
This tag makes text bold. | To use this tag, put the two tags
around the text you wish to be bold, like so: <b>text of paragraph</b> it will appear as: text of paragraph |
| Italics <i></i> |
This tag will italicize your text. | All internal monologues (thoughts
or discussions that characters have with themselves) should be in italics.
Titles of novels are also to be italicized. <i>text of paragraph</i> it will appear as: text of paragraph |
| Underline <u></u> |
This tag will underline your text. | Any text you would like to
emphasize by underlining it can be placed between these tags like so: <u>text of paragraph</u> it will appear as: text of paragraph |
| Horizontal Line <hr> |
This tag inserts a horizontal line (a divider) between your paragraphs. | To use this tag, insert it between
the two sections of text you want divided with a line. Note that you
will only use the tag <hr>--there is no </hr>. Example: text of paragraph one. <hr> text of paragraph two. text of paragraph one text of paragraph two
