Wow, you did a great job of getting inside Petunia's head! She really is awful, isn't she? Hard to believe her and Lily were sisters. The bit where she left little baby Harry lying on the floor like that! I also like those little moments where she she shows a more caring side, acknowledging her sister's death and perhaps being sad about it, but in Petunia fashion it's very suppressed.

Just popping by to congratulate you on your Quicksilver Quill Award win! The Petunia you've captured here is both repugnant in her treatment of Harry, and yet she shows some small signs of humanity at the loss of her sister. I love the repetition of "Lily's son. Lily's dead." It's like a link that tethers each moment, each scene together. You also capture the mood that JKR creates in the first few chapters of Philosopher's Stone. The mundane suburbia of their lives is shown so well in the first few paragraphs before it is ripped open with the appearance of Harry.

Ever since someone pointed out the thought that living with a Horcrux could have caused the Dursleys' horrible dispositions, I've wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But this so fully immersed me in the idea of these characters as uncaring, inflexible people to begin with that my old hatred for then resurfaced. Very well done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much :) I'm glad my characterization had an effect on you!

I think Dudley is an unfortunate name. How could Petunia leave a sweet little baby sitting on the floor and not feed it or clean it up? I suppose she got around to it later in the day but still. Maybe she was in shock.
