I'll bet you thought I forgot about you. I had so many things going on over the holidays that I'm just now recovering and getting back to my schedule. This was a wonderful wedding. I wish I were heading to the land of the Kahunas. I'm glad to hear that you are busy with the sequel. I'll be looking for that.

I didn't know that bosuns had that much power. Betty sounds like a woman who can deal with the power. I can't wait to read about the wedding and Hawaii. Or just the wedding. You're right. You have to do a good job on the wedding.

Very enjoyable and different.

That was great. I should've seen an invisible Hawaiian island coming. I went to Maui once for a vacation and I hope to go again some day. Maybe when I get older and retire. I'd like to go for a month and make it worth my time. I love the Kahunas. This was just wonderful and I enjoyed imagining it.

Ryan had the perfect solution. Would they get married in the States? What do they call those? Destination Weddings? You know, they could also have a big reception for both couples when they get back. It could be informal. Just a thought.

Wow! What a chapter and what an ending! You had some really creative ideas. I loved the steps down to the vault and the rubies.

That was interesting. I liked the ending. There was such an emotional moment and then they all got distracted by what the color was under the house. A couple of chapters ago you asked if you should publish the chapters as they're finished or write it all and then publish. If you write the whole story first then you have a chance to go back and rewrite if you have to. That approach also gives you the ability to publish on a regular schedule and readers always like that. Of course, I'm greedy and want to read as soon as you've finished writing it.:P

I should've expected the cowboy but I didn't so I was surprised when he showed up. Where's Harry and their back-up? I enjoyed touring the monuments in Godric's Hollow. That must be depressing for Harry still at this point.

Author's Response: Good question...but just wait. You're right about Harry. I don't think he would have gone back at this point, if it hadn't been something connected with his job.

I remember "Downtown." I was very young when that record came out. I'll miss Blackstone but I think it's good for Ryan to be working on his own. Jamie's there too isn't he?

What I really love about your writing are the email messages sent back and forth. I look forward to those. They're pretty funny.

Knowing Hagrid I'd be suspicious of what was in his "cuppa." I wish Muggles could have portraits that talk. I guess we have film though which isn't interactive but maybe someday.

I'm thinking ahead. This seems like the type of story that could have a sequel. Do you have future plans for this storyline? We need to follow Ryan and Jamie. Could there be romance between the Admiral and Minerva?

Author's Response: Well, actually, there is a sequel. It's been started. I'm wondering whether to post chapters as they are written, or (as I did with this story) wait until the whole thing is finished. The thing is, when the characters take over and start writing the story themselves, sometimes that means revisions in earlier chapters. That can be done, of course. What do you and other readers think about that?

I'm really liking Admirable Blackstone. That was so nice to make a donation to the renovation of Hogwarts. I wonder what else the US party will do for Hogwarts. And, I'm glad Ryan and Jamie will be staying in Britain.

Well, if that's demotion I'll take one:D

I think Harry's experiencing what most of us experiencing some big event in our lives. Winning the battle against Voldemort was anticlimactic. The engine that had been driving his life was gone so now what does he do? I agree with Ryan and Hermione though. Harry needs some time to think and find a new direction for his life.

What Blackstone said is true. If people could just talk to each other rather than going through a middle person or several middle people there would be better communication.

If the explosion had to happen it happened at the right time. There were plenty of people around to deal with it including a Muggle-born who knew how to make the explosion look like something explainable rather than something magical.

What a cliffhanger! I wonder how close Ryan and Harry were to the exit. I hope the flying medical team, or some of them, is left to see to injuries. This was a wonderfully exciting chapter.

Great chapter. I'll bet Jamie will find something. You have the US stuff down so well. Have you made any comparisons between your story and JKR's version of American magic?

Author's Response: Thank you for asking. This was written before Ms. Rowling published anything about the American Wizarding World. I was working within the canon of the seven books, in which she established that there is an American magical community but only mentioned "a couple of American witches from Salem." I had to think it all out for myself. Sorry, everyone, but J.K. Rowling got it wrong. What she's invented for America just doesn't work, and that knocks the foundation out of her fabulous concept, which seemed so surprisingly possible that it caught the imagination of millions. For instance, her idea that the US only has one school of magic is simply impossible. The only way that could happen would be if (1) the proportion of Wizards to Muggles was much, much lower in the US, and (2) the American magical community had much, much less contact with the Muggle world than British Wizards did. Neither of those seems logical, or fits with the original canon she created; as an American, I find these implications rather demeaning, and I'm sure that's not what Ms. Rowling intended. She nailed the British Wizarding World because she's British, but she apparently doesn't understand the USA nearly as well. Not only is the US population about five times the size of Britain's, our regional and sectional differences would have demanded the founding of more than one school, entirely aside from the travel problems created by the huge distances, especially early on and even allowing for Magical travel. Those differences remain strong enough, today, to insure those schools would be still going. Even if I changed the name of my New England school to "Ilvermorny," for instance, there's no way Southern Wizarding families would ever have sent their children to school in Massachusetts. And today there are over 3,000 four-year Muggle colleges in the US...only one Wizarding school? I can't believe it. As for Wizarding governance, I assumed that it would follow the outlines of the Muggle government in much the same way as it does in Britain. Wizarding influence on the Muggle government would be just as important here as it clearly is in Britain; Wizards in Britain followed the Muggle structure; Americans of both sorts obviously came from Europe and especially Britain; British ideas influenced the Muggles over here and would have influenced the Wizards as well. Ms. Rowling's description of a separate "American Wizarding Congress," a complete state-within-a-state, doestn' strike me as totally impossible, merely very unlikely. A Department Of Magic, direct analogue to the Ministry Of Magic, best preserves that wonderful feeling that "it might actually be true" which we all loved so much about the first seven books.

What a great chapter. George seems to have a very effective guard against shoplifting. Jamie sounds like an amazing Healer.
