Reviews For Black Death

Hi, Neil. An interesting idea you have here, a formal funeral ceremony which is unique to the Black family and which suggests that their custom of choosing star names for family members is based on something more than a consultation with a celestial encyclopedia.

I liked your portrayal of 'Dora as a six-year-old girl. My granddaughter is also six years old, and you have hit the right note of young but not babyish.

Thanks for continuing to write (and for that kind plug you gave me, much appreciated).

Author's Response:
Thanks, Vicki

I'd like to think that the Blacks have a system. Bellatrix the warrior, Andromeda the chained woman (shame about Narcissa's lack of a star name).

My kids are no longer little six-year-olds, so I had to rely on memory. I need to keep the memories of their youth alive for Strangers at Drakeshaugh.

excellent keep up the good work i usually don't pay attention to the Marauder era but it echos to the second Wizard war
Enjoyed the family "black sheep" gathering (sorry for the pun)

keep up the good work
I enjoy your canon take on rebuilding the wizard society after t riddle
I was sorely disgusted at the 17 year timeline jump we got stuck with

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I don't usually write Marauder Era, but sometimes stories fit.
Black Sheep would make a good title, I'll bet it's already been used.
I'm grateful for the seventeen years. The epilogue gives me a target to aim for, and the long gap gives me plenty of opportunities to play, and (try to) keep to canon.

A remarkable story Neil, you clearly know about the need to recognise and mark the passing of a relative.
A beautiful ceremony, we muggles have to launch Chinese lanterns.
Thank you, and glad to hear that you intend to keep on writing.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review, and sorry for the delayed reply. It seems that these days I only arrive here to post something (in this case James and Me), and remember loads of reviews I haven't replied to.
Whether you're religious or not, you need to mark the end of life.

I was impressed with the ceremony led by Uncle Alfie. Whether Andromeda and Sirius had been shunned by the family or not they were still Blacks and didn't have to be invited to the other house to grieve. They could do the ceremony wherever they were.

Author's Response: Thanks. Marauders Era isn’t familiar to me, and I was a bit worried about how this one would be received. -N-

Not what I normally expect from you.

Author's Response: Good unexpected, or bad unexpected? :-D -N-

Another story from you, how great. I feel that you are the only one left at this site, or nearly at least. The others that wrote stories of a high quality has stopped writing or at least publishing it at this site. I'm thinking about Equinox Chick, half a slug, hestiajones and Gmariam (who has moved into another fandom and are writing fanfiction there). I've given up hope about some awesome stories like Remember the slytherins as people have just stopped. Therefore I'm very happy whenever you post a new story as it means a new piece of high quality writing about this univers - a univers you've made your own.

I was curiucs about this piece as it differs from what you normally write, but it was great, a new side to Sirius (Maurader era is what i usually read). The thought that Andromeda would send Sirius "home" that many years later is making me happy, though that nowone except maybe Tonks would send her on her way is sad.

When did Alphard Black die? Most seem to think he died about the time of the Mauraders 7th year, that sirius recived money from the estate and would live on them when he was figthing for OotP.

Thanks for keeping the stories up, and if this site doesn't stay up, where can i find your stories?

Author's Response:
Thanks for the review.

Thanks for putting me alongside such quality writers. I really haven’t read enough of Carole (EquinoxChick) or half a slug’s work. Personally, I’d add WeasleyMom and Oregonian to the list. I’m enormously grateful to this site, and its moderators. I was subjected to at least three months of rejections before I got anything approved. MNFF gave me access to betas (including hestiajones and Gmariam) who managed to beat some sense into me. It seems to me that, these days, there are some people writing here now who don’t have a beta, or who ignore them. But staff is stretched, and I certainly don't have the time to help.

I wrote this for a competition on ffn and it’s only my second ever “Marauders Era” story. There will be one more, but I’m also working on “Strangers” and some of my other chaptered fics.

When Alphard died is uncertain. There’s certainly a case for making it earlier than the events of this story. I need to do more research, but I was working to a deadline

I hope that this site survives for another year, even though many have gone. I think that there will be a surge when “Fantastic Beasts” is released (next year?). All of my Harry/Ginny stories are at SIYE, a Harry/Ginny site which seems to be thriving, and I submit to fanfiction.net, too. I use the same penname everywhere.
