Awesome! So sad and sweet!
That was so sweet! I love it! You did an amazing job with the emotions, toying with mine the entire time. Gosh. Why'd you have to do that? Anyway, I love the perspective of Petunia and her development as a character. Also Dudley, for some reason, I really liked how you had him in jail for being afraid of the wizarding war. Huh. And how Petunia is painfully expressing how Vernon hated Harry. That both broke my heart and made me go "Awww..." at the same time. The entire last paragraph made me do that too. Again, absolutely adorable and a very well done fic.
II teared up! This was amazing!
That is so amazing. It really is interesting too. What happens to the Dursley's is never given much thought. But that was really amazing.
Oh,wow! This is so simple but so amazing. You have really shown how you don't need a complex story line and flowery language to have a great story. I love how Harry came to his uncles funeral, that is so like him. I also love his and Petunia's interaction with each other. It really felt like closure. The only thing was I found it difficult to swallow that Dudley is in prison as it doesn't seem quite like him has I always saw him as a bully not a criminal, but then I could be wrong and any amount of things could have happened to Dudley since we last saw him in DH. However, I truly loved this story!
I love the way you made Petunia remorseful without completely changing her personality. You said a lot about her pain without actually having to go into too much detail - "She lost all dignity and put her head in her hands, shaking uncontrollably" - was an impressive way to set the tone for the rest of the story.
If you can't already tell, I really, really enjoyed this :]
Oh, that was great! I love thinking about where the Dursleys are now, and what happened to them after they parted ways with Harry. This was a really awesome story.
This is incredible!!! WOW!
I always wondered about the Dursleys, and though JKR contemplated having Harry see Dudley at King's Cross, well, this is good too.
Well written and in character.
I like to think that Dudley had changed a little after he said that he didn't think Harry was a waste of space. But your take is such a possibility of what happened to him; and Vernon not being able to live with it, also works.
But that is what makes the fan fiction so interesting. The authors (I am not one) have different takes on how the characters turn out.
Amazing story, you nailed the characters' personalities. Your story was moving, and I really enjoyed reading it.
That was amazing! It really made me cry!
Very good! I love the idea of Harry being able to go back and see Petunia. Pity about Dudley in prison, though it's actually quite likely.
This was a well-written story, and I think you grasped Petunia well. It also seems very likely that Harry would change his mind to come at the end, because, despite how he grew up, he has a strong sense of loyalty to family.
I had a real sense of Petunia's awkwardness and her shock every time she heard how much Harry now had, and as she realised how much she had lost.
I think it's interesting that Dudley went to jail because of his fear of the wizarding war... not just because he got in with the wrong crowd. I think it shows that in some ways, Dudley meant well, but he'd never been taught to control himself and I think his fate is rather sad.
Of course she had loved her husband; in fact, she had doted on him as she had doted on Dudley. But there was no use in pretending he was a wonderful man – not when the nephew they had both so horribly neglected was sitting behind her. I thought that was a great line, because it shows that Petunia does have some sense of reality and of what she's done, but also her grief for her husband - who, after all, gave her what she most wanted.
As Carol said in her review, I think it unlikely that the Dursleys wouldn't have heard about the end of the war, particularly since Dedalus was living so near them and protecting them, surely he would let them know when they no longer needed it...
But otherwise it was a lovely story.
Hi there, I think this is well written and your characterisation of Petunia is good. The story is interesting and flows well. Harry and Petunia's conversation is interesting and comes across as a very 'real' conversation. I like the awkwardness that Petunia feels throughout the story.
However, I find it somewhat implausible that no one would have told them that the battle was over and that they were safe, especially as Diggle lived in the next village.
Nice story otherwise. ~Carole~
Author's Response: Hey Carole, thanks for reading and reviewing. I totally see your point there - as it says throughout the books, even the Muggles notice when things aren't quite right in the wizarding world. I think it was more the specifics that I imagined Petunia to be looking for, particularly as the war with Voldemort has taken most of her family, albeit in an indirect way. Great to think about these things though!
Brilliant, you've really kept Petunia's character. I never thought of this moment though i did suspect that Dudley would probably go to prison. Really clever and sweet at the end :D
