I'm glad I overcame my doubts and read this story. The doubts came from the backstreet boys allusion lol, I wasn't really a fan ;)
But I can see Ron still having his doubts, not about his love for Hermione but about whether he should make a move. Whether its what she wants now that they might not die. He never told her about the locket so there could be a shadow of a doubt until that kiss was confirmed with another one, unencumbered by the specter of sudden death or second guessing.
I think after his relationship with lavender he would be very gun shy (wand shy?) about kissing Hermione in public, just like he was acting at the end. But with this last final push from Hermione, I don't think he'll be able to keep his hands off her from now on! I think it's very telling that Ron made Hermione want to stop thinking and just feel. He's the only one that can do that.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yeah, if I'm honest I'm not a huge BSB fan myself, but the person I wrote the story for is, and the lyrics lend themselves quite well to a Ron/Hermione story. I'm glad you picked up on Ron being the one who makes her feel because I do think Ron is the person who does break through that aspect of her. Thanks again ~Carole~
I really liked it, you did a good job :)
Author's Response: Thank you very much ~Carole~
YAY! And waaa for poor Colin.
Author's Response: Thank you. Yes, poor colin.
It's almost all I read. I'm pretty new to the site and haven't yet published my first but please write more like this a Remus and Tonks and Harry and Ginny anything really.
Author's Response: I've written a few Remus Tonks and James/Lilys if you want to click my author page. There's not much Harry/Ginny but you might find a few things you like. ~Carole~
Ah, so perfect. It's refreshing to read Ron in character yet still romantic - I always find that authors seem to make the decision to write him as one or the other. I would have liked the fic to be a little longer, but it is still rather wonderful and rather subtle to read as a romance. Beautiful. :)
Author's Response: Thank you. If you like Ron/Hermione fics with great characterisation, might I recommend Weasley Mom who writes Ron brilliantly? Glad you liked this. Yes, it was a bit shorter than my usual things but it was a gift for someone and I needed to get it finished - ha ha. Thank you again ~Carole~
Well I guess I was just feeling the someone just died and everything is very sad kind of mood while reading, but I guess I could kind of see how you lead up to it in the end ;)
Author's Response: Ah, okay. Yeah, I see that. I just thought that the life/death conundrum gave it more poignancy. ~Carole~
Loved it! I wasn't really expecting the story to end the way it did, but what's a fic without some randomness? Nice job :)
Author's Response: Not sure what you mean by randomness as I thought the story was gearing up towards that particular end, but I'm glad you enjoyed the story and left a review. Thank you ~Carole~
hehe, what a nice way to use those spells
Author's Response: Yes, it makes a change that they're not being used to save their lives :-)
Sorry about that last review... I'd written something rather long and for some reason it just disappeared... I'll try to remember what I was saying...
So my favourite line was He should be thinking about death, about Colin Creevy and the countless others that had died that night, but looking at Hermione as she bit her trembling lower lip, all Ron could think about was life and love. I think this tied in really well with Hermione's comment that they needed to live, not just exist. There was a beautiful sense of healing and life continuing despite loss in the story, which you managed to show really well because there is an emphasis both on grieving for the dead and moving on... I'm not sure if I'm making sense now...
The connection you drew between Colin and Hermione and the way his father reacted, never really understanding why Colin had died and what/who he'd been fighting was really insightful and creative.
There was something a little sad about Hermione using those particular spells... like while they were moving on, what they'd been through would remain with them forever.
So sorry that this didn't all appear in the first review... I'm hoping it works this time.
Author's Response: Thank you for coming back :-). I always think the Muggle borns have a special connection because Hogwarts is so alien to them, but finally it's a place where they find acceptance. Then, of course, in year seven, it's a place of danger. So the idea of Hermione mourning Colin came from that really. ~Carole~
What a lovely Ron/Hermione fic. Your characterisation is just... perfect, particularly of Ron.
This was my favourite line
Author's Response: Hopefully your favourite line wasn't 'The End' - LOL. Thanks for the review Katrina, much appreciated. ~Carole~
Sweet little story
Author's Response: Thank you. ~Carole~
Well, I love it! You have such a solid grasp of every character you write, it's amazing. Ron was wonderful here. Why oh why do people give him such a hard time?? I really thought the contrast between him thinking about love and life in a time of death was well done. He felt guilty, but at the same time, it was only normal, and a good, good thing for them to have each other in such a time. You built off events in Deathly Hallows so well the story felt like very natural. Lovely read.
That's rambly just to say it's so well done. What a great fic for Amanda! Happy Birthday!
Author's Response: Thank you, Gina. I like Ron and can't give him a hard time (not even in Shrouds - ha ha) ~Carole~
GAHHHHH! You are killing me! :D Why, oh, why do most of my favorite writers so rarely write Romione--WHY!?
This is utter LOVE. Your Ron is just how I imagine him at this time--you've found the perfect balance between his hard-won maturity and the one who rarely says the right thing and is nervous about messing things up.
I loved their first time being after a funeral, and especially this funeral, after what Hermione said about how Colin was like her... perfect. And doing those same protective spells, but not because of fear. I love it! I even love that you capitalized the word Fallen. It adds to its importance, and I think that worked really well.
Totally nonsensical review, but you must have GOT that I completely adored this. Right into my favorites it goes. (Happy Birthday, Amanda!!)
Author's Response: Thank you, Lori. I don;t write Romione very often (if at all) so I'm staggered by the response to this fic. I'm glad that you, as Ron's lawyer, thought his portrayal was good - that meansd a lot. Thanks again ~Carole~
Me too love you very, very much for writing this BEA-utiful piece.. i really really enjoyed it.. AWESOME !!! :)
o my gosh ! im so excited by a new R/Hr story.. been waiting for a good story for like ages :D
Author's Response: Thank you very much. I don't write much R/Hr but it's strangely satisfying. Thanks again. ~Carole~
My jaw dropped- I am so touched- I am so excited to read this and just...
Okay, those were my thoughts before even reading it, lol.
Seriously, this is love and heartache and sweetness all wrapped into something beautiful. I love that it's from Ron's POV- partly because of the song, partly because of what is happening- it just makes more sense. I don't know if I ever mentioned this when you originally posted it on LJ, but you picked a different kind of moment that I would have thought upon hearing the song- a much sadder one- but it works and its the bittersweet sadness that goes so well with the love they find in each other.
This is so lovely, as are you. Thank you, this is amazing.
Author's Response: Thank you very much, Amanda. I'm glad you like the story and don;t think I did too badly by the song. I don't really know it vut the song came over as bittersweet in my mind, and I wanted a story that showed how much this pair belong to each other *sob*. I love Ron. ~Carole~
I absolutely loved it- it was not a 'love story' by any means- it was unique and amazing. I especially liked how it showed Ron in a good light, unlike most of the stories about him.
Thank You so much for writing it. It really brightened my day.
Author's Response: Thank you very much. Yeah, I feel sorry for Ron and think he gets a bad deal in fanfiction. Glad I brightened your day. ~Carole~
