Chapter: The Question

That sounded like something Ron would do and say. It seems, from the books, that he worries and worries about something and when it's over, he acts like it was no big deal. I like that he and Harry were going to ask at the same time and how they worked it out.

Author's Response: Thanks. I'd like to think that I've captured Ron in this one. As you say, he worries and worries, and afterwards it was no big deal. -N-

Chapter: The Question

I hadn't read this in a while, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Especially in light of the recent debate over Romione since JKR's comments about them likely needing counseling, I think this story captures why Romione would work, with or without counseling: Ron's sense of humor.

Ron has an all-too-rare ability to see the humor in life around him, to laugh at himself, and to get Hermione to laugh -- just to laugh period and perhaps even more importantly to laugh at herself occasionally. Harry's comment that being friends with just Hermione involved a lot less laughter than being friends with Ron (GoF, I think) is often read as speaking to what Ron and Hermione each bring to Harry, but it's also a statement of what Harry fails to bring to Hermione and the crux of why I think Hermione fell in love with Ron and not with Harry. You capture that humor in Ron and how he makes Hermione laugh extremely well.

Author's Response:
Thanks for the long and thoughtful review. Having read what I believe to be the entire interview, I think that both JKR and Emma reach the same conclusion:
EW: So maybe life presented this to him enough times until he had to make a choice and become the man that Hermione needs.
JKR: Just like her creator, she has a real weakness for a funny man. These uptight girls, they do like them funny.
EW: They do like them funny, they need them funny.
JKR: It's such a relief from being so intense yourself – you need someone who takes life, or appears to take life, a little more light heartedly.
EW: Definitely so important.

From the male perspective, I believe that Hermione may be the a bigger problem in the relationship than Ron, as she has never shown any sign of dialling down her critical facilities (less politely: she nags her menfolk). I think Ron actually copes better with Hermione's criticism. Yes, he explodes, but Harry (who spent the first eleven years of his life being belittled and ordered bout by the Dursleys) always reacts badly to Hermione's diatribes.

Chapter: The Question

It's very romantic, which makes it completely true. Any story with a Ron acting like DonJuan ( not the multiple girlfriends, but the always knows the right way to charm a girl) for me just isn't compatible with canon. Anyway this story is in a way much more romantic than other versions of this same scene simply because I can picture my husband acting in the same way. (We were sitting on a sofa right before he proposed, so he didn't fall)

Author's Response: Thanks. Ron is not great at romance, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t be romantic in his own way. On and Hermione (in my opinion) both suffer from low self-esteem and doubts, but both can see the other’s strengths. This catalogue of Ron’s anxieties was remarkably easy to write. -N-

I loved it, I did. I was anxious throughout, wondering how he'd manage THE question. I laughed when Ron describes, appropriately, the reactions on Hermione's face. I think it was great. Loved the mush at the end too.

Author's Response: Thanks. Ron's anxious self-doubt made this a lot of fun to write. I'm glad Imade you laugh. -N-

This was soo typically Ron....I love your representation of him....!!!!

After all that panic....the last line was awesome....!!!!

I really can't find anything to costructively critisize.......except that THE FANFIC ROXX(AGAIN)!!!!

Author's Response: Thanks. I think I must be closer to Ron than Harry, this was so much easier to write. The last line was (I hope) typical Ron - It won't work - it won't work - it woked, I always knew it would. -N-

That was perfect. It captured Ron's personality to a tee. Loved the line about the moisture leaving his mouth and coming out of his palms. Very well done (as usual).

Author's Response: Thanks. I sympathise with Ron, and I find his anxieties easy to relate to. Harry's question is now being beta read. -N-

Characters were spot on. Great work. I enjoyed it. I liked the idea that Ron and Harry would ask the question at the same time.

Author's Response: Thanks
I enjoyed this short trip inside Ron's head. I will write the Harry proposal one day.

Chapter: The Question

Wow, it's been a while since I've reviewed! I guess life just got in the way. Anyway, I love this story! I think it was a great idea to put it in Ron's point-of-view because I really get a feel of how nervous he is. I love all the imagery of him walking to Hermione's house and even thinking about how he's walking. It was just perfect for the tone of the story! The ending was absolutely precious too, and so true to Ron's character! Of course he would get tongue-tied and stumble on the steps! :) Another wonderful story, Neil! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. Ive been experimenting with first person point-of-view again (as should be obvious from Strangers at Drakeshaugh too). I was trying to show, rather than tell, Rons nerves. I hope that Ive succeeded. -N-
