So, I first read The Cause...I don't know. It must have been at least... two summers ago? Maybe? Well, I loved it. And Marty. And how she blended so well with everything that is beautiful and hilarious (and teenage-boyish) about the Marauders.
The tragedy of it all--I'd say, at least--- is what the Marauders once were: it being something wonderful that sort of falls apart in the face of war. The Final Cause displays that loss of innocence beautifully.
I really do love the Marauders...they are brilliant.
You are an excellent writer. Keep writing things.
Author's Response: Two summers ago sounds about right, that's around the time it was all put out there - although maybe it was closer to three? Madness! I'm really glad you like both stories, and also share the Marauder love - the more the better! Thanks so much for the review, I'm really glad you enjoyed the story!
How can you both hate and love an ending at the same time? Because that is seriously how I feel right now.
I've always thought that the saddest part of the entire Harry Potter series is the story of the Marauders and when Marty reflects on that it really hit me.
I absolutely adore this story as much as I adored The Cause. I just love it in a different way.
I hope you'll continue writing and, if I'm lucky, you might even write another funny Marauder era fic.
Because, seriously, you're just effing awesome at this.
Author's Response: You're absolutely right, the story of the Marauders is definitely one of the most tragic - the loss of James, who in my eyes seems to band them all together, would have torn them apart even if "Sirius"/Peter hadn't been the cause of it - and the fact that Remus gets left behind is heartbreaking. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed both this and The Cause, I love them both - can't see another in the works, unfortunately, but your review still means so much, so thank you! <3
I just read this all in one go, and wow! I loved your earlier fic, The Cause (soz I don't think I ever left a review though :P) and reading this sequel it's amazing how much your writing has matured and developed. Not that your earlier work wasn't great too, this just feels more, erm, grown up I guess? :P
I didn't expect this story to be so serious but it's impressive that you can pull off dark and depressing just as well as funny and light hearted. It was heartbreaking to see Remus and Marty's relationship fall apart, I kept hoping they'd find a way to get back together and literally had a tear in my eye reading the final chapter. But at the same time the ending felt really realistic and true to the characters.
I also like how you managed to fit everything in perfectly with events from the actual books.
Overall beautifully written and i look forward to reading more of your work! :D
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I wanted, not only to write something a bit darker and "grown up", like you said, but also to attempt to reconcile The Cause with canon as much as possible - one of the things about creating OCs in the Marauder Era is that you have to explain where they go, and usually that means killing them off - but that's not something I wanted to do with Marty at all! So thank you for picking up on those two things, it means all the world, and thank you for the review! =)
Are you going to write a sequel? I've always loved your stories
Author's Response: I am afraid not! I didn't even think I was going to write this one, it just sort of all happened a bit accidentally. :P But no, I'm afraid that's definitely it now - though I'm very flattered, and thank you so much for reviewing! :)
How long do you think this fic will be (Though, I know it'll probably end up being a much different length)? And often do you think you'll update? Because, I know it's only been three chapters but with the way things are going and you being an amazing writer I know this'll quickly become one of my favorites.
Author's Response: I'm afraid I can't really answer fully - technically there's only one part left and it's already been written, but I'm not actually that happy with it, so I'm going to try and rewrite it - whether that means another part will be created in the process, I don't know, and as to how long it will take I know even less - but the queue is generally about a week long so it will be that at the very least! Don't worry though, it will definitely get there in the end if you just bear with me. I'm very pleased to know that you're enjoying it!
When you said this story would be different I didn't think you'd turn into an angst writer! That was downright depressing. Amazingly written but depressing all the same. I'll be waiting on the edge of my (metaphorical) seat for Thr next chapter!
(Which will be coming out soon I hope.)
Author's Response: Well, there's always been a potential for angst amongst certain stories - Marty lost her mother in 'The Cause', after all, although I admit the harsh reality of the world is treated with a little less optimism here. I don't know whether that's because I myself feel older and more jaded about the world, or because Marty is older and more jaded by this point - probably a bit of both! It's strange, the jump doesn't seem that radical when you lived through its careful development in my mind, but I imagine to a reader, the two styles must seem polar opposite! Anyway, thanks for sticking with me, reviewing, and I will try and get the last part out soon! :)
I've just had a horrible thought. This is going to be AU, right? Because, if not, that means one of two things. One, it would mean that Marty and Remus break up which is just unfathomable or two, you're going to kill off Marty. But that would be absolutely horrible.
Author's Response: *Whistles innocently*
I check your page every once in a while for new stories although I didn't actually expect any after the Authors Note at the end of The Cause. But, and I kid you not, when I saw this story I literally dropped my phone (Which I use to read Fanfiction) and stared dumbly at the title for about 2 full minutes in surprise.
Anyway, onto the review! It's definitly much different then your other stories though it sort of reminds me of Azkaban Misrty. I'm used to very lighthearted stuff from you and so the first chapter kind of caught me off guard. It was actually a bit disconcerting to read about Marty that way and I freaked when I realized The Book had never gotten published. It sort of made the whole situation seem that much more depressing, just the fact that Marty and Remus weren't the perfect couple anymore.
But, regardless, it was still written beautifully though I've come to expect that from you as a writer. Wonderful job and I can't wait for the next chapter.
Author's Response: Wow, that's such a coincidence that you checked it when I actually had something up for the first time in about two years! And I also feel incredibly touched that you would still check my page every now and then, thank you. :) I agree, this is very different, I hope not in a bad way though!
*is jumping of rainbows and clouds of happiness*
I'm really curious as to how Marty will move into Remus' life now ...
Author's Response: :D I'm glad you like it so far! And I will try and post the next part when I can, so you can find out. :P
well when I said this one the most I meant I love The Cause, and The Final cause the most out of every story you have written.....yes I read every story. I'm glad your back to writing. I wish some of the other author's would start writing again.
Author's Response: Ah, that makes sense. Congratulations on reading every story, I'm impressed by that! And I'm glad you're glad I'm back, although I never really left writing, just fanfiction. I guess people just move on (and occasionally pop back again in my case, but still. :P) Anyway, thank you for your reviews (and your loyalty!), I'll try and get the next part up as soon as I can, having some issues with length though, I've had to cut it in half to make it fit and now it doesn't feel quite right...
When is the next chapter going to be posted? I cannot wait to see what happens. I love all your stories, but I like this one the most! :)
Author's Response: Should be soon - I'm impressed you like it the most after just one chapter, I hope the rest lives up to it now! :P Thanks for reviewing. :D
hey thanks for coming back! I absolutely love this story, update soon please!
Author's Response: Ah, I'm glad, and I'm sure I will!
AHHHH, you're back!" YES *punches air*. I loved The Cause and it still remains one of my favourite fics. This is different - obviously - it seems darker, but then these are dark times.
Honest to Merlin, I grinned widely when Luanne turned up - ha ha.
And then we reached the end, and amongst all the banter it turned dark. I'm intrigued and can't wait to read more.
Good to see you back. ~Carole~
Author's Response: Aw, I'm glad you still remember it, I was so doubtful of putting this up - I've had it for months but was convinced no one would remember the first, or care what happened - but I'm glad you've proved me wrong! It is a lot darker, it's a very different style for me, so I'm glad you don't hate it so far!
One word: YAY!!!!!!!!
I am SO glad you're posting this!
Author's Response: Ha, I'm glad! I hope it's worth it! =)
