Chapter: The Emptiness

Amazing one-shot. I absolutely love Neville as a character and this is truly the first fan-fiction I have seen that talks about him individually with such depth.
I never really thought about the implications of his parents being at St. Mungos. But you have connected that with his character development in canon so well! Hats off to you!

Author's Response: It's lovely to see that some of my older stories are still being read! I agree that Neville is a fantastic character, and I really appreciate that you think I've written him well and in depth. I think that Neville is quite similar to Harry, but in a way he has it harder. It's true that Harry suffered from neglect in a way that Neville never did, but Neville had a lot more expectations to live up to, and personally I think the situation with his parents is worse than Harry's. Because every time Neville goes to see them, his hopes rise that they might recover, and every time he actually gets there and sees that they haven't changed, it's like they die again. Thank you so much for reviewing and complimenting my story, it really means a lot. I do plan to write more about Neville eventually... but I have a lot of ideas for stories and little time to write them, so I'm not sure when that will happen... ~Katrina

All while reading this I was thinking 'Nevile, that could have been you!' He's one of my favorite characters and I think you did a great job on him. Since OOTP I had been thinking about Nevile and his parents and what it was like to grow up like he did. You captured him brilliantly. Keep writing! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for such a glowing review! I really appreciate you saying that I got his character right, as I didn't want to mess that up... especially seeing that this fic is essentially a character study. Yeah I'm the same as you, I've been thinking about what it would be like to have parents who were alive but couldn't recognise you ever since OotP. So thanks for taking the time to review!!

Oh, Neville.

I'm reviewing because I've always enjoyed character studies. I really like the way you characterized Neville. Authors often overlook the time in Neville where this must have happened. He didn't go from being the useless Neville he was portrayed as to a rebel leader in a night.

And, and, and Neville and Hannah 4 eva!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked my characterisation of Neville. Ever since OotP I've been haunted by what Neville must have suffered, growing up with his parents unable to recognise him. The way his grandmother treated shows how he ended up being, as you say, "useless Neville", and when he was finally able to overcome that and understand her grief it helped him understand himself. Thanks again for the review :)!

I decided to check out your other stories. :) Again, a very well written little character piece! It was very nice to see Neville decide it was time to move on, and accept what he did and did not have. The ending was lovely, and tied everything together sweetly; I especially loved the last sentence!

Author's Response: Thanks for reading some of my other stories :). I'm glad you liked the last sentence, I wasn't sure if it was a little cliched, so I'm glad you think it works. Ever since OoTP came out I've wondered about what it would be like to be Neville and have parents who don't recognise you so that's where this came from. Thanks for reviewing again!
