I feel so bad because Alex lost the broom her brother gave her. You know, I'm not liking Diana Grimm--she's always so mean--but I've always been anti-authority to some extent. Although, Alex could've been a little more polite. And what's up with Bonnie? Great chapter.
Finally I'm back. I've been keeping an eye on this book and decided to treat myself by starting to read it today. This is a very interesting start. We've never gotten any insight into the home life of Alex's friends. I almost feel sorry for Anna's mother. While I think it would be wonderful to be married to a magical person, in this case it did seem like she was in prison. Strange that the Aurors think that Anna's father is Dark after he's tried so hard to keep Anna away from Alexandra. Great start to what I'm sure will be a very good read.
So...I'm suspecting Alexandra will be sneaking out to see her father during the Sweetheart Dance. Makes sense. Can't wait to read the conversation between Alexandra and Abraham Thorn. Should be a good chapter. How many more chapters are to go? I'm curious as to where this story is heading...
Author's Response: There are thirty-one chapters, total. Thanks for reviewing!
I have realized why I love reading your fanfiction so much. It is because it is like a book (and a very good one at that).
You've managed to create an entire world - admittedly one *slightly* based off the one J.K.R. created, but so entirely unique and filled with so many new ideas and details that it really is your own - and that is absolutely remarkable. There are relatively few authors who I have found who can do this, and you do it with such pizzazz that it makes me honestly anticipate every chapter (and also makes me wish that you posted every day… maybe even multiple times a day!).
If you were to actually publish a book, I would buy it in a heartbeat (and this is coming from someone who would make Ebenezer Scrooge pre-Christmas ghosts look mildly charitable because yes, I am *that* cheap). I love your writing; the way you manage to weave together so much detail is remarkable and makes me wish I was a writer even half your caliber. Since I have already mentioned weaving, I will make a cheesy metaphor and say that if your writing were a rug, it would be one of those super-fancy ancient Persian ones. (That was supposed to be a compliment, though it probably sounded much, much more flattering in my head.)
I hope I am not coming off as too creep-tastic here. I just wanted to let you know that all the effort you must put into writing this is noted and truly, truly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
Author's Response: Not creepy at all. Thank you very much for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoy my writing so much. What writer doesn't enjoy getting reviews like that? :)
i love the fact that the kings came to tell claudia about all of alex's shannigens what a twist and now diana is taking alex back that is so not good for her i can't wait for the the next chapter
That was sweet...Alexandra has a lot of people in her life she can talk to and rely on, but she doesn't seem to realize that, or want to take advantage of it. Too bad. I'm curious whether she has abandoned the idea of time travel entirely now, and if so, what she might turn to next. The Resurrection Stone is what she really needs...
glad that claudia finally knows but i don't quite believe that is all that they would say. I thnik claudia would have more to say to alex or at least be hurt that she never told her about the kings. great cliff with ms. grimm
Ah, a warm an fuzzy chapter for the winter holidays at home, a chapter that will enable us in future chapters to find out more about Alexandra's past, and a little cliffhanger to boot?! Marvellous.
Very interesting. I have an idea who might have stunned her...
heartbreak. I'm glad she was stopped, and Anna has a point, but still... I feel SO bad for Alex right now.
So Darla stunned her, took her Time Turner, did something with it, and then returned it? That's the way it looks to me, at least. I wonder what she would want to change? Especially since she can't go back too far...
How is Alexandra going to clean up this mess with her friends now? Anna's obviously under a lot of stress right now, but that doesn't necessarily mean she'll forgive Alexandra, even if her father is released from prison and her life becomes a little more normal. Poor girl. Was Alexandra's ability to trust horribly damaged when Brian broke their friendship? Or is it just a permanent personality trait, her tendency to keep her own council?
great chapter!!!! i bet it was anna who stunned alex in the basement, i wonder how the kings will react to alex when she writes and her sister too. alex is getting into sooo much trouble this year
Alex is an idiot. Someone needs to teach her that sometimes 'impossible' really does mean 'impossible' and things aren't just going to be different for her.
I really hope she can sort herself out soon....
One thing I'm slightly puzzled by is that Alex keeps getting prevented from taking the courses she wants to. I know this is a punishment and they wouldn't if she did misbehave, but surely they can't keep doing that? What happens when she can't do more courses on magizoology because she hasn't done the early ones?
wow what a surprise! I thought she was going back so a little disappointed but she couldn't. And the Grimm sisters' discord comes out! Perhaps Darla has a time turner-she wants to save somebody too
I have another question. In the Potterverse, time turners only allow you to go back in time, but we have never seen them bring one back to the future. If Alex tries to go back several months, how does she return to the present? Surely she must fail or this will become a significant problem, right?!
AAAAHHHH!!! I need to find out what happens! Of course Alexandra would get into trouble again; when does she not? Wait a second... that evil spirit that was attacking people at Charmbridge... is that going to be one result of Alexandra's messing with time? I bet it is. Hmmm... but will she be successful? I can't wait for the next chapter!
Alex is up to something stupid ... and will get into lots of trouble in the process. Will Valeria stop her before anyone else discovers the time turner? It just occurs to me that Max's jibai-equivalent could get hold of her before she does anything that silly. After all, the jibai comes from the Land Beyond, so represents the soul of one who did move on yonder.
I can't wait to see Alexandra use that Time-Turner! Somehow, I don't think that her attempt to bring back Max is going to be successful and it is going to break her heart. She's also in for a lot of trouble, I imagine. At school and with her sister...I eagerly await the next chapter. Question: Is Abraham Thorn going to make an appearance in this book? I'm curious what he is going to have to say about Alexandra's exploits this year...
argh!! not a cliff-hanger!!
Hey inverarity! So, I just read through all of the Alexandra Quick books, and i have to say, I LOVE THEM! They are written great, and have a great plot. And, I don't really know who to root against. The Confederation is corrupt, but Abraham Thorn is basically a wizard terrorist. So who are the good guys, and who are the true villians? Anyways, like with Harry Potter, I have SO many questions. So, I am going to ask a few: Do the Charmbridge students have to wear uniforms? Do any of the schools in America have a house system (like Hogwarts)? Will you ever feature Quidditch or Quodpot in the stories (like an actual game)? If you have to make an estimate, about how many students are at Charmbridge?
I also think Lilith Grimm is going to have a bigger role to play, since she is a minor character now. And familiars are a litle confusing to me; the wizard chooses the familiar, right?
Thank you for the review, and I'm glad you like my Alexandra Quick stories. I can answer some of your questions:
"Do the Charmbridge students have to wear uniforms?"
No, they have a dress code, but they don't have a school uniform.
"Do any of the schools in America have a house system (like Hogwarts)?"
A couple of the schools on the East Coast have a sort of house system, but it's not exactly like Hogwarts (they do not magically sort students according to personality traits). You will see one of them in book five.
"Will you ever feature Quidditch or Quodpot in the stories (like an actual game)?"
I don't have a definite plan to do so, but it's possible...
"If you have to make an estimate, about how many students are at Charmbridge?"
Like Rowling, I'm trying not to be pinned down on precise numbers (though I'm better at math than she is). However, I'd say at least a couple hundred, but much less than a thousand.
"I also think Lilith Grimm is going to have a bigger role to play, since she is a minor character now."
Ms. Grimm will have a much more significant role in book four.
"And familiars are a litle confusing to me; the wizard chooses the familiar, right?"
Usually, yes, though some familiars (like cats) have been known to choose the wizard(whether he or she wants to be chosen or not!).
