Chapter: The World According to Severus Snape

I love how you characterized Severus Snape in this fic. True, it includes so mnay personality traits which have become Severus, for instance, his refusal to to accept he’s done enough wrong (pre-Lily’s death), his intense dislike of James, his resentment against Lily, the fact that he could never understand why Lily would like James, that he believed he deserved her and wanted so much more from her, that he hated his life and lastly, the fact that he was a true Slytherin.

Most of these themes are explored in Severus fics, but what set your story apart from others is that it lays his emotions bare while avoiding the tendency to paint him as a tragic hero or a misunderstood villain. For once, Severus is completely honest, almost na´ve in his unflinching assessment of things. But he is not spluttering, he is not throwing a temper. He’s almost resigned in his contemplation, even though the anger, hurt and resentment are bubbling under the surface. And he proves that he never quite understood Lily, in spite of his love for her.

Also, you employed the perfect narrative technique – Severus’ POV, second person narrative. Usually, our judgment gets clouded because it is so hard to empathize with the sulking, vindictive student. And even if the essential point is not lost, it is nice to read an optimistic Severus for once (even though we know his hopes are going to be dashed).

Brilliant work!

That was so poetic! I loved the ending; the power going to his head, the thought that if he joined Voldemort she would come back. It was beautifully written. Keep writing!

Author's Response: Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it.

Hi, You did a wonderful job on your first fanfic! I thought it was totally brillant!
Severus will always pine for Lily, even up to the day he died. I'm sure, if James Potter was'nt around, Snape and Lily would have been together.
I am a Snape fan, and have been since reading Deathly Hallows, and even before that. I could see that he was'nt a bad person, just misunderstood, and everyone thought he was just nasty.
He was just hurting, that's all.
Once again, great story and good luck with your next one, if you plan to do another. ;0)

Author's Response: Thank you! You're right, misunderstood certainly is a good way to describe Snape.

Wow. This was really good! The only other author who has been able to make me feel BADLY for Snape is MagEd, and even then it wasn't that bad.

This made me feel horrible for hating him. You really captured his thinking, how he was always dealt the bad hand at life, and how if he was powerful, Lily might love him. I can't believe I'm saying this, but poor Severus.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm not really sure what else to say to that... but I'm glad I helped you see Snape's life from a different perspective.

umm....I have one thing to say about this....it's AWESOME!! And you were doubting yourself *shakes head*....shame on you haha....I really did like the format of this, and your characterization was good as well! Keep writing wonderful stories like this! I will pass the message on to Lexie and Malsin to read this, and I know they will like it as well! My favourite line was "It didn’t just pull the carpet out either; it pulled a whole three storeys." - very well written and informative....not quite the word I was looking for, but I hope you understand....Anyway, enough of my rambling, great story Rhet, and hopefully we shall be hearing more from you! Love Swanne!

Author's Response: Thanks heaps, and I'm glad you liked it :D I don't think it's really my usual style, but it was how the idea came to me so it was how I had to write it. *shrug* I hope you'll hear more from me too :p
