Chapter: Drifting (In Between Insanity)

Hi, I've already reviewed, but I am just letting you know I nominated this for a QSQ under best general story. This is what I wrote

Reason for Nomination:
Drifting, drifting, drifting, as if in a dream... In this oneshot, Potterworm explores the notion that between the insanity caused by torture, Alice Longbottom experiences moments of awareness. Providing the heartbreakingly authentic voice of a women no longer in control of her own life, Potterworm shows not only Alice's struggle, but her undying love for her son and husband. The writing itself paints a shadowed portrait of what has become of Alice, allowing readers to fill in their own information as well as make assumptions of the times she is 'drifting'. Bringing both sorrow and hope, this moving original story definitely deserves recognition.

Author's Response: I've not been on this website in quite a while, so I literally just saw this review right now.  I want to thank you whole-heartedly for your kind words about my story.  I nearly teared up when I saw what you wrote.  Thank you.  That being said, what on earth is the QSQ?

Beautifully-done. I, too, enjoyed the ending. I also appreciated the part where Mrs. Longbottom says she is insane and she is sane. I think that is rather profound. Deceptively so. cj

Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked reading Drifting, and I'm especially glad you appreciated the insane but sane line, as I feel it really summed up the story, in a sad sort of way.  Thanks for reading and reviewing.

This was a beautiful, well told story.

I always thought Alice was sane in her own mind too!

I'd love to see a story about her meeting her grandkids......

Well done.

9.9/10

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it.  Maybe one day I will do a sequel, though for now I plan to keep it like it is.  Thanks for reading and reviewing.

It made me cry.

What a powerful and moving story. All the time I was wishing that Alice would come back to reality and speak to Neville, yet I knew she wouldn't because that is not reality. *Sniff* This was a tough thing to write but the result was fantastic. Great ending too- very powerful :)

Author's Response: Part of me really wanted to make Alice get better, but that would have been selling out.  She isn't destined to have a happy ending.  Still, I'm glad you appreciate the ending and the story as a whole.  Thank you for reading and reviewing.

aww . . . this nearly had me in tears. I can totally imagine it happening. You wrote it very well, too. I loved the ending.

Author's Response: I'm glad it pulled at your heart-strings, and I'm especially glad you liked the ending.  (That was one of my favorite parts to write.)  Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Wow. That was so sweet. I was so sad to read about Neville's visits, when she didn't recognize him . . . My only criticism is that I think you could've done a better job portraying Alice's insanity. Through most of it she just seemed like a normal person who couldn't speak and was only conscious once every few years. But apart from that, this was very well written.

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it.  I understand your critique too.  When I first started writing this, I considered making her seem more insane, but in the end I decided to merely show her lucid moments and leave her insane moments as more of a mystery.  Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Very very good. I can believe that this happened.

Author's Response: Thanks. I'm glad you liked it and found it believable. I always found Alice's fate in canon to be far too depressing, so that's why I wrote this. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

This story was so sweet. Poor Alice. I like how you expressed her view on knowing her son is alive and how she was able to react when Neville to them Voldemort was defeated.

Author's Response:

Aw, I'm glad you liked it.  The ending when Neville tells her Voldemort is dead was a last minute addition to the story, so I'm very glad you liked it.  Thanks for reading and reviewing.
