He blindly falls in love with a strange woman and listens to her over his own sister? Darwin would say, 'Let him die'.

But it is easy to see why Deer Women became such a terrifying legend among the Native American people.

It seems like Em's warning has more meaning than at first glance.

Also makes me wonder more about Darla now. Is she too doing what her father or family wants? Does Darla's family oppose the current regime?

I like the back story to this. It has a lot of potential.

I think your writing is the best I've read on this site. The Alexandra Quick series is great. Please tell us you've got the third installment ready to go after AQATLB is done getting posted!

OH MY GOSH! NO HOW CAN YOU LEAVE SUCH AN ENDING!!! wow wow wow. I did not expect that Darla and John will find them. I liked how she is asking questions in class. CAN"T WAIT! YOU NEED TO UPDATE (btw thanks for updating as quickly as you do, we just need it faster)

I have to say that this is a totally enthralling series. The world you have made is so much darker than JKR's. You have given it a distinctly American cast, with its own prejudices, aspirations, mythology and misdeeds. Bravo.

This chapter is outstanding, a real cliffhanger. I can't wait to read more.

Alex is certainly as stubborn as ever, and it seems she may have inherited this from her father. They've trained and think they're prepared. I'm betting neither of them is prepared and it's not going to be a pleasant trip. Let's just hope both survive. If you plan on writing any more stories about Alex we know she'll survive. I'm hoping Max makes it back also.

Oh my gosh, I made the mistake of reading this on my lunch break at work because now I'm going to be distracted all day!!! And I apologize right now for the excessive use of exclamation points.... :)

Alex is amazing and fantastic! Bravo to her for standing up to her father like that! I can't wait to see what she asks of him...well...actually, I can. What a cliffie! I'll be more than satisfied seeing what awaits them in the Lands Below! Even Charlie is nervous! I hope we find out what is going on with Darla, because she is still so wrapped up in the Mors Society. Oh, great great great chapter!

really great backstory, totally believable. I think Alex is maturing a little because she didn't tell him right away about the obdoi (sp), I am presuming that is the method she is talking about it. I don't like the confederation and I don't like Thorn so what side to take?

This is reaaaaally juicy... Why, oh, why did you have to make a cliffie here!!!????

That's just too damn close to torture!!!

I'm agonizing to read more!

so she gives the obol to a house elf, who takes her to the Lands Below? she's not going to like forcing her friends to do that- i bet she'll choose a different elf, but it's still not going to be a light decision for her. will she go? of course- she's Alexandra. should she go? of course not! but that's never stopped her before. i don't think she'll rush in this time- but what will force her hand? my bet is that Darla will be mixed into it somewhere. can't wait to read more!

Something makes me wonder if Max is a double agent. I find it surprizing that earlier he told Alex he would tell Dean Grimm what he was doing when Alex got hurt by John.

As far as the darkness goes, I don't think Alex is all that dark. She may understand it but I think she has made her choices and has already decided where she will draw the line.

Max on the other hand does struggle with it and assumes that everyone else does as well. I wonder if in the past, Max felt as innocent as he thinks Julia is and somehow that got shattered. I feel this is why he wants to protect his family--so they don't experience that anguish.

I smell Alex doing something really stupid again.

Wow - you've really hammered out the American wizard mythology here. I'm very impressed - very believable and fascinating. And it's a nice change getting some answers instead of questions! However, the hard thing with chapters like this is nothing much -happens- (and I almost wish the interrogation scene was beefed up a little more) - so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what's in store for our favorite siblings in the next chapter.

Alex is getting smarter. Maybe she'll make it to 14!
She is still way to independent for her own good. The fact she hasn't really had much choice but to be indedepent doesn't help. A mother who wants nothing to do with the world her daughter has joined. A father who insists he loves her but 'sorry we can't have a real relationship because the law wants to kill me or put me in a wizard prison for the rest of my life' doesn't exactly bode well.
Her brother is trying to protect her from her father and herself.

I have a suspicion that Alex hearing Hagar flapping around her window was not totally accidental. In fact I could almost vow 'Daddy' knew all along how convicing Alex could be with Max.

That Machiavelian man was actually trying to coerce Max into letting Alex know... and then, Ooopsy! Look, she found out herself and even did HIS dirty job herself!!

Plus, there's the 'he did not look quite as surprized as she expected him to be'... Don't like it one bit.

Anyway, mistrut towards Abe Thorn included, loved the chap!!

I like this subtle change in Alex, her reasoning and her 'dark side' as well. She might make a fine lawyer... those were quite on the spot arguments!!

As usual, can't wait to read more!! Kuddos!!!
Masterpiece as usual...

NOOO! Not a cliffhanger!! Poor Max. Alex is too convincing for her own good.
