Chapter: Chapter Nine: Chanukah Revelations

This is really good, though you did forget Yom kipper the most important holiday of the year. Also wouldn't the men and women sit apart in synagogue in a community that Jewish.
I really like the way you described Tzipporah's struggle with maintaining a Jewish Identity while still assimilating into the wizarding world. While this is an issue that can be looked at in this time period I feel that it is something that American Jews struggle with every day, especially those of us who are not blessed to live near a Jewish community. This story brings a critical point in Jewish history and combines it with a timeless Jewish theme.

PS AP test are very important, I have basically skipped a year of college, Thank you college board.

Yet another brilliant chapter. I'm so glad Zippie doesn't have to hide who she truly is anymore, from her friends at least. It never crossed my mind before how Hogwarts seems to be christian and there are so many other religions out there. I mean apart from muggle born witches and wizards, does the wizarding world follow different religions? Anyway, can't wait to see what's to come, oh and the bird was a lovely gift, hope one of them realises Zippie's name means bird.

I know I've reviewed before, but I still have more things to say XD

LOVELY chapter! I love how Tzipporah still manages to remain faithful to her religion, despite everything else. I totally agree with her: one of the most magical things is hearing the synagogue chanting the prayers. A beautiful thing ,to matching this beautiful story :D

Another lovely chapter! I'm glad you've allowed us to enjoy these rather " light" days, because we know darker things will be coming. Can't wait for the next installment. Shalom

Chapter: Chapter Eight: Beneath the Stars

Another excellent chapter in a wonderful story. I hope you can continue this for a long time. BTW did I miss Yom Kippur? I remember reading about Rosh Hashanah but not the Day of ATonement.

Author's Response: Everyone seems extremely worried about the fact that I skipped Yom Kippur. No, I didn't forget the order of the Jewish holidays. I simply decided to sort of mush it into Rosh Hashana (note the line where Tzipporah apologzies to God for committing the sin of lying to her friends) because if I made a chapter for every single holiday this story would be too long. Plus, I really want to get to Tu B'shvat ASAP, but you'll have to wait and see why. And for all you reviewers who insist on repeating the Yom Kippur question, this is the last time I'll answer it.

Chapter: Chapter Eight: Beneath the Stars

Somehow I was expecting poor Tziporah to get caught out of bounds, and have to "come out", so what happened on Yom Kippur? How does one fast while the rest of the school is going?

Author's Response: I skipped Yom Kippur because it comes so soon after Rosh Hashana, and I'm really trying to keep this story from getting too long (at this point its about 15 chapters, and that's enough). I couldn't let Tzipporah get caught because I need her to be outside for Tu B'shvat...hehe, I won't say why. About the fasting: I figured Tzipporah could just lie to Millie and Clarice and say she'd eaten already if they asked. They'd probably be suspicious, but Zippie's used to that.

Excellent! A really nice surprise to get an update so soon. I like how you integrated the newspaper story, and how it was Zippie who put the pieces together, perhpas she realised the sorting hat's meaning because she was much closer to the situation than the other girls. It's nice to see a student who isn't either perfect at everything or completely hopeless. The fact that she's brilliant at wand work and not so good with Potions and History of Magic is a real comfort. A long time ago or so it seems when I was at school, I was good at maths and science but hopeless with essays in English and History despite liking both subjects. My brother said anyone can write essays but that's just because he can. Anyway, side tracked again. I think Edward Potter should've perhaps told somebody about Zippie being asleep outside, I mean what if some wild beast from the forest attacked her in the middle of the night, or she got sick, it is october after all. Maybe his curiosity will get the better of him and he'll catch her in the library one day and ask what she's been up to. Perhaps he'd help her plan for the next holiday, give her an alibi or find her a more secure area to worship in. Anyway, love the story, good luck with the tests and even if the next update isn't until June i know it'll be worth waiting for.

Chapter: Chapter One: The Letter

yay for Jews!! i really like how this story is starting out. and you are very good at being discriptive, and even at parts that arent too important, you make it interesting to read (Tzipporah looknig out the winodw ans what she sees). i think this is going to be a great story, especillay being new on mugglenet!

Chapter: Prologue

If Edward and Zippie got married, that would mean James would be half-Jewish (or Jewish if we go by the Jewish law that a person born to a Jewish mother is considered Jewish). Harry would be one-quarter Jewish in addition to being a half-blood (I've always found the Harry Potter series to have Jewish parallels, despite JK's Christian faith).

How many chapters do you plan on writing for Challah and Pumpkin Juice?

Author's Response: Hmmm...could Tzipporah and Edward be James' parents and Harry's grandparents? Ah, the mysteriousness of it all! rnrnI originally planned for 12 chapters (not counting the prologue and epilogue) but since I've had to split some of them because of their length it's developed into more like 15.

Ah ha! So a Potter is involved! It's possible, then, that Tzippora is related to Harry...or not. Oh the mystery!

M'kay, I know I reviewed before, but I have more things to say now XD

THIS IS BRILLIANT! Aside from the fact that this is a totally original idea, you're writing is absolutely awesome! The story is very interesting and captivating, and I can't WAIT till the next chapter! You rock everyone's socks XD

Author's Response: I do love rocking people's socks...and I'm so glad you like my story. It's my first fanfic, so I was worried nobody would read it. But I want to take this chance to say thank you to all my reviewers, because your comments make me soooo happy!

Chapter: Chapter Seven: Rosh Hashana

I don't know why but I'm getting the feeling that Zippie is Harry's Grandmother. It's probably not the point of your fic and I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, I just can't shake it.

Author's Response: I want to tell you so badly if your prediction is right or not...but I won't, simply because I feel that would diminish the ending. Just wait, read, and see!

Chapter: Chapter Seven: Rosh Hashana

This story is getting better and better .Just one question. shouldn't Yom Kippur come after Rosh Hashanah or is that just too hard to write.

Author's Response: You are quite right - Yom Kippur should come next. But I decided to kind of skip over it since they're so close together, and because so much of Yom Kippur has to do with the congregation (I mean, can you imagine Tzipporah getting out her shofar and trying to find a place in Hogwarts where no one would hear it?) But I did slip in the line about her repenting of her sin of lying. That's about as much as I could do.

Chapter: Chapter Six: Symbols and Lies

Oh poor Zippie, it's so awful having to hide who she truly is especially when she's so devoted. Can't wait to find out what the swastica at Hogwarts meant. And what does Millie suspect about Zippie? I'm afraid I'm getting used to these regular updates, so keep them coming, please...

Author's Response: The swastika at Hogwarts is foreshadowing to the climax of this story, but I won't say any more than that. As for the regular updates...I'd love to promise that they'll keep coming, but I've got AP tests and finals and SATs and all that good stuff coming up, so I can't. But I do have up to chapter 11 written, so when my life gets less crazy I'll start submitting again. Chapter seven, which I just submitted, will probably be the last chapter til late June.

I do love this dad is jewish but doesn't practice, so I don't really know a lot of the particulars of the rituals and such. it is interesting following along with that, and the keeping kosher, and also matching up with the potterverse history. way cool!
