Chapter: Beauty for Ashes

I think I'm becoming and Angst junkie. This is what you've done to me!
Amazing, amazing, amazing!

Author's Response: Aw, thanks, but resist becoming a junkie. A little angst here and there reminds you to appreciate the good in life. Too much and you need anti-depressants. :P

Chapter: Beauty for Ashes

I'm not sure how I ended up here tonight but I wanted to get past this and move on. I knew it would be sad and it was. I felt such pain for Snape--losing two women he loved, both at the hands of Voldemort. Part of me did feel good that Severus lived. I really see what you mean about convincing the reader of the truth of what you're writing. I now look at that whenever I read something. I really do believe that Severus could have lived and gone into hiding and that he could have only let Harry see some of his memories related to Lily. I felt especially sad as he thought of taking care of little Teddy and raising him and preparing him for Hogwarts. I think that part broke my heart the most for some reason. I wonder if a small part of Severus wonders what might have been if he had tried to contact Tonks that night. It seems like he had several possible moments to contact her and he didn't--for very good reasons. Even though this was sad I think I might return and read it again sometime. Excellent story.

Author's Response:

Where there's life, there's hope, right? I think Severus could've fallen for a village woman (not voluntarily, she would be brought to the "apothecary" to cure wounds from an attack of a possible werewolf, causing him to deal with his fears on many levels) and one day seen his own son watching him from the cot.

Absolutely, he had to wonder "what if"....or "if only" like the poem from the book Holes.

So sad. :( So cute. :) I always thought of...Severus...as a complete bitch, no other side, nothing. But I guess he always had that other side that he showed to Draco, and a different side he let Lily see, and another for every other person in his life. I mean, it's not like he hated everyone. *squeal* Yay! I totally love you for showing me the fifty different sides of fifty different people (though not necessarily in this fic--just in general)

Author's Response: Thank you for being willing to see different sides of people! I had a long time reader who hated Snape, told me I was wrong when I said Jo would show he wasn't a Black Hat one day, and even when she read DH still couldn't stand to read him characterized as anything but nasty, so not everyone is as lovely and open minded as you!

You brought tears to my eyes...that was so sad. I could never have seen a Snape/Tonks ship working before, but this changed my mind. I read the 3 preludes before this...and loved them all. I'm glad you left Remus and Tonks to be together though...although you made Snape seem a perfect match..I always believe they truly belong together. You are a very talented writer, great job. :D

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Mysti!

Remus and Tonks are my one true pairing (I have a series of stories to prove it, :D) but I think that in an alternate dimension of the Potterverse, under the right circumstances, Tonks and Snape would have been a good match. Like Remus, Severus needs someone to love him for everything he is, Dark and Light. As Shakespeare said, Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds....

I never liked Snape before DH, but now, its nice to believe that he might have been able to live after the battle. I never thought of Snape truly loving anyone after Lilly, perhaps having relationships, but never loving any... But your story is very believable. I could imagine it, and I loved that Snape loved Tonks enough to put up with Teddy. Fantastic Job!

Author's Response:

Really? Not even a little? :D

Thank you for giving the story a chance and loving the idea that Snape could love more than once in a lifetime.

wow....this has got to be one of the most amazing stories i've ever read. can i ask a question without soundind totally cheesy and without sounding like i'm just trying to disguise a complement? how do you come up with this stuff? it's amazing, beautiful, poetry almost. i always love to read your stories. do a favor for your most loyal reader ok? never stop writing.

Author's Response:

You're sweet, not cheesy! I was in the teen fiction section of a bookstore today, looking at all the titles and wondering how the h-e-double hockeysticks I'm going to get an agent interested in a novel that isn't about vampires or gossipy girls, so you've helped me keep my resolve to write and not worry. Thank you for that!

Ideas are everywhere, books, news articles, family, friends, strangers in a restaurant....thank you for the compliment (nothing wrong with those!) and most of all for the encouragement!

Author's Response: Thank you for having a tender heart and crying! I cried so hard I had to tell people allergies were flaring!

Oh my gosh, that was so sad. But really good at the same time! This definetly going in my favorites!

Author's Response: I tried so hard to go AU, to have Tonks show up at the end, but I couldn't do it. She belongs with Remus, even if in this one dimension I wish it could have been different.

Ooooh. Sad. But good, as always.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for giving this pairing a chance! I've read that a cynic is just a frustrated romantic. That seems to fit Severus. He pretends not to care for anyone and anything, but Jo showed that he has feelings too!

It's nice to think Snape would have an escape plan, but not if he ends up alone again. This was really well written, but made me feel quite sad for him.

Author's Response: It is sad, but I can't help it, I hate the thought of him spending his whole life waiting to 'join' the childhood love who never truly returned his feelings. At the same time, Tonks and Remus belong together, so I wanted him to escape...and mourn...and one day find a new love to share the rest of his life with. :)

Wow. I never in a million years would have imagined Tonks and Snape together, but this story just blew me away. I can't wait to read the two stories you mentioned above. Great job!

Author's Response: They're definitely a "rare pair" :D, but in the right dimension of the Potterverse, in the right circumstances, they work! Thank you!

Gosh! I cried so bad!
I love when you do this sort of thing! Making a bridge between Jo's world, yours Sev/Tonks and R/T fics.
I always have problems by doing that
That only shows how brilliant you're for this!!! XD
Keep the amazing work!

Author's Response: Thank you! (I loved the eyes!) In the R/T fics, Evan was her Slytherin first love, but I could see Tonks being attracted to Snape. Lots of women are, whether they admit or not, LOL. If I could have found a way to make it believable that Tonks lived when Remus didn't, I might have saved us both a few tears, but I couldn't. They belong together, she made her choice, and Severus did too. He chose to live, and I hope one day will choose to allow love back into his life.

*sniff* good story, although i still think that lily was the only woman that snape ever loved! but i do think that snape is still alive!!

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm sure Jo will say he never loved anyone else, but since Snape wouldn't be giving Harry memories of Tonks, and she sure wouldn't have shared that tidbit of personal information, their romance could have happened. That "what if?" is all a writer needs to be inspired to write a story. :)

It made me cry; it's so sad. This is the first Sev/Tonks I've ever read, and it will probably be the best I'll ever read.

Author's Response: Thank you for crying with me! I kept hearing John Mayer's Dreaming with a Broken Heart while writing this.

When you're dreaming with a broken heart

The waking up is the hardest part

You roll out of bed and down on your knees

And for a moment you can hardly breathe

Wondering: was she really here?

Is she standing in my room?

No, she's not...

'Cause she's gone gone gone gone gone

*sniff*

Author's Response: Remus and Tonks are my one true pairing, so I'll never believe she would turn from Remus to any other man, but before she met Remus, she could love someone else, and never forgetting Snape or or hoping he was okay!

That last sentence gave me the shivers. Severus/Nymphadora is very believable, especially with your explanation. You're an extraordinary author, and you better update For Bitter or For Worse soon! ;)

Author's Response: Thank you! I think with the right set of circumstances, almost anything is possible, so I appreciate the compliment and I won't let Halloween hangover keep me from writing G/A! :)

Fantastic! I've always liked/hated Severus. After Harry, he's the best written character in the books. And I love the idea that he found a way to cheat death at Moldyshort's hands.

Author's Response: Thank you! I always loved his snarkiness while disliking the way he treated Harry, and wanted Severus to be a redeemable gothic hero. Instead of being flawed and doomed, I wanted him to be flawed and allowed to live!

Its beautiful... I was hoping that Severus might survive... not for Tonks though! :D

Author's Response: Jo never said they retrieved the body and had a funeral, did she? :D If I had the time, I'd write a Severus falls for a village woman story, but since I don't, I'll just imagine it and smile!

Thats so horrbly sad. I was actully hoping for a Happy go lucky ending for Severus!
I still enjoyed it thou.

Author's Response: Thank you! I had a friend remind me that Severus has phoenix tears running through him...he can rise from the ashes and love again. That's a very comforting thought! :)

Noooooooooo......

I am so not looking forward to this point in time in your remus/tonks fics...you will probably make me cry. and I don't cry.

this really hurts. the bit about the phoenix tears is...well, interesting. i kinda like it.

Author's Response: I swear, as Merlin is my witness, that I will never kill off Tonks and Remus in my dimension of the Potterverse!

Okay, Scarlett moment over, heh, the tears I shed for this story are all I'm giving for canon. My DH story will end before the battle, and then after that, AU here I come!

Thanks for liking the phoenix tears angle. I can see Severus negotiating with Dumbledore until he got them! :D
