Chapter: They Shook His Hand with a Clenched Fist

Right, well, now I'm miserable.

Consider it a compliment of the highest order. Draco's unspoken thoughts had an incredible, painful simplicity, an earnest and fading desire for things to be different even if he didn't have much to live for, and that made me hurt.

That last bit there was the worst, right as he was dying alone, and Harry with Ron and Hermione at least at his side, and the healer having been too late, too late by just a little bit. The mention of the rain at the beginning and end was particularly appropriate.

Would say cheers, but can't. Good story, though.

Author's Response: *dances* I love reviewers kind enough to leave their two-cents long after the fic's been posted. You rock. Thanks so much for reading. I'm sorry you're miserable... actually, I'm not. I like making people miserable! I'm so glad you read this and enjoyed it. *huggles*

This story is simply amazing! It is so touching that I really can't think of a thing to nit-pick!

It hurts…

It hurts…

Hold my hand…

That really made me cry, I'm not kidding. It was bloody brilliant!

I do want to know why didn't they ever trust Draco? In some fics, authors choose for them to fully embrace Draco when he switches sides, but here you have him portrayed kind of like an outsider. What prompted you to do that?

Anywhos, excellent story (horrible review >.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! I'm so happy you liked the story. :D Hmm... I'm not quite sure what made me portray him like that. Maybe I'm not the kind of person who looks on the bright side of things? :p I've read a lot of Draco redemption stories, and though I've always loved them, it was hard to believe that Harry and Co. would accept him so easily. This is a redemption story. Draco did change sides. He did help defeat Voldemort. But his new "friends" didn't trust him completely. Severus Snape had changed sides too - and I think only Dumbledore really trusted him. The other adult members of the Order might've trusted him slightly, but only because of Dumbledore, and I think there was always some doubt in their minds about Severus. So when he "killed" Dumbledore, no one had any trouble labelling him the enemy. I think I took that, and changed it a little and used it in the case a Draco. :)

Beautifully written, I absolutly adored it. I loved the symbolic nature that the rain took on, and the contrast between Draco and Harry was pulled off brilliantly.

I think the word choice and sentence flow was pulled off quite well. A very beautiful piece, congradulations.

Author's Response: Thank you!

I would like to complement you on your amazing story. It is both brilliant and tragic at the same time. The characterization is done flawlessly and the transitions between Malfoy’s thoughts and the rest of the story is done flawlessly. It is endearing, in a way, how Draco is so human. Overall, this is an absolutely beautiful story to read. Congratulations on a job that surpasses “well done”!

Author's Response: Thanks, I'm overjoyed that you liked it. :)

This is a very touching story. I like your use of the weather in both negative and positie context-rain washes away the past to make way for the future. The last sentence was really touching. The characters' behaviour toward Draco was written very well - definitely a favorite story of mine!

Author's Response: Thanks so much!

This fic was amazing. Truly one of the best I've ever read (it's already on my favourites).

I've read so many fics about Draco and especially his redemption. But this possibility was so terrible and real. This possibility that he had given up so much and died a hero for the "right" side, but was never trusted or missed in the end.

Because, in the end, this fic shows that we are all human and that we do deserve a comforting hand. But so many people never experience that, and it's a tragedy in itself.

This was perfect and moving beyond words. I especially love this line:

Even at the end, only the heavens wept.

I hope his mother was there to greet him after his death.

Thank you so much for writing this!

Author's Response: You're very welcome, and thank you for the lovely review! And I hope his mother was there too. Someone to comfort him - if not in life, then after life, right?

How awesome was that?!

This is an absolutely horribly good, tear-jerkingly awesome fic. The way in which you display emotion is wonderful. It's amazing how much of a grip you have on human nature.

It's so true; we're all human in the end. And you don't really realize it until you're in this great tradgedy, and you miss comfort. Draco deserved a comforting hand as he died, like everyone else on that battlefield who was dying and missed their loved ones.

This is an amazing story, and it's changed my perspective on the value of life and how I treat others.

Thank you for such a wonderful insight!

Author's Response: What a wonderful review, thank you so much! I'm giddy with joy that you caught the emotion perfectly and managed to catch the point of the story - more than just about Draco, it's about all each and every one of US. Thanks again!

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. The writing was utterly compelling, and the story... so sad.
