Thank you for bringing a smile to my face. I'm so glad Professor Snape was nice to Dobby, even if it was mostly to keep him quiet. I am having a hard time imagining Snape in those PJ's though, at least Neville's Gran's dress had been green, a slytherin colour. I wonder if the ridicule would be worse over the PJ's than it was over Neville's Boggart? Hmm, what a thought. Anyway, great happy fic.
Oh, I loved it. I love Snape. And Dobby. I don't think Snape was OOC at all, especially after reading DH.
It made me very sad when Snape was thinking about how people did not like his presents when he was a little boy, because I have felt like that sometimes. He was nice to decide to wear Dobby's present. This is a good story.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like the story. Though Snape is often difficult to get along with, I think he got that way because he was rejected. Nobody wants to make or buy a gift for someone they love and have that person reject the gift, and the love the giver has. Snape would accept such a gift because really, he's a good guy.
Oh, how utterly charming! I think you have caught several things very well here - Dobby's character, for one, and Snape's grasp of it, for another, but also that these character's lives do not entirely revolve around the fraught moments - that those lives involve underwear, and pajamas and tedious notes to the staff - all the sorts of minute details that we all deal with.
I especially like three things. One is the note from Madam Pomfrey ( especially "embedding strawberry pilonidal pox" ); another is the touching moment when Snape recalls giving presents as a child, and the third is Minerva's question. Why does she ask? Is there something interesting about those Snapes? Are they Wizarding Snapes? Will we hear more of them, someday?
So, he has some students who give him gifts as well. Now that would be interesting to explore...what on earth would a child decided to give Professor Snape?
I'm sorry, I really could go on and on, I enjoy so many things about this. There are a few nits I might pick, but they really are just nits and it is Christmas, so no, I am afraid I can't.
Author's Response: Well, thank you! I love writing about Professor Snape. Actually, I just enjoy thinking about Snape. He's so interesting. He's so stickery on the outside, I have always had this feeling that somewhere inside, there must be a core, no matter how little or how well-protected, that understands hurt feelings. And the pajamas... Oh, when I saw the photo of the official Yorkshire tartan, I knew--I just knew someone who had to wear it! And you can pick nits. Owing to the MNFF's new thingie, I'm cautious about how much I correct, or I end up with huge gaps between paragraphs, but I never seem to catch all my oddities.
Oh no! You didn't! Bright yellow and blue pj's? *pictures a horrified Snape in Ravenclaw colors ... giggles madly while family looks on in puzzlement* I loved it! Only Dobby would think of gifting the Potions Master with that!
Author's Response: Oh, and I wish I could put in a link to the actual Yorkshire tartan! Bright yellow! Nice bright blue!
Brilliant! Snape in blue and yellow pyjamas! Excellent!
Author's Response: Well, thanks!
Ha! I can see this turning into a humor fic at the expense of snape...for a mo there, i really thought dobby gave him boxers! ha!
Author's Response: But what's better than boxer shorts? After all, boxers can be covered! Jammies are just out there for the world to see, if one wanders out of one's room... (snicker)
heh heh, very good...although I can't imagine Snape having a Yorkshire accent, I've got a Yorkshire accent myself as I'm from North Yorkshire , and I can tell you that it would be pretty funny =)
But he said that his fathers family were from Yorkshire, so that doesn't have to mean that he's from there himself...or whatever...now i'm getting all confused...
Anyway, you've done a cracking job, and I love the way you've portrayed Snape (my favourite character) as slightly more human than people usualy do.
Keep up the fantastic work, and good luck in the future.
Author's Response: I think Snape's my favorite character, too. There's a lot to him. And with his father's family from Yorkshire... well, perhaps Snape picked up his patterns of speech from his mum! But the tartan's gonna getcha eventually.
*giggles* Hi! *waves* I really liked this story. I agree with the other reviewers that your Dobby was very good and completely believable. Snape in yellow and blue pajamas is quite a funny thought, in case you didn't realize. ;P Again, great story!
Author's Response: Thanks, Chrissy! Yeah, I have to admit I love those PJs, and they're so much better with Snape's horrified face sticking out of the top!
This was very cute. Your Dobby was very well done. That does sound like something he would do. Although, I'll admit, when I read the title, I thought Snape would be getting boxer shorts. Anyway, this was very well done. :D
Author's Response: Ah, well, doesn't everybody get boxer shorts? (Well, I don't, but then again...) But tartan pajamas... now that's special. I think Dobby has excellent taste!
Lovely job! This totally made me smile, you did a great job with Dobby. I thought for sure he was going to give Snape new underwear as well, but the new pajamas were cute. Nice job with Snape's reactions to it all. Thanks so much for writing this story, I really enjoyed reading it! *turnip hug* Happy Holidays! ~Gina :)
Author's Response: Yay! I was hoping to make some readers smile! I love thinking of Snape in a situation like that. Aww... poor Snape!
That was very interesting. Very nice way of portraying Dobby - you could totally imagine him doing that. All hail the OOC Snape!
Author's Response: That's what I got such a giggle over. I could just see Dobby. I wish I always laughed so much writing a story!
