This. Is. Canon. No matter what anyone says this will alway's be my Canon Snape. You have never left me feeling disapointed in any part of your stories and I have more faith in you than in a certain author that I "used" to love. Thank you for being able to handle such a complex character, and being able to give him credit where it is due.
your writing style has captivated me since I started reading your work and I hope to see even greater things from you.
I dunno, but your Severus just makes me want to go there and confort and hug him. Such terrible things have hapened to him!
I like it how you have him open up to Ginny, and how he trusts her, and how she doesn't pull away. Thanks so much for sharing such a piece of art!
One of my favorite stories of yours is the one about Lucius and Molly. I like the reference here.
Oh, VV, you have done it again. You do it every time. You are amazing. It is the tiny, tiny details, the tiny thoughts of Severus' mind, that make your story so savor-able. Mmm. I savor every chapter of every story - and, I must admit, I have reread several chapters of this one, just to taste them again!!!
You rock my world. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write a book. I know it takes money to hide away & write - but please find a way to do it!!!!!!!!
(I also realize that it is nothing short of EVIL to use multiple exclamation points. But surely there is a loophole for Muppets, and people like them. I am very Muppety ... so perhaps you will forgive the prolif. of punctuaysh.???) [a little phoneticness there ... just feeling whimsical ... sorry!]
The trial kept my intereset throughout.
Ginny's questioning and Snape's replies were excellent.
Wow! This story, and your writing generally, are absolutely fantastic! I just discovered you on MuggleNet a few months ago, and have been wanting ever since to write you the most enormous mash note. I was so blown away by the Severus in Profile series—it completely took over my consciousness for the whole stretch that I was reading it (twice)….in the end, I went into serious mourning for Lily, you brought her to life so well. And your Severus….as so many of your readers have said, the depth and beauty and complexity and psychological authenticity of the character as you’ve reimagined him has become the *real* character for me, a real *person*, and if Rowling ends up deviating from what you’ve said….well, she’s got it wrong, that’s all. All his twisted-up, furious, sardonic awfulness is there, but made completely human and tragic and funny and powerfully sympathetic….sigh!!!
The relationship between Severus and Lily was unbelievably beautiful and touching, and you handled it with such nuanced grace…an amazing, vivid portrait of a friendship, so very real, never sappy or “canned,” absolutely heartbreaking in the end….and you’re phenomenal at making it all work within canon bounds.
Normally I can’t even bear fan fiction (sorry, folks!!….I actually stumbled onto your work while searching out online arguments that Lily and Severus might have been friends)…I’m too much of a serious lit fan (snobby professor type—sorry, sorry) and just love beautiful writing too much to handle anything else (also, have to read too much amateur writing while grading…and boy, have you got the angst of THAT experience down cold…made me laugh MANY times). But your writing *as* writing is just so damn gorgeous! Beautifully crafted, elegant, evocative,
incredibly well-paced, never self-indulgent….and so very witty. And, wow, the emotional punch!! I can’t tell you how many times I’d just stop and read a sentence over and over, literally unable to breathe. AND you’re so incredibly prolific!!!
I’ve been waiting anxiously for each new installment of A Different Sort of Peace….I’d keep reading if there were 20 more chapters… please tell me there’s at least one more, to bring a bit more closure for Severus and Ginny….
In any case, please, please, please, keep writing!! I’d love to read anything you write. You absolutely, positively SHOULD be publishing original work!! And thanks so much for sharing this with the world…you really have a gift.
Keep going! I'd love to hear the rest of the testimonies, Lupin and Lucius. Great story!!! How do people (Harry!) react to Severus being set free?
Is Luna...er...dead? I'm so afraid she'll die in DH anyway, :(
Sigh, I still can't accept a Ron/Draco pairing, but I guess I'll just have to take it with your stories :)
*dies a little* What a relief! When I read the previous chapter I was, for a little while, worried that that was it... But then I realised you'd never leave us hanging like that.
So the trial is over and Severus is free. Yay! But... does that mean we won't get to hear from dear Lucius after all? And I was so looking forward to seeing him testify... What would the maddened Lucius of Azkaban have to say about poor Severus' misfortunes that could be even remotely helpful?
Waiting eagerly for the next chapter.
Oh! Excellent! *rolls on floor* Thank you! I know one is supposed to leave more coherent reviews, so I'll try. You have the great novelist touch, and I hope you're still working on your original fiction.
Ah, that makes my heart happy. Wonderful writing, as usual.
Aww this made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
Thanks. I'm glad he's not dead (as I feared after the last chapter).
Throughout your stories, you have written a Snape with such a tragic life. I hope that there is some reward now alongside of his redemption ... and not just more isolation and solitary confinement outside of the prison walls.
Yea! You made my day!
Woah... A month! Wow... But he's free now! Finally! :) I love seeing his "awakening" and I hope to hear more than the "summary" soon! Plus, I can't wait to see how Severus deals with his new freedom and new house... and how he and Ginny progress! Great chapter! Loved the "first spell bet"! Genius... Update soooooon!
Hmm…so now the Bertram Aubrey question makes sense :) Seriously though, I think the only thing I can say is O.M.G! Love the story, love the chapter, hate the cliffy, but I’ll be patiently waiting for the next chapter…
Ack! Cliffhanger! I shall suffer deeply until the next installation.
*plants self in front of computer to wait for next installation*
I had to stop and look in my memory to remember what Severus did to Aubrey but with a few words you had that story line come back to me. and this poor sinister wizarding world. can't the ever get a break from not being threatened?
Hmmm....This one is a bit confussing to me so I'm thinking you're setting up something great over the next few chapters. "Curious...I wonder..."
It's 1 o'clock in the morning, and I'm literaly at the edge of my seat. I think "awesome" is the only word which can truly describe this story. That and "moving". This truly is highly moving.
I'm way too tired to be writing anything that makes sense now. I really love this story. The ending of the chapter was stunning. Light... I can't wait for the next update; I must know what happens next.
Your Potterverse is as real to me as Rowling's. Sometimes I find myself mixing the two. I actually wrote a Psychology assignment about Severus, with your description of him in mind at all times. There really isn't enough in the books for me to be able to really understand him, but with your stories he makes sense as a character. I titled the assignment "Severus in Profile", a small tribute to you, if you will. You see, I think you've figured him out, and if he turns out differently... Well, then JK is wrong. This is the real Severs for me. :)
Looks like it could be a really interesting story. However it requires the stage to be set for the reader at the outset. We find Severus in a cell, therefore he must have been caught, so is the Dark Lord dead ? I assume that all will be made clear later, but I found myself groping for some anchor or point(s) of reference to past events. Well wrtten, good English. I'll have a go at the next chapter.
