I thought it an excellent segue. Many authors get too caught up in creating a creepy mood, with lots of foreshadowing. Senseless violence should always strike without warning!

Author's Response: When you're braced for something to happen, it doesn't have the same visceral shock to it. I agree (again!).

Always nice to see Basil!

Author's Response: I agree. :)

The Clash's Train in Vain is IMHO the greatest country song ever written. Thanks for including it.

Author's Response: I've said it before, but I heart your taste in music. It was my pleasure to include it. Music says a lot about people. :)

Nice work mixing Hoodoo into the story.

Author's Response: Thanks! Once magic is real, all kinds are fair play. :)

Dueling morphs! I love it!

Author's Response: Dueling morphs is cooler than dueling banjos, heh.

Beauty from pain... I like this story, and I look forward to reading the next one. It worries me, though. A lot happens, and at some point there's going to be long, drawn out fight about Remus being too old and dangerous and Tonks not caring about that. It's going to be ridiculous in nature, but well written, and I'll comfort myself with the fact that Tonks never gives up because she thinks he's f-ing perfect! (Speaking of f-ing perfect, *squeals with excitement* I finally got a story published! It's called "You Are Perfect to Me", and I would really appreciate your opinion on it, if you have time.) Now, I'm off to finish reading Remus's journal.

Happy Writing,

Author's Response:

Huzzah for you getting a story published! *throws confetti* I'd love to read it.

I'm looking forward to your opinion on the next story. I tried to lead up to the Hospital Wing moment so when it comes, it isn't out of nowhere, and their fighting that leads up to it isn't ridiculous.

Yeah, "Oh, no, not him again!" just about sums it up, but my thoughts were a little more profane. Excellent story you have here.

Author's Response: It was just a cameo. :D Thank you!

u should write who-dunnits

Author's Response: Thank you so much for saying that! I've started writing original fiction, and whenever I start doubting myself I'm going to remember your encouragement. :)

I don't think I've cried this much while reading since DH! Maybe I'm just overly emotional today. Amazing, amazing, amazing story! Though I've come to expect that from you. :D

Author's Response: The holidays do bring emotions to the surface. Thank you for reading and for your wonderful, encouraging reviews! *hugs*

Even though this is the third time I've read this story I still cried during Tonks' dream. I think one of the most tragic things in the Potter universe is the story of Marauders.
Great chapter though. I didn't fully appreciate what an amazing writer you were until I read some of the other stuff on this site. Thank goodness for the talented ones...

Author's Response: James dies young; Peter didn't die young; Sirius spends years falsely imprisoned and when he gets out ends up self-imprisoned in Grimmauld and then dies young; Remus (can't even think about it). Thinking about the lives they could have led, should have led, are worth a tear. Thank you!

I think you missed one Ravenclaw reference. It was when "Lola" was describing her relationship with Penelope Clearwater. Also, does Jan have two daughters? Because I could have sworn she only had one but Tonks has been compared to Jan's daughter Anais and Anouk (or something like that).

Author's Response: Yay for your sharp eye! I'll go fix those before I forget. :D Jan only has one daughter, and on other sites her name is Anouk because Jan's character and shop was inspired by the film Chocolat. Here, though, a mod thought I should change the daughter's name (although it absolutely isn't a crossover) so I made it Anais (from the perfume Anais Anais, heh).

Ichigo? Would you, by any chance, be a fan of Bleach? Because if you are then you just became my favorite person, ever. Great chap!

Author's Response: It's Ichigo Momomiya from Tokyo Mew Mew, heh, not Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach. I hope that doesn't drop me out of your top twenty list. :D

it might be a good idea to state more clearly on all of these remus/tonks stories that they're part of a series :) i read the last one first, then this one, and finally realized that there were lots of others first :) i really don't care, because i know what happens in the end anyways, but just a fyi

Author's Response:

Hi! I'm glad you're reading, whatever the order. :) The second story in the series, A Wolf in the Moonlight, has in the summary that it's a sequel to Once in a Blue Moon, but the rest (except Dark Angel, which only mentioned that it wasn't an official part of the series) name the fics that came before in the author note of each first chapter. I made that decision because while I'd hate for anyone not to read something they're interested in because they haven't read other stories, I couldn't resist mentioning the ones that went before in hopes they'd go read them, too . . . sooner or later. ;)

I said "What the heck? Might as well finish the book." Even though the ending was happy, I cried. So it's a good thing I finished it at home. I can't have people thinking I'm crying over my budget amendments tomorrow:) although they're enough to make most people cry and not come to work. I'm glad Tonks went to the shrink. I liked the quote in needlepoint and I agree with Tonks' feelings. I'm really glad that Tonks is being given time to grieve. This was a really good book. I'm not sure where I'll show up tomorrow. I might look at some one-shots or I might start the next book. Thank you and I'll see you tomorrow.

Author's Response:

Well, what the heck, I went and did my best
And, by god, I really tasted something swell
And for a moment, why, I even touched the sky
And at least I left some stories they can tell, I did

Have you ever seen Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas? If you haven't, that's from Jack's lament after the Pumpkin King botches his attempt to do Christmas. :D

HaHa, the thought of faces if you said, "Budget amendments" to cover crying.

Whatever you decide to read will be luv-er-ly by me! Take care!

I decided to read this chapter at home too. It was almost sadder than the last one--with Tonks having to break the news to her parents. I hope to start tomorrow off on a happier note. Actually this is a tribute to your skill as a writer--when you can make the reader cry in the good times and the bad times. I had to arrange my reading so I wouldn't cry at work. I feel so bad for Cami, especially since she has hopes that Sirius will come back. I think that's part of the grieving process--it is for me anyway--I usually go through a time period when I pretend the person or dog is still around. Well, I've got to pack up my Halloween stuff for my kids and grandkids to get ready to priority mail tomorrow. Great chapter.

Author's Response:

Breaking bad news sucks. It's like feeling everything anew and seeing your pain on someone else's face.

I'm glad you have something happy to do to distract from the sadness! Lucky kids to get stuff when there are grandkids to steal the attention. :D

I waited until I came home to read this. I knew it was going to be sad and I hate crying at work--people might think I'm mental. My dogs get upset when I cry at home, especially if I'm loud, but I don't think they think I'm mental:) I really liked how you wrote this--through Tonks' dream. This chapter started out so happy, with Lisa having the baby and Remus getting to be a godfather. And, Tonks had a premonition of Teddy. Great chapter, but sad. (Now I can move on.)

Author's Response: I thought I'd move on...and then there was Cami, and then Andromeda, and the waterworks started again. Sigh. I've come to accept that I'll never totally get over what happened to Sirius...and the rest of them...and that's okay. Issues make people interesting. :D

I still think Tonks and Snape are pretty funny together. But Tonks and Remus are better lovers:) Their interaction with Will was interesting. Will's attitude was probably more typical of other werewolves. Remus is always a good example to follow. He may have issues but he always tries to live life to the fullest. I enjoyed their Valentine's Day. Great chapter.

Author's Response: I agree absolutely, Tonks and Remus are my one true pairing. They fit in ways Snape and Tonks never could. Will has a larger role in the next story, in which Remus is a very good role model, even though he never gives himself the credit. Him and his self esteem issues! Sigh.

I'm glad Tonks found two more mirrors. I remember Harry's mirror comes in handy in a couple of years. I know I have more fun getting ready for Christmas than I do at Christmas itself. The best part is getting a long Christmas vacation. I think it was so sweet of Remus to give Tonks a small Christmas tree and handmade decorations. I also like gifts with more meaning than monetary cost. I'm kind of dragging my feet because I know there's some really intense stuff coming up--but I need to get through that and move on. Great chapter.

Author's Response: I know when I wrote I knew what was coming and tried to pretend I didn't because I wanted to find a way to bring Sirius back, and I couldn't, and it broke my heart all over again. I cried so much writing that. Sheesh, I can get misty now thinking about it! Sappy, aren't I? (and remember it takes one to know one, heehee)

I didn't realize this story was quickly coming to an end. I always get a kick out of Mad-Eye. He really is paranoid and always thinking about Harry. I laughed when he referred to the hospital visit as "the Mission." It's so odd to see Harry through Tonks' eyes--it's almost like he's unfriendly. My attitude towards work is the same as yours--they should be happy I'm here spreading joy and laughter and keeping them on a timeline--what can I say--my stuff gets done on time and makes them look good because it's done right:D I haven't yet reached my goal of bringing in millions of dollars though, but when I do I expect to be reading fan fiction all day:D I'm glad you had a good vacation. I know you didn't get a lot of writing done but I'm sure you got some good ideas. Great chapter.

Author's Response:

With Mad-Eye, a trip to the corner market would be called a mission, heh. I don't see Harry as unfriendly, more reserved. He isn't the outgoing, chatty sort of boy. He sits back and watches and talks more openly with his friends than he'd ever do with adults. In the books, he doesn't bond with Tonks like Ginny and Hermione did. He's guarded. He can't help it, the way he was treated growing up.

I did get good ideas, I'm finishing a drabble now that I hope will be read on the Halloween Mermuggles (or whatever they call it) podcast. It's called Kill Me Again, Sam, and involves a first year trainee Tonks, her old potions partner Edmund Blofeld, and a zombie. Fun stuff. :D

That was kind of unusual. I figured that this was the chapter when Arthur was attacked, but I was lulled into a feeling of playfulness and forgot. The staring contest was pretty funny. And, Snuffles got his Indian food. I didn't expect the portrait to break in and make an announcement either--even though I know that's what happened. I hope you had fun over the week end. It's always nice to get away. Wasn't there a rock slide over an interstate out that way or do I have my Carolinas mixed up. Great chapter. I'm not sure if I'll read much more today but if not I'll see you tomorrow. Sometimes I have to do my regular job:)

Author's Response:

What? You have to work at work? I think they should be glad you're there to brighten their day.  Any time spent actually working should be considered a bonus. ;)

No rock slides where I was, just loads of gorgeous scenery, fall foliage, waterfalls, apple orchards, and a nighttime hayride. I thought I'd get some writing done. HaHa. :D
