Author's Response: They would have been cousins, but I figured there was probably a lot of intermarrying among the families that wanted to keep the bloodlines "pure".

this is a really great story, by the way. usually i think the whole turning-different-points-of-view- thing is forced, but i quite like this. it works out well and there's a definite reason for what you tell us, and from whose point of view. anyway, good stuff.
