Chapter: Fortune Favors the Brave

yay, another academy award to you, my friend. i seriously NEED you to make a second sequel to this. maybe harry could come back (for 1 day) as a ghost, to the burrow, and `say goodbye` because he never had the chance before. in the words of Albus Dumbledore, `this task is not for the fainthearted`i hope u`ll take mi idea into consideration though. if not , please do not tell anyone about it. i will give it a month and please get back to me. if the idea is not out in writing or if i have not heard back from you, i might attempt to write the fic myself. so let me know.

Author's Response: Thank you, again. I was actually considering writing other sequels, but I've never considered Harry possibly "coming back." As it's been more than a month, you are completely welcome to your idea! Good luck with that, my dear, and in the meantime, you might want to read the PREQUEL I started, "It Takes Love to Live."

*dries eyes with tears* sniff, oh my God, that moved me SOOOO much!

Ginny stood up and blew a kiss at the grave. She took a deep breath and strode out of the cemetery, the sun slowly peeking out. As she left, she could swear she hear the words “I love you, too” whispered in her ear.

*sniff* boy was that a great story. I loved it 10/10 *bursts into tears and hugs author*

Author's Response: Awwww... *hugs back* Thanks so much!

I ended an Draco/Ginny one-shot in nearly the same way.It was taken off of MNFF by me for rewrites a few months ago. It was quite shocking to see this ending. I love it as much on your story as I do on mine. :)

The eulogy was absolutely touching, and your characterization was awesome. I particularly liked how Ron was the one to comfort Ginny. :)

Nice work, dear. I can see why you placed in the challenge.

Author's Response: Ginny was always closest to Ron, in my opinion, so he should've been the one to comfort her, right? I rewrote the eulogy at least three times so that it would have that touching, Lupin-y feeling. I think I captured you? Thanks for reviewing!

Oh what a breath-taking story. I have goosebumps now.

This story fits the eulogy drabble in the Three Broomsticks. Care to participate in that too? ;)

I was wondering who would step up to the challenge of Harald's banner since it seemed awfully hard for me. You did so very very well. I never imagined it would be a funeral-type story, but you worked it very very well (I know I'm being repetitive).

I enjoyed the eulogy very much. It seems appropriate to have Lupin talk at the funeral, though I would've expected Ron and Hermione to talk as well, since, after all, they were his best friends. I liked the part about the Dursleys. Serves them right, after treating him the way they did. I'd like to see their reaction after Harry died (ooh plot bunny attacks again).

Your characters were very in-character. They expressed the emotions I thought they would. I particularly enjoyed Hermione's furious blinking. That hit the emotion right on the head. However, I think it might've been even angstier, and more realistic, if Ginny didn't cry. She seemed to sob periodically, and for some reason, I don't see Ginny as the sobbing type.

Your ending was by far the best part of your story. It truly showed that Harry would be remembered forever by those he loved and those who loved him in return.

Author's Response: Well, I didn't want to make the fic too long with Hermione and Ron speaking, plus Hermione would probably end up blubbering. I mean, she and Harry were like brother and sister. I thought of how Ginny reacted at Dumbledore's funeral, but made it more extreme, since she was so in love with Harry, and she was partly the reason Harry died. (partly explained in Hero) Oooh, I'll check out the eulogy challenge! Thanks for reviewing!

I had tears in my eyes at the end of that, and that rarely happens.

This is really a beautiful piece. You've characterized Ginny perfectly: I love how her reaction to hearing the "small man" speak about Harry mirrors Harry's reaction at Dumbledore's funeral. Also, you hit Lupin's character right on the head with that eulogy: I rarely find that eulogies are well done, but that one was. "Fortune favors the brave" is a very fitting motto for this piece. Absolutely lovely. Your description and - more importantly - your grasp of emotion remains rooted in reality. You dig deep here when it would be so easy to cash out and use cliches.

One minor point: when you list those who have seats reserved for them, you say "a lot of Harry’s dorm from school" - I had to read it a few times to get what you were saying. I'd advise saying "dormmates" or "housemates" from school.

Wonderfully done, with a fitting and poignant last line.

Author's Response: Thanks for the advice. I guess now reading it over it would sound better if I changed it. Thanks for reviewing!

Oh, that beautiful...
I cried when Lupin spoke, it was so sad!

Author's Response: Yeah, I figured Lupin would do it the best, apart from Dumbledore or Sirius, who were, of course, dead, so Lupin was the next person. Thanks for reviewing!
