Hope this continues, can't wait to find out who the guy in black was. Wonder what spell he used to possess the dragon. It's not nice to know that most of the Weasley's die in this fic, but hopefully those remaining will find a way to move on. Please update soon.

Chapter: Charlie Weasley

Okay, so here I am, reviewing the fic you actually told me to read. *tsk* You are a marvelous writer, as stated in my last review by the emotions your envoked in me. Not many writers can do that, so I'm already impressed (and maybe slightly fangurlish...)

Charlie chuckled. Ever since he’d shown Addicks the picture of his family, his friend had been berating him for letting Fred and George wear dragon suits.
*giggles* I'd always wondered what Charlie thought of Fred and George's new suits! A lovely touch of humor before what I know is inevitable.

I’ve never seen a Ukrainian Ironbelly anywhere except the textbooks
Uh oh, this is where the scary music starts to play right?

Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a new dragon look so calm
Calm before the storm? I love the fasle sense of security you're trying to lul me into. i'm going to hate myself if this turns out to be a Red Herring...

As custom demanded, Addicks and Charlie stood stock-still to allow the dragon to lean over and sniff them. Charlie offered a small smile up at the cautious dragon. Finally, the dragon approved and gave a huff.
As a little aside. I love what you've done with the characterization of the dragons themselves (laghs at self for talking about dragon characterization). But really, a lot of people write dragons as vicious, cruel, dangerous and stupid creatures, because that's what they see in GoF. But really, if you think about it, those were nesting mothers, and nothing is more vicious than a mother who feels her young are at risk. To get back to my point, I love that you have the dragons showing personality. Obviously they are still storng and dangerous creatures, but so are dogs (again, laughing at own rediculous analogies here). Dog personalities often reflect the environment they are in, they can be very dangerous, but can also be very loyal and loving. I think maybe dragons can be seen the same way (well, in Hagrid's and Charlie's eyes at least). Dragons just have the added freatures of being enourmous and large talons and teeth...

Moving on from my random babble...

The dragon’s eyes, originally a red-orange color with yellow flecks, had turned a burgundy shade surrounding a startlingly narrow black slit.

I hate to interrupt my glowing rant to point something out
Its paw, which was still resting on the bench, came crashing down, crushing the bench to splinters of wood.
I just think it'd flow better if you said:
crushing the bench into splinters
The way you have it is fine, but it made me stop and reread the sentence, when really the focus should be on where the story is going. Equate it to a speedbump.

The Ironbelly let out another furious bellow when it saw Charlie with his wand. It unfurled its claws and began to swipe at Charlie and Addicks.
See! The dragon senses the fear and unease in Charlie and Addicks. It precieves the wand as malicious intent (just like a dog will back away from a person who suddenly raises their hand in the air, as if they might strike)

Nooooooo! Addicks!
*shudder* the imagery of Charlie hearing his friend's bones crushed was heartbreaking.

And of course, I'm saddened by Charlie's misfortune. Although I knew it was coming. But that ws kind of the fun of the story (if such a story is fun), as I kept guessing how it might happen.

I'm slightly confused by the new trainer in black who was casting the incantation at the ironbelly. Was he the one causing the choas by putting a spell on the dragon? Or was he trying to incapacitate the dragon with his spell, and Charlie realized he was in the path of danger? Why did Charlie want him to stop?

This is obviously a WIP if you have "Chapter One" written at the top, and the description on your profile says there will be one chapter per Weasley that died. So I'm wondering if the mystery at the end here will be solved as you go through the chapters? Or if a simple sentence of two could clear things up.

Really, I love the start you have here, and after reading Percy's Revenge, I really want to konw what happened to each and every one of the Weasleys that died (especially Ginny).

Excellent work dear! I'm glad we were paired as SPEW buddies. Obviously we didn't get to chat much, but I hope we can continue to learn about each other and appreciate each other's writing! *Hugs*

Yikes, Beth! You have no mercy!!! Killing off Charlie like that...-shakes finger-

Well, I suppose I can bring myself to comment through *sniffles* deep emotion. It was entirely noble of Charlie to do this.

I have only one issue. I'm left with a question. Magic can bring people back from near death, and dragon keepers (even Addicks) must be skilled in Healing if they work around such dangerous animals.

Why did a simple impalement (oxymoron, but honestly, it should be easy to heal, I would thinK!) kill Charlie?

You could add to this story by perhaps including how dragon wounds aren't as easily healed by magic or something.

Maybe Charlie would have a burn earlier on in the story that hurt him, and he would comment upon how wounds didn't heal as quickly if caused by dragons - even with the help of magic.

That's my only complaint. :) I love the interaction and emotions you bring up in this story!

P.S. This is the first of three reviews that are a part of your prize for the LilyEvans34 Review Challenge.

Author's Response: Ah well, I was trying to emphasize on the fact that the dragon scene was pure chaos. While there must've been someone who wanted to save Charlie (who wouldn't?), they too had to run for their own lives. I'm sure human instinct would put someone's priorities for himself first before his friends.

What a lovely fic, Beth - but how sad! I can't wait to read the rest of the series - even if I know you're just going to kill them all off! I really liked Addicks' character, it was so nice how passionate he was about the dragons. I thought your description was great too, "Its snout protruded from its face and its lips were curled back to reveal gleaming, sharp fangs." I could really picture the dragon - though I'm not sure I want to!

I loved the little bit about Fred and George' dragon suits - I never thought about how that could offend/annoy dragon handlers! That was brilliant! "Charlie was sure if the dragon was being attacked, its talons would be enough to unnerve even You-Know-Who himself." What a great idea - they should really try that in book 7!

One thing is, at the beginning of the story Charlie says that he'll be going home for Thanksgiving, but Brits don't celebrate Thanksgiving - I don't even know when it is! So maybe you could change that to another holiday, like Christmas or Halloween?

The conversation between Charlie and Addicks was great, it really made me smile. The best line has to be, "“Anything unusual about this one?” Addicks replied wryly, “You mean apart from the fact that this is the biggest dragon ever to exist? Not much.” " That really made me giggle!

Oh my gosh - the ending! I mean, from the summary, I knew pretty much what was coming, but that hit me so hard. That he died before finding out if he'd stopped the man in black - did he? I hope so. It was such a touching story though, especially the way you ended it, with it all just going black.

Anyway, all that is left to say now is HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETH (for yesterday!)! And great fic!!

Author's Response: Ah, that would be answered in Hidden when it finishes. Thanks for your review!

That was unerving to say the least. I love how you utilized such gorey and disconcerting imagry and how you decided to focus on a more minor character. Poor Charlie, though.
