I really liked the ending. But the basilisk should have sworn at Fawkes a bit, too.
needs improvement, but i mostly read the third or fourth fanfic of authors who've won awards, so i'd say its a great first fic

That Basilisk has quite a sense of humour! I loved the moral at the end (I fell out of my chair!) and you got a real sense of panic when the basilisk's eyes were ripped out, although you could've used less exclamation marks. Great job! I'll be checking more of your stuff out!
