I think that you caught James's nervousness well, although i would think that he would be trying to play it a little more cool and actually have a conversation. But i did like it non the less.
I loved it! But I just didn't get one thing: What exactly was the dare? Just going on a date with her? I assume the marriage part was James's idea, but I'm still not sure what Sirius dared James to do. It was fantastic, though

The dare was really very silly but I imagine tht's how he worked up the courage to hold her hand, kiss her etcetera, so I don't think it's unromantic. I actually like it

i don't care if it's something he wanted to do but hadn't gotten around to or whatever you said it stillshould of his descision as to when and where and for that matter why it should have been because of a dare wow would you marry someone who was asking becasue they were dared to?!!!! i sure as hell wouldn't
Author's Response: Well, if you think about it, it wasn't really so much of a dare. More of a taunt that Sirius made that spurred him into action. And James did have the intention of asking Lily anyway. Also, I would be inclined to think that he never told Lily what exactly spurred him into action? :) It's okay if you don't like it though. This is just an idea I had. :) Also bear in mind that this fic was written quite a few years ago, when I was much younger and relatively inexperienced in matters of the heart ;)
