Ron lay awake in his bed, listening to the leaves rustle, the wind blowing, and the cry of Ron Weasley Jr. cry. It had been like that for two weeks. Since Hermione had her baby, the house was different; there was never a peaceful moment and every time he helped, it turned out wrong.
He turned over on the bed, remembering one particular night…
*FLASHBACK*
Ron was on his bed, a book open in his hand, but his eyes weren’t moving. He tried to concentrate but just couldn’t. All the shrieking was really starting to annoy him. It was the day after Hermione had birthed their first child. He was supposed to be getting some sleep for he had a busy day at the Ministry the next day but he couldn’t get any sleep – not with all this racket. Placing the book down, he stood up and walked out of the room and into the baby’s room to see Hermione holding screeching baby. He gently knocked on the door and she turned around, her eyes drooping. He smiled and walked inside.
“Let me, Hermione,” he said.
“But –” she started.
“Don’t worry about me. Put him here,” he held out his arms for the baby. Hermione smiled, handed him over, and planted a kiss on his cheek before leaving. The baby quieted and looked at his father.
“Look it here you,” said Ron playfully. “We need some…OUCH”. The baby grabbed a chunk of Ron’s hair and yanked. Ron’s face turned red.
“Get off!” he shrieked and the baby started crying again. Ron tried to put the baby back into his bed but he only managed to grab him by his wrists, leaving the baby’s feet dangling in mid air.
Hermione entered the room and screamed.
“Ronald…what are you doing!”
“He can’t hear you!” barked Ron.
“NOT HIM…
YOU!” screamed Hermione running forward. “You’re holding him the wrong way.” She tried pulling the baby off his hair but he clung on, screaming, yanking, and kicking.
“GET…OFF!” yelled Ron and water was pouring from his eyes…not because he was crying, but the pain. The little Ron sure did have a powerful grip.
“Don’t pull him like that Ronald!” yelled Hermione trying to pull the baby away.
“Yes, listen to your mum…let go,” begged Ron.
“Not him…I’m talking to you, Ronald! He’s only a baby,” said Hermione impatiently.
“He’s the one holding on to me!” yelled Ron yanking his head away and falling back into the baby’s bed, crashing it to the floor.
“Are you ok?” asked Hermione hugging the now laughing baby.
“I don’t…” started Ron.
“I was talking to the baby,” said Hermione rolling her eyes. Ron glared at her, stood up, and slumped out of the room. Hermione, hearing him grumble as he left, smiled to herself.
“That wasn’t very nice mister,” she said to the baby. Looking at her, he grabbed her hair, jerking her head forward.
“RON! Help!” screamed Hermione while the baby laughed.
