RESULTS

This was incredibly difficult to judge. So difficult, that I gave up and instead awarded a joint 1st place and no 3rd place. Therefore, the results are:

Joint 1st Place:

Noble Souls by Gmariam

This was an elegantly written story, which brought brilliantly to life a specific time and place, as well as presenting the young Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore believably. It is so fascinating seeing young Albus from another's perspective, but Gellert remained the centre of the story, his character and world view shining through in every sentence.

Gina therefore takes 20 points (for this story) back to Ravenclaw.

and:

Teach My Feet To Fly by Equinox Chick

This story was beautiful. While this is a romance, the focus remains on Andromeda's personality, her relationship with Ted and her relationship with her family, creating an incredibly realistic character. The time shifts work so well, and there is a believable explanation for how a Black comes into contact with such a beautiful Muggle song, the words and feel of which complemented the story perfectly.

Carole takes 20 points back to Hufflepuff.


2nd Place:

An Appreciation for Still Life by epiphany212

This story characterised Dean excellently, giving him a believable future and explaining how he felt about his father, his mother and being an artist beautifully. It was interesting to see the wizarding art world, and the change from the third to the first person was not grating, but worked, using the two different styles of writing to develop his character.

Natasha takes 15 points (for this story) back to Gryffindor.



In addition to those, there were two stories which made me wish I was judging the prompts individually, because the zest with which they took the travel prompt brought to life two very different places. While both places are familiar to the writers (Natasha--I was very intrigued as to whether you'd say in your end notes that it was based on your own experience or just heavy duty research), it nevertheless takes great skill to make them real and familiar to a wider audience. Therefore I am also awarding both minnabird and epiphany212 honourable mentions and ten points to Hufflepuff and Gryffindor respectively for:
