For the OC challenge, does the OC need to be human, or can s/he be a creature of humanlike intelligence and reasoning (and speech)?

After much, much deliberation, I have decided...what the hell. Why not? This came up in a GH question, so I will answer it in kind.

Here are the strictures I will put on this allowance: you can use centaurs, goblins, house elves, ghosts, poltergeists, part-humans, vampires, and any other creature classified as being 'of near-human intelligence' and in possession of sentient thought; you cannot use trolls, full-blooded giants (Hagrid and Mme Maxime would not be full-blooded giants and therefore eligible as part-humans), creatures that cannot talk due to nature, ghouls, or beings not in possession of sentient, cognitive thought.

You're not going to believe this, I know, because it's so unlike me ....

But ....

My OC story will be just under the maximum amount (10k). However, it will probably be over the archive word count, so I'm hoping that the rule still applies where you can check the word count in my document and let me split this into two chapters.

I'm fine with that. Just bear in mind that the archive word limit is based on number of characters rather than number of words, so the less formatting you have, the more words it will let you have.

Like Carole, my second OC story is a little under 10k (9944 according to word). But the site won't let me post because its added about 100 words to that. I hope that it's okay for me to do the same as Carole.

Sure. Just flip me an email with the word doc. Just bear in mind for future challenges that the archives count contractions as two words (for what reasons, I don't understand). But mostly, it goes by number of characters that tends to average out to X amount of words, which is why sometimes, your entry ends up being 9900 words and it still won't take it. This includes any coding tags or if you just like to use long words. >.>

Also, make sure your second part is up before the end of the month.
