After much, much deliberation, I have decided...what the hell. Why not? This came up in a GH question, so I will answer it in kind.

Here are the strictures I will put on this allowance: you can use centaurs, goblins, house elves, ghosts, poltergeists, part-humans, vampires, and any other creature classified as being 'of near-human intelligence' and in possession of sentient thought; you cannot use trolls, full-blooded giants (Hagrid and Mme Maxime would not be full-blooded giants and therefore eligible as part-humans), creatures that cannot talk due to nature, ghouls, or beings not in possession of sentient, cognitive thought.
