Standing in the ballroom, Bianca Nott could feel her pearl white dress sweeping at her feet. She felt elegant, beautiful and complete. Bianca felt pleased that her stunning white outfit had attracted everyone's attention. She could literally feel that all eyes were on her.

She spotted her sister and rival, Portia Nott. For some strange reason, she was snickering and pointing at her. Portia was probably just angry that she had managed to outshine her.

For some self-assurance, Bianca took a quick look at her dress.

She gasped.

An ugly stain was spreading across the fabric.

It was pumpkin juice.

A/N: For those of you who noticed that Day 4 was missing, I totally fell asleep and forgot to post what I'd written. In summary, the tennis couple who James had THOUGHT was interrupting his sleep for Day 1 was out on the court before the downpour started. Then they hid under an umbrella-ed picnic table nearby and got a bit... frisky, lol. This is just more salt on James's wounds, yet another bit of evidence damning this as the worst holiday ever.

James eyed the food just delivered to their room dubiously. Since the weather was still dodgy, they had ordered room service in lieu of braving the downpour to eat out. However, tea was looking far dodgier.

Picking up a square of… something, he asked, “What is this?”

“It’s a cucumber sandwich,” Mum said. “You know your sister doesn’t eat meat, so I thought it would be nice to try things she likes.”

First his parents’ nocturnal activity and sodden tennis players feeling each other up publicly, and now this. Holidays were going to murder his appetite once and for all.

Harry descended the steps to see Uncle Vernon and Dudley fixated on the television.

“What’s on?” he asked, in high spirits because of the large birthday cake he had just received from Sirius.

“Wimbledon, you dolt,” Vernon replied calmly. “Don’t you pay attention to anything?”

“Mum,” Dudley called, not taking his eyes off the screen. “What’s for lunch?”

“Cucumber sandwiches, Duddums,” Aunt Petunia replied.

Dudley scowled at this information while Vernon muttered about rabbit food under his breath. Harry turned around at the bottom of the staircase and went straight back up. He knew what he was having for lunch.

Hermione knocked on the cottage door. "Do stand up straight. She's particular about posture."

"Stop, will you?" Ron straightened himself. "You're making me nervous."

"I just want her to love you."

"Yeah, but I can't relax now. Don't you want me to be myself?"

She chewed on her bottom lip.

"Great," he mumbled.

"Oh, and whatever she serves, you must pretend to enjoy it."

He grinned wide. "Easy. I love everything."

"Not cucumber sandwiches."

He whirled to face her, looking horrified.

The door opened to reveal a small, elderly woman.

"Hello, Gran," Hermione said, blushing. "This is Ron, my boyfriend."

Ginny and Hermione pick up three a piece and saunter off, but Ron stares, daunted, at the plate before him.

“What’s this, then?” he says, pinching up one crust-less square, giving it a sniff.

“Melon…,” he sniffs again.

“Doused in beer….,” Another sniff.

“Pickle on the side. Hm.” He bites.

He chews, thinking on it, then tosses it into the bushes. A robin flaps down upon it, picking at the remnants.

He looks at the robin, the back at the girls.

“I’d say that’s for the birds. Come on, Mate. Let’s go round up something with a spot of ham.”

Day Five of the Holiday of Doom was not shaping up for James any better than the previous four. Now he found himself in the backseat of the family car, waiting in some ridiculously long queue that wrapped around a strange building. He liked the building, though; it was adorned with large, glowing signs and a particular symbol kept appearing all over: that of a curvy-looking, yellow ‘M’.

“I thought you lot might like something different. This place has the best chips you’ll ever eat.”

“It’s my mum’s favourite. She told me she waited in a queue for two hours to get them, so you’d better be nice about it,” Hermione scolded.

“The opera, though, Hermione. What am I going to do at the opera?”

“Watch and listen, I expect,” she replied. “And try to make a good impression on my parents.”

She looked up at Ron’s face and couldn’t help but give him a small smile.

“Who knows?” she said, wrapping her arms around him. “Maybe you’ll like it.”

Ron snorted.

As Hermione and Ron entered Flourish and Blotts, it became apparent that the bookshop was rather full for a Sunday. They squeezed into the shop, joining a long queue.

“Hermione!” exclaimed Ron. He pointed to a sign in the window. “There’s a panel of Quidditch stars signing the new edition of Quidditch Through the Ages!”

“Ron-” started Hermione, remembering something Ginny mentioned yesterday.

“Is that Levski?” asked Ron excitedly.

“Ron, maybe we should come back-”

At that moment, the crowd in front of them cleared and they were thrust to the front of the queue.

Ron’s smile disappeared instantly.

“Herm-own-ninny!”
