I stepped on Severus's foot.
He let out a shriek of pain. "What was that for? Lily, are you feeling alright? You're not acting yourself"
I felt the adrenaline rush through me. What should I say? What should I do? Tears rushed to my eyes. As they rolled down my face, I decided on another stomp.
I do not know myself. I want to keep surprising myself."

Awkwardness, they had cited, borne of his Squib status, but wanting to prune his fetid branch from the family tree was far more likely.

But it was okay. The world was a far bigger place than the Black family.

“No, I just meant…” He quickly changed course. “Forget cunning—it’s probably because you’re resourceful. That’s good—who doesn’t want to be resourceful?”

Her face changed, and he knew she was trying not to laugh.

“Is it really important that I understand everything about myself?”

He grinned and chuckled. “Definitely not. It’s more fun when you have no idea what’s going to happen next.”

They’d ended it weeks ago, yet her anger still hadn’t died.

You could have any man you want, she scolded herself fervently. There’s no need to wait around for Teddy-F***ing-Lupin. All men lost interest in her eventually. Once their eyes adjusted to the glare of her looks, they grew annoyed with her cold demeanor. Teddy, like the rest of them, had simply tired of her.

The realization brought sweat to her palms and a strange, stinging sensation to her eyes. I don’t want him to leave, she realized.

The notion surprised her. Perhaps she did have a heart after all.

A/N: I'm fascinated by the idea that a metamorphmagus could go through so many changes that s/he doesn't know what he really looks like...

Hair rapidly changing colours, a whirlwind of blurry rainbows. Eyes glittering,
glinting through the darkness. Hands elongating, legs stretching, face changing. The Metamorphmagus drops to its knees before the table, and taps the glittering powder on the glass with its wand. Bending closer, it breathes the noxious fumes in heavily.

Its features rapidly change. In desperation, it seizes the frame from the wall, and looks at the picture. Its five year old self grins back at it, the last vestige of its shattered identity. The Metamorphmagus sinks back into its never-ending cycle of despair and fear.

A/N: I hope it's obvious who this is....and I know the time is up but the thread was still open so I hoped I could sneak in.

I kept my coin for reasons I don’t understand. I hated the Granger cow for what she had done to me in my sixth year.

I followed my mum into the ministry when I graduated and soon, I noticed the coin begin to change again. New times, new dates appeared frequently and even though I kept my head down, I knew that somewhere, people braver than me were fighting.

But when it changed for the last time, that fateful night, something changed, and for the first time in my life, I stood up for what was right and fought.
