Only a kiss. It was only a kiss.

Hannah lifted her fingers to her face and brushed them against her lips, the ghost of a kiss. Suddenly she was back there, standing in the dark, deserted corridor, the twisted remains of a suit of armour scattered about them. They both knew that a vast army lay before them.

‘We’ll get through this,’ he said, putting an arm around her shoulders and staring intently at her. Suddenly, he moved towards her and their lips touched, in a brief, wonderful, soft kiss.

Suddenly the vision was gone, and she was simply alone.

When she told him she loved him, he kissed her neck softly, trying not to let her see his tears.

When he told her why he'd cried, he held her tightly and kissed every one of her tears away.

When they said goodbye, his kisses tasted like tears.

And when he finally let go, he laid a kiss upon her hand and promised to love her in the next life too.

When she cries herself to sleep at night, she lays soft kisses on her pillow, remembering the soft kisses that promised of the forever they never got to have.

    Cutting it to the wire...

Well, this was embarrassing. All that time picturing that moment, and his hands were sweaty. James could feel Lily staring at him and it didn’t help move things along. He wiped his hands on his trousers, muttering something about a long practice. His trainer laces were untied, but he just ignored the mess for the moment. It took him a moment to register who made the first move. She moved in and he smiled, parting his lips. He really wanted to spin off a smooth line, something to make this memory stick, but nothing came to him. This was nice.
