    Title + Link: Always Watching
    Author: AidaLuthien
    Warnings/Ratings: 1st-2nd Years, None
Summary: Severus Snape is bound to watch and wait.
Reason for Recommendation: A well-written venture into the very complex mind of Severus Snape around the events of the attempted theft of the sword. It explores his character deeply and accurately. Worth reading, to understand him better.

    Title + Link: White Jade
    Author: AidaLuthien
    Warnings/Ratings: 1st-2nd Years, None
Summary: The youngest prince of China prepares to leave the capital to go to the Dragon Pearl.
Reason for Recommendation: This story presents a refreshingly different milieu and culture, to give us a break from the relentlessly British atmosphere of most of the fics on this site. The story is not very plotty, but the descriptions and details of this exotic location capture our attention and intrigue us with how the author adapts the principles of wizardry to the Chinese setting.

    Title + Link: Vanishing Green
    Author: armagod 679
    Warnings/Ratings: 1st-2nd Years, None
Summary: She sits at her window and watches the vanishing green.
Reason for Recommendation: Read this piece to see a first-class example of how to write a story with only one character, no dialogue, and almost no action. It succeeds exceptionally! We can use the principles of composition exemplified in this story to enrich our own stories that already have multiple characters, dialogue, and plenty of action.
