    Title (+Link):My Troubled Tyrant
    Author:Belledeg
Warnings/Ratings:Professors: Character Death, DH Spoilers, Sexual Situations, Strong Profanity, Violence
Summary:Keedie Dante has experienced many amazing things during her time at Hogwarts, including the hushed up drama that was the Chamber of Secrets. However, with two overachieving friends and a headmaster who does not even know she exists, Keedie feels that perhaps her seventh year will not be too spectacular. However, Dumbeldore sees her potential as a writer and enrols her in a simple writing course. Here, she meets the mysterious and terrifying Tom Riddle and they instantly get under one another's skin. She is drawn to his dark determination towards some unknown goal and he is fascinated by her, in every way. However, Tom's friends do not approve of Keedie and her unconventional ways and Keedie has many people trying to keep her away from the dark young man as well. Something inside tells Keedie that she can make him better, but even he assures her that this is an impossible task. But she's not one to give up easily...

"He is a dark one, Keedie. Try not to let him consume you entirely."
Reason for Recommendation:Holy cow times four, this story is one of the best constructed romances I've ever read. To take someone as despicable and hated as Tom Riddle and make us feel for him and hope he gets the girl is not only hard to do, it's absolutely fantastic. I've read this one three times, and I wish it was a book so I could curl up on the couch with it.

Title (+Link): The Colour of Distance
    Author: the opaleye/Julia
Reason for Recommendation: The imagery and raw feeling in this one-shot is just completely mind-blowing. I can't believe that much emotion was packed into it.
    Summary:
It’s quiet now. The universe is standing still.

She stares out across the great expanse of water.

    He watches her longing gaze.

    Finally alone.

    Title (+Link): Shades of Grey
    Author: Liandrin
Reason for Recommendation: It's a different sort of take, or at least from what I've read, on Draco/Ginny. It's not a disgusting fluff factory that spoon feeds you romance; it's very angsty, so if you're not into that sort of thing, it might not be for you. If you do, however, like the sort of thing where characters have to evolve along with the story, then here ya go.
Summary: In the aftermath of the Hogwarts' battle, Draco Malfoy is interned at Godric's Hollow under the vigilant eye of Ginevra Weasley. While Harry and the Order convene to decide on Draco's fate, an unlikely bond is formed between captor and captive.
Ratings/Warnings: Professors: DH Spoilers, Epilogue? What Epilogue?, Mild Profanity, Self Injury, Sexual Situations
Review (optional): This review is really, really, really, really long (it's been deemed epic by the insurmountable Miss Julia), so bear with me. And I did cut some stuff out, but it's not pertinent to the review.

    Title (+Link): Honorable Intentions
    Author: fg_weasley
Rating and Warnings: 6th-7th years - Abuse, Sexual Situations, Strong Profanity
    Summary:
This was what they both needed, what they both longed for—to forget their troubles and life itself and just feel.

When you are born into a family of considerable Wizarding wealth and stature, especially if you are a daughter, you marry for gain and nothing else. The story is no different for Honor Turcotte. To everyone else, she appears to be happily engaged to Rabastan Lestrange. But what hides behind that intoxicating smile is not newly wed excitement. Honor has a thrilling, spine-tingling secret.

    And it involves Regulus Black.

Reason for Recommendation: This is such a passionate and intense story. Not only has Nikki created a killer OC but she's also brought to life a character we see little of in canon. The characterisation of Regulus Black and Honor Turcotte is so well done that it makes you keep wanting for more. It's a good thing Nikki has written two other companion one-shots to sate your thirst.

Title (+Link): A Suitable Young Man
    Author: Castanje/Blue Phoenix
Reason for Recommendation: A truly wonderful Draco/Ginny story that I had a pleasure of beta'ing - I thought the world of it even before it went up on the archives, and I seriously think anyone who's into non-canon romances will enjoy this story. Castanje takes care to make sure her Draco and Ginny stay as far away from OOC as possible (and, as anyone knows, this is particularly tricky in a non-canon romance) and the addition of Aunt Muriel into the mix makes the whole story much more hilarious. You'll see canon characters whom you love (or love to hate) engaged in an interesting plot that takes its time to set things up correctly, and it's worth reading for exactly that reason.
    Review (optional): none.

Title: Lavender, blue - A Gryffindor true

    Author: Equinox Chick/Carole

Reason for Recommendation: This fic is pure magic. Honestly, I think it could be one of my favourite fics ever. Seriously. I want it be canon, it's so good. Carole delves into both characters wonderfully, revealing depths, flaws, admirable qualities, histories, futures, everything - she has the amazing ability to make HP characters real. They leap off the page at you, they're so real. Lavender, who is butchered in FF, and doesn't get good press in canon, blossoms into a likable, brave, strong, relatable person - but she's still Lavender. She's stuck beautifully to the essence of who Lavender is, but at the same time focuses on other plausible qualities that round her off nicely. Lavender ceases to be a cardboard cut out and evolves into a real, admirable character. I just love the fact that she's still Lavender - the characteristics that Carole has given to her suit her. You can imagine her behaving that way/saying things that way/thinking things that way. She gives Blaise, who is somewhat of a mystery in canon, an amazingly detailed, realistic, evolved, developed personality. He's fully fledged - it's as if J.K. herself wrote him, or he's someone he's someone you actually know in RL. The story itself also has a plot; written in a time at Hogwarts that we know very little about. The relationship between Lavender and Blaise corresponds perfectly with the plot at Hogwarts. The timing is dangerous - like their relationship. The fic won't fail to draw you in and encompass you until you're utterly consumed/obsessed. A must read <3

    Review (optional):

Oh, Carole, thank Merlin you posted the second chapter! I read the first chapter ages ago, thought it was really interesting, and kept checking back for the next one. And now you have it up! I hope you'll follow with the next one soon - I'm hooked!

What I find so great about this fic is how you've shown Lavender's depths as a character, rather than taken the easy route and have her batting her eyelashes and giggling. There aren't many stories with Lavender, and more-so with her as a decent character. I also like how you show her reluctance to re-join the DA; not because she's a coward, but because she promised her father. It's nice to see that she's genuinely concerned for the Trio, Dean and her mother. Do we hear anything about Mrs. Brown in later chapters?

Another thing I find interesting is your portrayal of Blaise. I like the idea of him being a half-blood and sympathetic to Lavender's plight, though I have to wonder about his intentions towards her. Is it just merely a physical attraction or has he been admiring her from afar? He can't know much about her, really. Or is he just using her? Hmmm...

I find nothing to correct in this chapter, to be honest. I think your characters are all very IC - especially Ginny and Neville. I think you portray her reactions very well and how easily she flares up. I like the way you show Neville's transformation into the group's ringleader - it's a side we all knew he had, and it's great to see him being so brave.

Overall, a truly original plot-line, a well-written and interesting story and I can't wait to read more! Your work never fails to impress me. Hopefully, though, it won't take as long to update?

Title (+Link): To His Muse: A Wizarding tale of a Desperate Housewife
    Author: mrsmclnt, Viv
Reason for Recommendation: I don't read much non-canon but this is brilliant. It's Lockhart/Molly - it sounds so WRONG - but the authors have made it believable. Read, it's fab!

    Title (+Link): A Difficult Conversation
    Author: DracoGurlFurever
Reason for Recommendation: Though the pairing is Draco/Ginny, the story is more a battle of wits between Draco and Harry. Engaging conversation and perfect for Draco-lovers.

Title (+Link): The World According to Severus Snape
    Author: Rhet
    Warnings/Ratings: DH Spoilers, 3rd-5th year
    Summary:
Snape reflects on how unfortunate his life is. His friendship with Lily is the only good thing in his life (although he wished they were more than friends), but he manages to lose her friendship too.
“Life has always dealt you the losing hand; again, and again, and again. Sometimes, life would be kind and you would become hopeful - like the day that you met her.”

“You watched from a distance as she fell for him - just like he’d always wanted. Just like she’d always sworn that she would never, ever do; promise."
Reason for Recommendation: It's nice to sometimes see how Severus' mind really works, and this fic examines his psyche very cleverly.

    Title (+Link): Nobody's Knight
    Author: sorrow_of_severus
Warnings/Ratings: Abuse, DH Spoilers, Substance Abuse, 1st-2nd year
    Summary:
As he flees the scene of yet another of his parents' fights, young Severus Snape reflects briefly on his instincts of self-preservation. He isn't ashamed. He's always known he'd be a Slytherin, and Slytherins put themselves first. It's simply practical, common sense. He doesn't know everything will change in just a few hours.
Reason for Recommendation: I was really impressed with how the author took up Severus' childhood as her subject, and then showed us why Lily meant so much to him.

    Title: Lily's Son
    Author: h_vic
Warnings/Ratings: 6th-7th Years - Mild Profanity, Sexual Situations
Summary: At the start of term feast, Severus Snape watches the first years being Sorted with a little more interest than usual, and a little more regret, as he finds one child’s presence brings back too many memories of a woman he once loved…and betrayed. Even if Severus could forgive Harry Potter for who his father was, forgiving him for who his father was not may be harder.
Reason for Recommendation: This is a fascinating look into the mind of Snape the night before and the night of Harry's Sorting. It explores the complex emotions that run through him during that time, what seeing Lily's eyes on a James Potter clone made him feel, and regret for what might have been.
