    Dieter Heydrich

    Guten Tag!

My name is Dieter Heydrich, and I would like to tell you a few things about myself.

I was born on 11 December 1927, and I am currently eleven years old. Concerning my appearance, I have blond hair and blue eyes - sometimes, teachers have used me in class as an example of what the typical Aryan looks like!

And yes, I am purely Aryan, and so is the rest of my family and my friends and neighbours. I am proud to be a youth of the Reich (I'm an active member of the Deutsches Jungvolk), and a member of the greatest race on Earth! But it doesn't end there, because I've just found out that I am an Aryan wizard too!

On my eleventh birthday, a strangely dressed man invited himself to our home, and he told my family that he was a wizard and that I was one also. Naturally, we thought he was a crackpot or maybe a cunning Jew at first, but he eventually managed to convince us - he did some extraordinary things with his wand to prove his point. I then accepted his invitation to learn magic at his school - Durmstrang!

I can't wait for 1 September 1939, when term begins! I had no idea we Aryans produced witches and wizards, and I want to learn all I can about magic so that one day, I can help the "Muggle" population of the Reich when I'm older. By the way, a "Muggle" is someone with no magical powers - that's one of the new wizarding words I learned.

That's it for now. I'll tell you more about myself when I go to Durmstrang!

    ~ Dieter Heydrich

Yep. That's Dieter, from my Grindelwald-era story, Für Das Größere Wohl. Feel free to ask this slightly disturbing boy any questions you like!

Deiter, *makes the sign of the cross to keep the little Nazi boy away* I have some questions for you.

How did you react when you saw not everyone holds such a high opion of Muggle-born wizards? You must know it is quite extrodinary that you got into Durnstang despite this.

What famous wizard do you know of?

What is your favorite subect in Muggle school? Wizard school?

What do you want to be when you grow up? How will being a wizard effect this?

Are you interested in girls yet?

Do you have many friends in your village? What are their names? What are they like?

Do you have many friends at Durnstang?

Who was your favorite teacher at your old school? At your new one?

What do your parents think about you being a wizard?

Are you tempted to use magic outside of school? When would this be?

    Hello, OliveOil_Med.

You made the sign of the cross - are you Catholic? Why do you want to keep me away? I thought Catholics supported the NSDAP! If you don't know what that stands for, I'll... I'll report you to the Gestapo!

Well, I'll answer your questions first.

How did you react when you saw not everyone holds such a high opion of Muggle-born wizards? You must know it is quite extrodinary that you got into Durnstang despite this.

I don't really know what you mean. The Professor mentioned something about that, but he told me that I shouldn't worry about it if the topic comes up. He said that in Das Zweite Zaubererreich, your origins don't matter - the only thing that matters is the magic that we witches and wizards have in common.

What famous wizard do you know of?

The Professor talked about the Zaubererreich-Kanzler, Gellert Grindelwald. From what I've heard, he is a great wizard. He founded Das Zweite Zauberrereich, and he has changed everything for the better. That is why I will be able to go to Durmstrang - the Professor said that the school wasn't as open before Grindelwald changed things.

What is your favorite subect in Muggle school? Wizard school?

Your favourite subject should be spelling - you need it!

MY favourite subject in "Muggle" school is physical education, though I do well enough in the other boring, bookish subjects. I haven't had any classes at Durmstrang yet, but I've looked at the book list - learning combat spells sounds fun!

What do you want to be when you grow up? How will being a wizard effect this?

Well, I always wanted to join the Schutzstaffel when I was old enough - those men look so impressive with their neat black uniforms! I've always wanted to do my part to serve the Reich and my race, so why not do so with THE BEST!

But I don't know how that may or may not change, now that I'm a wizard. If the Zaubererreich has an equivalent to the "Muggle" SS, I might just join them when I'm older.

Are you interested in girls yet?

    NEIN! They're icky!

Do you have many friends in your village? What are their names? What are they like?

I actually live in a tiny town - it's not a village. Anyway, I have plenty of friends, mostly in the Deutsches Jungvolk. On camping outings, Walter, Karl, Erick, and I like to go raid the girl's camp of the Jungmädel! It's almost like real war!

But my older brother, Hans (in the Hitler Youth) infiltrates their camp for a different reason. I don't really understand him when it comes to girls, but he's told me many times that everything would change a few years from now.

Do you have many friends at Durnstang?

I haven't gone there yet! How many times do I have to tell you?

When I make friends (which I will!) at Durmstrang, you'll be the first to know.

Who was your favorite teacher at your old school? At your new one?

My favourite teacher at "Muggle" school was Herr Beine, my physical education instructor. He makes us play all of these fun games to make us strong, healthy kids and ultimately adults in the future.

Once again, I don't have a favourite teacher at Durmstrang yet!

What do your parents think about you being a wizard?

My parents were initially shocked and skeptical (like I was), but they now are proud of me for being a wizard. They say that with magic, I will be able to do great things for the Reich.

Are you tempted to use magic outside of school? When would this be?

I don't understand this question. At Durmstrang, we are allowed to practise spells outside of school. Are you suggesting that there used to be some policy that said we couldn't? That sounds awfully unfair, if you ask me!

If that was the case, then Grindelwald must have changed it. I've heard that he's revolutionised the education system.

    ~ Dieter Heydrich

    PS: Remember the Gestapo, OliveOil_Med!

Ugghh... writing as Dieter freaks me out. Dieter will be at Durmstrang in the next set of answers, so you can freely ask him questions about the school.

    Heloooo Deiter, I am Nyk!

    I have a few questions.

Now that you are at Durmstrang, how do you feel no longer surounded by only the Aryan 'race'?

How do you feel about Grindelwand's anti-Muggle platform? That is your family he is trying to de-humanize. [I realise that really isn't a word but work with me!]

Have you made friends? Are they all considered Aryan?

What do you do in your spare time?

    Do you miss your family?

    That's all for now.

Note to author: He is very believable. It is hard not to get defensive, and I would have been considered Aryan[blond, blue-eyed, little-nose-ed] >.<

Spam: You should check out QWC we are touching on this subject ish! =]

"Das Zweite Zaberereich" Do you not think you are being rather hypocritical? You are part of a group that terrorises people soley because of backround, remember.

    What are your worst faults?

What is the worst thing you've ever done?

Do you get on with your parents?

Did you have any jewish friends before the Nazis came into power? Don't worry, I won't tell. You would have only been very little.

Greetings! Here's Dieter's next set of answers.

I've undoubtedly noticed that I have a somewhat different view on Grindelwald's ideology. In my imagination, he sees the world as looking a bit like this:

    *WIZARDS!* / Muggles...

Officially, the Zaubererreich doesn't care if you're Muggle-born. As long as you are capable of doing magic, you are on the same side. However, not everyone in the Zaubererreich agrees with that!

Also, Grindelwald fancies himself a philanthropist, and he is going to "help" the Muggles... with violence!

    Anyway, back to Dieter...

    Hello Nyk.

Nyk? That's a strange way to spell your name! Is that some weird wizarding thing?

Now that you are at Durmstrang, how do you feel no longer surounded by only the Aryan 'race'?

Why did you put race in quotation marks? Are you suggesting that it doesn't exist? Well, you're wrong!

It was a bit shocking when I purchased my wand from a wizard named Gregorovitch - he was a Slav! However, he spoke excellent German and didn't look very suspicious; I thought he was an Aryan until I heard his name.

Wait... he couldn't have been a Slav. His wands are too good. I'm confused.

At Durmstrang, well... there's an infestation of Slavs - Poles, Russians, Bulgars, everyone. Thankfully, good Aryans (mostly from the Reich, but also some Danes among others) make up a comfortable majority.

I had no idea that non-Aryan races had wizards too - even the Untermenschen! There's nothing I can do about that, but at Durmstrang, I will do my best to prove the greatness of the Aryan nation. I will study harder and be better than all of the sub-human students, and I will make my race proud.

How do you feel about Grindelwand's anti-Muggle platform? That is your family he is trying to de-humanize.

I don't know what you mean. The Zaubererreich is going to help the Muggles by saving them from themselves. It is "for the greater good." The adults and several students seem to say that a lot.

Have you made friends? Are they all considered Aryan?

Yes, I have made friends, and they are not "considered" Aryan. They are Aryan.

I have made friends with a boy named Ernst - he's "Muggle-born" too! Another boy I've befriended is Konrad, who is a full wizard and knows nothing about the Reich. I've been telling him all about the world I come from.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to play outside. However, a lot of my spare time recently has been spent reading the newspapers. On my first day at Durmstrang, I heard that the Reich had been attacked by Poland! Fortunately, my countrymen managed to beat back their cowardly assault, and we immediately retaliated with an attack of our own.

It's fascinating to read about the war from a magical perspective. The Zaubererreich said that there is no sense to the pointless Muggle bloodshed, and that they are dispatching wizards of the "ZVK" to the front in order to help end the war sooner.

    Do you miss your family?

Of course I do! Do you think I don't have feelings or anything?

    Now, for CakeorDeath's questions...

I like cake. Why would you threaten people with cake or death? It doesn't make much sense!

"Das Zweite Zaberereich" Do you not think you are being rather hypocritical? You are part of a group that terrorises people soley because of backround, remember.

I don't understand what you mean. Could you please explain your question better? Danke.

    What are your worst faults?

I don't know. I've never thought about that before. I'll get back to you about that.

What is the worst thing you've ever done?

I'll have to think about that. I've been a good boy.

Well... I've hit girls with snowballs. My parents don't like that, but my friends and my Deutsches Jungvolk leaders think it's funny.

Do you get on with your parents?

Of course I do! Are you suggesting I don't?

I love Vati and Mutti a lot.

Did you have any jewish friends before the Nazis came into power? Don't worry, I won't tell. You would have only been very little.

Nein. There used to be a small number of Jewish families in my town, but I never had much to do with them - they sort of kept to themselves, and we Aryans returned the favour.

I never knew much about them until I was about five, when I learned all about their lies and tricks.

Also, why did you phrase the National Socialists as having "come into power?" You make it sound like they took over the government - remember, they were elected by the German people.

    ~ Dieter Heydrich

Thus concludes another interview with this charming little Nazi. Any more questions for him?

    Tim the Enchanter

PS: Yes, the Nazis did say that the Poles invaded them first. That was their excuse to go to war.

Tim! I have been addicted to this thread. I read all fifty million posts at ONCE. I will blame you and your excellent Dieter when I fall asleep in Physics tomorrow. Sorry if you’ve answered any of these questions before- I just can’t remember it all!

Guten Abend Dieter! Was ist? Ich heisse Samantha Annale Barrington, U_A ist mein Autor. Ich habe viele frage für dich- du bist sehr...interessanten. Keine Angst (Ich bin keine sociopath ), lass uns die fragen genießen, ja?

But I think perhaps we ought to do the questions in English, for everyone else's sake. I should introduce myself more completely shouldn't I? I'm Samantha- I currently attend Hogwarts. I'm quite curious about you and your school. You see, I intern at my Ministry for Magic (in the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures), and I'm interested in how our governments differ as well.

But I'll start off with some easy questions first.

Do you want to join one of the quidditch club teams when you are older? Which one?

What do you think about Hogwarts?

I noticed you said Paul’s love of dragons may be rubbing off on you. What is it you like about them?

You said there are Erklings in the forest near Durmstrang? Have there ever been any problems with them?

With the British system at Hogwarts, we take exams called OWLs in year five, then advance on to NEWTs in year seven. Is the Durmstrang system similar?

Now for a tougher one. Dieter, I have the ability to change into any animal at will. However, when I feel very strong emotions, I cannot control this- the emotions overcome me and I transform. Its is a part of me, a part of my blood. But, I am a gifted witch. I think, I breathe, I feel, I love- do you consider me human? Or does this make me an animal like the untermenschen? (If you are confused you can read about her here)

If you could bestow magic powers upon one of you siblings, which would you choose? Why?

Let us say you and your brother Hans are trapped in a very serious situation. You have a choice- either you can walk away unscathed and Hans will die, or you can choose to die in his place, and he may walk away free. Which would you choose? (just curious how selfless he is…or isn’t.)

You say you are not interested in girls, but I believe one day you will be. Do you believe in true love? The idea of a soul mate?

If I can think of more that haven’t been asked, I will be back later!
    Tschüs!

Hello everyone! Sorry it took me so long to get around to answering these questions, but there's been a lot of them, if you didn't notice...

    Now, over to Dieter!

Hello Molly. Interesting comment by Nate...

Well, you should tell him that I, unfortunately, can't get to Nate, because the Atlantic Ocean is in the way! My author has to write me over onto Nate's thread, and Tim won't do that since he doesn't trust me. I could go myself, but I can't afford passage on a ship to get over to Nate's thread, plus the Royal Navy will get in the way.

So, Nate, you better consider yourself fortunate.

    Piranha troops...

    Now, on to Molly's questions,

Are you going to try out for one of the Quiditch clubs when you are old enough?

Probably, but it depends. I'll first have to become an good Beater first, which I am currently not. I'll also need a better broom than the Volksbesen '33s that we currently ride, like a Speer 130 or a Zephyr.

What is the name of the wizarding newspaper in Germany? Do they ever report on the Muggle war going on? It must effect people somewhat.

Our newspaper is called Der tägliche Kurier, or "The Daily Messenger." They only briefly mention the Muggle war, and always say how pointless and stupid it is, and point to it as proof that the Muggles can't take care of themselves.

If they only knew the whole story!

Have any officals from the wizarding government ever come to your school to speak at an assembly or anything?

Well, the Headmaster is a representative of Das Zweite Zaubererreich. We see him almost every day at meals.

As for non-educational officers, the answer is no.

Do you have any clubs beside the Quidditch one? A dueling club maybe?

There are plenty of clubs, like ones for Wizard Chess, art, Duelling (yes, Durmstrang has one), and that sort of thing. However, first years are discouraged from joining any clubs, since they want us to adjust to Durmstrang and our classes first.

Well, I'm pretty sure now that you're a wizard, you won't be allowed to join the Nazi Army now. There are laws against that kind of thing. What do you think you want to do when you grow up now?

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO KEEP TELLING YOU PEOPLE? The term is NATIONAL SOCIALIST, not "Nazi!"

And it's not called the "Nazi Army," either. It's just the Wehrmacht. And besides, I never said I wanted to join the Army. I said I'd like to be in the Schutzstaffel.

But to answer your question, Grindelwald will probably reveal the wizarding world to the Muggles by the time I am old enough to have a job as an adult, so magic secrecy laws won't matter anymore.

How many German wizarding children go to Durmstrang? Where do the rest of them go to school?

As of 1933, ALL German wizarding children go to Durmstrang. In my year, there's about forty or so of us, out of a class size in the mid sixties to seventy. Therefore, Aryans make up around two-thirds of the school population.

But of course, there's going to be a dramatic demographic shift after 1945, when Durmstrang finds itself in Poland.

    Now, for Inverarity's question.

By now you have probably learned that there are intelligent, non-human races, such as goblins, elves, merpeople, and centaurs. Where do you think they fit on your "untermenschen-Aryan" scale? Do they have souls? Are they equal to or inferior to you? How about relative to untermenschen? Would you be interested in talking to a goblin or a centaur?

Well, I've never met any elves, merpeople, or centaurs - I just know that they exist. However, I have met goblins at the bank when I was exchanging Reichmarks for gold wizarding coins, and I didn't really like them. They seem to me like the wizarding world's version of Jews. They're thieving, greedy, filthy little creatures, and some of them even look Jewish, with big hooked noses and tiny, beady eyes. And why are they allowed to control the Zaubererreich's finances? Sounds like a mistake, if you ask me - we ought to get rid of them.

But to answer your question about souls (why are all you people so interested in that, by the way?)... well, none of those creatures are human, are they? They're not even sub-human, so I suppose that answers your question!

And good day to you too, Samantha Annale Barrington.

Do you want to join one of the quidditch club teams when you are older? Which one?

As I mentioned before, most likely yes. Concerning which one... maybe the Wolfhounds, perhaps? Or maybe I'll form my own team, and I'll call it "Das Reich"!

What do you think about Hogwarts?

Well, I know it's a British school of magic in Scotland, but apart from that, I don't know much about it. Sorry.

I noticed you said Paul’s love of dragons may be rubbing off on you. What is it you like about them?

Probably the fact that they can BREATH FIRE!

You said there are Erklings in the forest near Durmstrang? Have there ever been any problems with them?

Nein, or at least no problems recently. All Durmstrang students are taught how to defend themselves against Erklings, first thing in Defensive Magic class. Professor Schmidt told us a story about how he killed one when he was a child by bludgeoning it on the head with a collapsible cauldron - they're not very hard to dispatch, but they're very sneaky and can catch you unawares if you're not careful.

With the British system at Hogwarts, we take exams called OWLs in year five, then advance on to NEWTs in year seven. Is the Durmstrang system similar?

We do have two different higher-level tests, called Z.A.G.s in fifth year and U.T.Z.s in our seventh.

Here's a very useful site of various Harry Potter terms and names in different languages.

    Well, are you Aryan?

If you could bestow magic powers upon one of you siblings, which would you choose? Why?

I feel I don't have an answer to this question, since I wouldn't want to make any such decision. Sounds too much like I'm assuming the role of God - plus, I don't want to favour one of my siblings at the expense of the others.

Let us say you and your brother Hans are trapped in a very serious situation. You have a choice- either you can walk away unscathed and Hans will die, or you can choose to die in his place, and he may walk away free. Which would you choose? (just curious how selfless he is…or isn’t.)

Well, I'll try to save the two of us - what's preventing me, aside from you saying so? It's not like God is saying, "ONLY ONE OF YOU CAN LIVE," or anything like that.

You say you are not interested in girls, but I believe one day you will be. Do you believe in true love? The idea of a soul mate?

I suppose. I mean, my parents obviously love each other, but true love is not something I think about.

    ~ Dieter Heydrich

Wow, Tim, I think you might have the first OC thread that ever had to be locked because it exceeded the post limit? It is starting to look that way. And Dieter, you seem to really be becoming famous.

And Tim, stop making Dieter look like a wuss and let him fight Nate in his thread. It might even do Nate some good to learn some humility. He's been marching around for days in the dictionary definition of machismo. What is it about that last teenage burst of testosterone that turns boys into subhuman ape creatures only interested in fighting?

    Anyway, questions:

You have some very strong opinions about the Jews, and the Slavs, and so on. What about the crippled? Where do the sit in your ideology?

What are all the magical creatures you have seen so far? Tell us about them.

What do you know about the wizarding schools in Spain and Portugal?

What are the names of some professional Quidditch teams in Germany? Do you think you would ever like to be a professional Quidditch player?

You know, at Hogwarts, they have a special quill that writes down the name of any wizarding child born in the U.K. I'm sure Germany has one too. Would you ever be tempted to check it out to see if any of your younger brothers and sisters are wizards? (P.S. According to the genetics of wizarding blood, all of your brothers and sisters have a one in four chance in having magic.)

Did you know that some wizards are not fully human? Some are half-veela, half-giant, and all kinds of things? Have you ever met one? Are they entitled to the same rights as you are as a wizard?

At the American school I told you about, the Hardscrabble Creek School of Magical Arts, they have a class called Shamanism. Something they do for the older students is they take them out into the wilderness in the middle of January, and they wander around with only what they can strap to their backs. And they aren't allowed to go back to the nice warm school until they have a life-altering epiphany. Do you think you could handle something like that? What kind of epiphany would you want to have?

A lot of countries that were colonized by European countries were influence in their wizarding communities. What countries did Germany used to rule over? How do you think Germany influenced their wizarding communities?

Well, I believe the post limit is 183 (that's how many posts the two obsolete NaNoWriMo threads have), so if that's the case, Dieter still has another hundred posts to go, but it'll happen eventually!

Dieter is just as eager for a scrap as Nate, but he knows that I won't let him. But, if you insist...

    Well, on to Dieter's interview!

You have some very strong opinions about the Jews, and the Slavs, and so on. What about the crippled? Where do the sit in your ideology?

Well, unless you're are talking about wounded war veterans, there's something genetically wrong with natural born cripples and retards, and that's no good for the health of the Volk. They're just as corrupting as Untermenschen!

What are all the magical creatures you have seen so far? Tell us about them.

Well, in my Defensive Magic class, I've seen an Erkling, but not on the grounds yet (that's a good thing!). It's an ugly little thing, and we learned how to fend them off.

I've seen Hippogriffs (winged horses with the front half of an eagle) flying around every so often and I glimpsed a unicorn on my first day on the way up to the castle. I have yet to see a griffin, but they live high up in the mountains and generally stay away from the castle anyway.

Remember that ban on bringing dragons to school as pets? Well, the student who got in trouble for doing so back in the Middle Ages let his "pet" dragon loose in the mountains rather than let his professors confiscate it - it's descendants supposedly live on the grounds. It's probably just a school legend since no professor since... well, the Middle Ages has seen a dragon loose at Durmstrang, but every now and then some students claim to have seen a dragon.

What do you know about the wizarding schools in Spain and Portugal?

Almost nothing. Why do you ask?

What are the names of some professional Quidditch teams in Germany? Do you think you would ever like to be a professional Quidditch player?

I've heard about teams like the Heidelberg Harriers, the Dortmund Dragon-Lancers, and the Tempests, but I don't know much about them, not having grown up with Quidditch like many of my classmates.

But to play Quidditch professionally... I've never thought of that before. I'll have to get a lot better at the sport if I want to do that, though. However, playing Quidditch doesn't sound very productive - how am I contributing to the nation that way?

You know, at Hogwarts, they have a special quill that writes down the name of any wizarding child born in the U.K. I'm sure Germany has one too. Would you ever be tempted to check it out to see if any of your younger brothers and sisters are wizards? (P.S. According to the genetics of wizarding blood, all of your brothers and sisters have a one in four chance in having magic.)

No I wouldn't, and I'd rather find out when they turn eleven. If I saw such a list, I would not like keeping the information a secret (sounds like too much of a burden), and I wouldn't want to break the news either, making some of my siblings ecstatic and others deeply disappointed. So I'd rather not know.

Did you know that some wizards are not fully human? Some are half-veela, half-giant, and all kinds of things? Have you ever met one? Are they entitled to the same rights as you are as a wizard?

I'm no expert on the laws of the Zaubererreich, so I don't know what their legal status is. However, the idea of humans and non-humans mating sounds revolting! I mean, at least Untermenschen are sub-human, but something like a GIANT?

By the way, what's a Veela?

At the American school I told you about, the Hardscrabble Creek School of Magical Arts, they have a class called Shamanism. Something they do for the older students is they take them out into the wilderness in the middle of January, and they wander around with only what they can strap to their backs. And they aren't allowed to go back to the nice warm school until they have a life-altering epiphany. Do you think you could handle something like that? What kind of epiphany would you want to have?

Well, going out into the cold is not new to me - I've done it plenty of times in the Deutsches Jungvolk, so I know how to take care of myself in the wilderness. It's uncomfortable and I don't like doing it, but I believe that I'll have a big advantage over other students in such a situation.

Concerning epiphanies... well, it's not like you can choose your life-altering experience! Hoping for a certain type of epiphany kind of defeats the purpose of it.

A lot of countries that were colonized by European countries were influence in their wizarding communities. What countries did Germany used to rule over? How do you think Germany influenced their wizarding communities?

Well, in the days of the Second Reich, before the Versailles Treaty, we used to have a colony each in West, Southwest, and East Africa. On the other side of the world, the German Empire also owned part of the island of New Guinea, some other islands in the pacific, and a city or two in China.

Concerning influence, I'd imagine that people there would understand German, but maybe not anymore, since either the British or the French have been in charge of our old colonies after the Great War. They might also have a few customs borrowed from us in addition to our language, but I really don't know.

Thanks for the questions, Molly! Anyone else want to have a go with Dieter here?
