I think Hufflepuff as well. He wasn't overly cunning, although neither were Crabbe and Goyal. But I just think Hufflepuff because I can't see Dudley fitting the mold for any of the other houses.

    And MOST DEFINANTLY NOT Ravenclaw!

Hi, I'm writing a fic on Dudley's children, and I was wondering what sort of father you think Dudley would make?

I've given him a job as a bank manager, by the way.

Dudley certainly matured by the end of DH and became a nicer and more courteous person than Vernon, but I have a feeling that some of his habits as a father would be similar to his dad's. For instance, I think Dudley would probably spoil his children and give them whatever they wanted, and he probably won't be a very demanding father. So, I imagine Dudley to raise his children in a manner similar to how he was raised, just minus the nasty attitude towards anything unfamiliar - he only concerns himself with the happiness of his children, and would spend lots of money to help achieve that end.

I agree with Tim. We got to see a nicer side of "Ickle Dudders" in DH. Porbably he would remain that way till the end. He would probably be a lot nicer to any witch or wizard than his father. Are the kids wizards? If so, Dudley wouold probably not be as harsh to them as his father was to Harry. After all, Dudley believed that wizards could be good-- as we know, he acknowledges and appreciates the fact that Harry, a wizard, had saved him from Dementors. So yeah, he would probably accept the fact about his kids, though maybe a bit reluctantly.

As for other things, maybe he'd be the same as Uncle Vernon- spoiling his kids. He would give them everything they wanted, just like he had gotten. He would ignore fault of his kids.

    Hope that helped!

I think I read somewhere that Jo considered having Dudley in the epilogue, escorting his child to catch the train to Hogwarts. However, she decided that Uncle Vernon's genes were too Muggle to allow any magical grandkids.

What do you all see a possible future career for Dudley? He never struck me as the type who would be smart enough to attend university?
I've long envisioned Dudders going on to join the Metro Police Service and working his way up to Detective Inspector.

As far as where he lives, do you think he stayed close to home, or moved further away?
I imagine he'd move into a London flat to be close to work, but he'd visit his parents quite regularly. I don't see a schism developing between he and Vernon, but I think he'd come to accept that while he loves the man, his father has his own deep flaws.

What kind of woman do you think Dudley would marry? What would Vernon and Petunia think of her?
Dudley's beginning a long period of transition when we leave him at the beginning of Deathly Hallows. The girl he marries is going to be someone who helps him through the most difficult times of that change.

How do think Dudley's attitude towards magic as an adult would differ towards the one he held as a child?
I don't think he'd pay it any mind unless it came to his doorstep. He knows it exists, and if he saw it, he'd be better equipped to deal with it than your average Muggle. He wouldn't pretend it wasn't real, but I don't see him seeking it out.

What do [you] think Dudley and Harry's relationship was like as adults? I know they stayed in touch, but did they do so out of some sort of obligation or because they actually wanted to?
Once Dudley was out of his parents' house, I think he'd see what a git he'd been to Harry, and I think he'd want to make some kind of amends. Probably not an apology, but at least an acknowledgement. And I think that Harry would understand that Dudley's attitudes were mostly a function of Vernon's. Once Dudley admitted to his transgressions, I don't think Harry would hold them against him. I doubt they'd head out to the pub for firewhiskey every Friday, but I can see them getting together for their own birthdays, wedding anniversaries, their childrens' birthdays, and holidays.

A dozen times a year doesn't seem out of the question to me.

How do you think their wives got along? Their children?
If Dudley married the type of girl I think he would, I imagine that she and Ginny would get along quite well. They both helped their husband's through difficult times, and think they'd see that in each other.

And considering what Dudley and Harry have both gone through as far as dealing with entrenched prejudices (shedding them for Dudley, facing them for Harry), they'd both be conscious of not instilling too much bias in their children. I think the Potter kids and the Dursley kids would get along as well as any second-cousins.

Something probably similar to what Vernon did, maybe a bit more on the wild side. Some sort of desk job where he can be in charge. Of course, Dudley could go on and do something adventurous. I like anthonyjfuchs idea of Dudley becoming a detective!

As far as where he lives, do you think he stayed close to home, or moved further away?

I don't think Dudley is the type to live in a remote area. No, I think a nice suburb with fancy cars would suit him.

What kind of woman do you think Dudley would marry? What would Vernon and Petunia think of her?

Dudley seems the type who would want a pretty girl but isn't good enough to get her. Therefore, I think he would marry a girl who is nice, but can stand up to Dudley. And, of course, Petunia and Vernon would love any sensible, normal girl who Dudley likes.

How do think Dudley's attitude towards magic as an adult would differ towards the one he held as a child?

I think that he would acknowledge magic being in the world, but would try not to think about it as, ever since he got a pig's tail, he's been a teensy bit scared of magic.

What do [you] think Dudley and Harry's relationship was like as adults? I know they stayed in touch, but did they do so out of some sort of obligation or because they actually wanted to?

In Deathly Hallows when the Dursleys are being taken to safety, Dudley shows a little kindness to Harry. After the war, I think that they would have remained acquaintances, perhaps getting a little more friendly over the years. They wouldn't just drop in at each others houses' randomly, but would visit on occasion, like at Christmas, a couple times a year.

How do you think their wives got along? Their children?

Since, I imagine that Dudley's wife would be able to stand up to him, and be a little outgoing, I think that she and Ginny (presuming to go with canon) would get along. Both of their husbands are stubborn, although in different ways, and I think that they would relate to each other. The relationships of their children are a bit iffy, though. It would depend on how they were raised, personalities, etc. Given that Harry's kids will probably be like pranksters, Dudley's kids may not get along with them because they might have pranks being thrown on them left and right. But, that has many different factors, and could go either way.

    Hope this helps!

I agree to some point with Tim. Dudley would probably spoil his children to keep them happy, such as he was by his own parents. But I think, with how PurpleTree imagines him loving his children and wanting to make amends with Harry about how they were as kids, Dudley would probably want to spoil them the right amount. I don't think he would want his kids to be bullies like he was... Also, I think in some way, Dudley might end up with a witch in the end. He might not realise she is one when they first start going out, but if he likes her enough, he'll deal with it.

This is just my thoughts, seeing as I'm planning on having Dudley and a major HP character get together in ACLS... >.<

I'm writing a story about Dandelion Dursley, Dudley Dursley's granddaughter. I'd like some help shaping Dudley's character. He's somewhat important to the story, especially in the first couple of chapters, because he is raising her.

Poor Dudley has had a rough time of it. When his family is in hiding from Voldemort, a Muggle girl who he got pregnant manages to track him down and dump their baby daughter with him. He raises the baby girl and later, when his daughter is a teenager, she gets pregnant. After giving birth, she runs away from home, leaving her child with Dudley. He was not an ideal parent the first time around, with his daughter, but he's learned some lessons. He loves is granddaughter and generally does an alright job of raising her.

My question is this: How exactly will Dudley react when he realizes that Dandelion, his granddaughter, is a witch? He grew up in a house where magic was hated, and had some bad experiences with it. Will he try to squash his granddaughter's magic, like his parents did Harry's? (Of course, any efforts to quash his granddaughter's magic would be less extreme than the measures taken by Petunia and Vernon, because unlike them, he cares about Dandelion.) Will he pretend like he doesn't notice his granddaughter's magical abilities, thinking that if he doesn't acknowledge it, it won't exist? Or will he share what knowledge of magic he has with his granddaughter, trying to help her understand the strange things that happen to her?

I could even imagine having him try and contact Harry to help him with Dandelion, having him explain things to her etc. I think that Dudley realised somewhat that wizards aren't all freaks so I don't really see him trying to squash the magic out of his granddaughter.

    Hope that helped a little.
