    On the bogey man note, I didn't hear the term until I was in my teens, and that was - I believe - as a result of watching American movies, rather than observations from my own culture. That is not, of course, to say that the term is necessarily an americanism, merely that I didn't hear it used in context here.

    Yeah, it was originally derived from America, and I don't think it arived until the late seventies. It certainly sounds American, and, from my experiance, I have only ever seen American authors use it in HP FF.
