    Ancient Runes

Does anyone know what Ancient Rune actually is? I have a list of the runes from 0-9 (link) but I don't know what they do. I'm writing a fic where the students do an Ancient Runes project so it's really important I get it right.

    Thank you for any help!

    Hi twin,

It's so rare that I come upon a fresh thread here, so I'll take this opportunity to post what little I know.

    Cool sites, Lindsay!

'runes' : old Germanic alphabet character: a character in any of several ancient Germanic alphabets used from about the 3rd to the 13th centuries. The earliest Anglo-Saxon texts and inscriptions were written in runes.

I also think it is the collective name for really old alphabets and attempts of our fore-fore-forebears at communication and/or art. The Eskimos have runes, too, and so do Filipinos.

And of course, runes are also believed to be magical symbols or spells in themselves, either singly or plurally, powerful inscriptions or incantations. Look at the Pensieve.

To read runes is to interpret/know magic. To handle/cast/inscribe runes can be consequential/dangerous.

    Ooh. My ideas.

I would imagine that a rune could be inactive until something triggers it as well. Stray magic, death, or perhaps blood.
