Eileen used a quill and ink, though it seemed peculiar to use her beloved writing tools on the odd, non-moving cards. She carefully checked off each name on the small list he had given her to insure that no one was forgotten.

The shabby house was decorated sparingly. There was no telling whether he would come and praise her efforts, or rip them down in a rage.

The baby kicked in an almost fretful manner, and Eileen anxiously moved her hand over her swollen belly. This Christmas there was only one thing that she wanted.

Please, let this baby live.

A tapping on the kitchen window startled Audrey from her dish-washing. An owl was impatiently letting her know of its presence. Sliding the window open, she let it inside while she dislodged the envelope tied to its leg.

Percy walked into the room carrying the newspaper, but the sight of new mail piqued his interest. “What is that, dear?”

Inspecting it, Audrey said, “A Christmas card from one of your brothers.”

Instead of the happiness she’d expected, Percy scowled. “Which brother?”

“George…” she offered hesitantly. “Why?”

Percy drew his wand and said, “Just have to be prepared. Go for it.”

Augusta Longbottom did not send out Christmas cards. It was simply impractical to spend hours searching for an acceptable photograph of her and her grandson and then spend days trying to remember the addresses of every single bloody person she had ever met.

There was one Christmas card she kept tacked on the wall during the holiday season. Her son and his wife, cradling their newborn baby, waved and smiled at her for the month of December, as though nothing had changed. It was the one time of year Augusta became sentimental enough to remember what she had lost forever.

Pantomime

I appreciate not all of you understand this British tradition. Basically it's a special Christmas play based on a fairy story. The leading man will be played by a woman, and there are always men in drag playing genies, or ugly sisters, or Stepmothers ....

Hugo smirked, looking himself up and down in the mirror, before saying sadly, “But I won’t tell him. And the panto starts in three minutes, we can’t discuss--”

“Yes, we can,” Scorpius interrupted. “If it’s all right at Christmas, why not the rest of the year? He’s your father, he’ll love you anyway.”

“I wish I was so sure,” Hugo said, staring at his stilettos. “But I’m not, so I won’t tell him. And I don’t want to talk about it.”

As they wrangled the children into the theatre seats, Ron looked about to see if there were any indication as to what was going on, but to no avail. However, before he could investigate further, the show started.

He felt a gentle tug on his sleeve, and Rose was looking up at him curiously. “Daddy, that lady on the stage looks like Uncle Harry.”

Ron snorted. She took the words right out of his mouth.
