Of all days, it had to be today. For once, Harry had planned a superb party for their wedding anniversary coupled with some tennis games just to make up to her.

It had been wonderful until the dreaded rain arrived. Ginny silently wondered if this was a sign that her marriage was failing lately- the cycles of fights, the refusal to share a bed together and the endless arguing.

Maybe this was a sign. A really bad one. Ginny sighed forlornly.

Rain or no rain. She still has to go down and face her husband all the same.

Oh bother.

The next morning, despite the lack of his parents’ mind-melting huffing and puffing, James found himself up at dawn, unable to get back to sleep. When the ceiling lost its visual appeal, he left his bed in favour of the window overlooking the tennis courts.

He watched the clouds froth for a while before he noticed a giggling young couple in their tennis whites, paying more attention to each other than the game they eventually started.

Soon, a crack of thunder sounded, followed by an abrupt downpour. As they ran for cover, James chortled and went back to bed. Prats.

Harry glanced up at Mr. Weasley and blinked.

“Oh – all white. You look like a tennis player.”

“Tennis? What’s that?” Mr. Weasley asked.

“Er...” Harry said absentmindedly, turning as his wife entered the room.

“Ready to go?” she asked, her attention drawn towards her father. She looked like she was about to say something, but then thought better of it.

Hermione followed after Ginny, ruffling through her bag.

“Ready?” she asked. She looked up, her eyes widening slightly at Mr. Weasley’s appearance.

“Mr. Weasley, you look like a tennis player,” she said.

There was a quiet strength to her as she held her sobbing mother in her arms. A slight defiant tilt to her chin.

It was time to light the pyre, a duty that traditionally belonged to the eldest son. Due to the lack of males in her family, the responsibility fell to a distant cousin. Padma felt a deep-seated rage, a certain loathing towards this stranger who had played almost no part in her sister’s life and yet was the one honouring her death. Once more she cursed her ancestors, for failing to give her even this kind of closure.

A/N: Just trying to get the muses going on my WIP... sigh.

The Dragon Pearl did not have uniforms, only a dress code: dark colors in the fall and winter and light colors in the spring and summer. Today was the first day of the spring term, and everyone was supposed to change from winter colors to spring.

Feng pulled out her favorite cheong sam, the first one she had worn at Zhu-ge Liang’s house, the white one with phoenixes and put it on. She examined her reflection carefully. She still didn’t see the resemblance and she really shouldn’t be picking a fight with the Phoenix Clan but... she shrugged and left.

I have been told that the proper term for the lace on the collar of her white gown is actually not ‘lace’, but ‘embroidered cotton eyelet’. I have also been told that it is difficult to keep clean because the shiny thread binding the edges of the punched-out spaces is prone to holding stains.

Mum constantly strokes her fingers across that lace collar. Gran sees the traces of skin oil building up, turning the fabric some colour other than saint-bright white, and this worries her. But mum is content, smoothing the gown over her bones- almost like she feels pretty.
