Not a question. Opened this post in error.

Thank you for stepping up! I'm sorry, my internet has been sketchy and I missed this discussion completely!

Hi, Ali. I was experiencing the same phenomenon for a while recently, although it seems to have died away. The only way I could escape the intrusive, screen-covering ads was to go completely out of the Mugglenet site, or even completely out of my browser, and come back in again.

I described the phenomenon to my daughter, who is a computer engineer, and she said that the Mugglenet site is hosted on a server (which belongs to somebody else), and that the server makes money by selling ad placements to various companies such as Comcast or Xfinity (the usual offenders, in this problem we were experiencing). These ads are supposed to appear only in their designated boxes on the site, the boxes where we usually see them, but the software can go rogue (a "rogue gif", she calls it) and plaster the ad all over our screen, either because there is a "bug" in the software that places the ads (a common problem; much software is full of errors) or because somebody did it deliberately. In either case, it's illegal, a violation of the contract between Mugglenet and the server company, and the folks at the server company are supposed to correct it when it is brought to their attention.

I suppose that the problem has been brought to their attention, because it seems to have stopped. My daughter asked me to show her the screen if it happens again, because she is able to tell if the problem is what I just described, or a virus in the "middleware" (whatever that is), but luckily it is no longer occurring.

    Hello,

I have recently begun trying to read some of the fanfiction on MNFF again, but everytime I try to click onto a story or a new page, an ad pops up and the rest of the page does not load. I have tried reading on multiple devices and the outcome is the same each time. Is there something that I can try so I can begin enjoying the stories again? It is beginning to become frustrating.

    Thank you - Ali

Greetings mods. I was so excited to see a new review for an old fic when I popped back around tonight after being away a while (full time job has killed my online life), but then discovered it was a bizarre post having nothing to do with fanfic at all. ??? Spam? Not sure, but I was hoping one of you might be able to Vanish it when you get a chance. Thanks.

In that case I'll just look at last year's challenge (The Great Hall/The Archive of Scrolls/Let The Yule Tide Roll) and write something for the archives, even though it won't be judged or gain points. Merry Christmas, all!

The mod group determined a while ago that, due to low participation in challenges, that each challenge forum would only hold one challenge per term. As there is currently the Terrible Two-Shot Challenge going on right now, there will likely not be a Christmas-themed challenge.

Is there going to be a holiday challenge this year?

The general rule is that if there are changes to and/or additions to a previously approved chapter that amount to 10% or more of the total word count of said chapter, then it's best to resubmit. However, if you already have a significant number of reads or reviews already, then you can email me the alterations you want to make and edit after. If it's the latter, the next chapter you submit, it would help your readers to leave a note telling them that the previous chapter was altered and a summary of whatever important changes were made.

What is your policy on major additions to a chapter that has already been approved? I realized after I submitted my chapter 3 that I was going to add more to it. I decided not to delete my submission of the chapter, so it could stay in the queue, and with the technical difficulties you guys have been having, I thought I could get my edit up before my chapter was approved, but you just approved it today. Since it's a major edit, do I need to send you the addition to the chapter before I edit it into the chapter, or would you prefer me to just re-submit the entire chapter.

Thanks for all the hard work you do here.
